This is a dream-come-true-read for every kid amused by farts, butts, and poop. But that is not all, this is an extremely engaging book when it comes to scientific facts regarding animals and their behavior, habitat, and anatomy. The author has managed to create narratives using clever vocabulary and entertaining language and facts. From farts that help move and communicate, and butts that function like gills or shields, and those that shoot poop, poison, sand, and even guts, to behinds that are ...more

This book is packed full of butts, farts and weird animal poop so, of course, your kids will love it. Not even halfway through the welcome page, my kids and I were giggling up a storm. We loved the humor intermingled with surprising facts about ten animals and their "terrific tushies". The rating system was a perfect addition and we all loved reading about the animals and debating on what rating each one deserved. In the end, for this house, the Bombardier Beetle reigned supreme. Though I'm not ...more
What an absolutely fascinating read! This book was so interesting and fun. I love the author's approach, inviting us to view the 'contestants' and choose the winner (crown the "king of keisters"). I had a hard time choosing, but I know kids will love this idea, knowing that their choice will be the right one, depending upon what they feel is the most important aspect of each animal. Each of the animals chosen has a unique story and made me say, "who knew?!" There is the added element of humorous ...more
If you are thinking of “fart-swimming,” here’s a fun fact—it does NOT work for humans, but manatees are great at it! Yes, it’s true some butts are used for swimming, breathing, eating, talking and even killing! The Battle of the Butts lines up a great list of contenders vying for most interesting butt. Which animal will you choose as winner of this delightfully strange book about animals with special butts? I’m an adult and I thoroughly enjoyed this book—can’t wait to read it to the grandson. BATTLE OF THE BUTTS is for every kid who bends over laughing when someone farts or mentions the words "butt" or "poop". That would be just about every kid (and some adults), right? Filled with fun, scientific facts about specific animals and the behavior of their posteriors, Rish has created an amazing STEM book that explores the valuable role butts, poop, and farts play in the lives of ten animals. From farts that propel animals forward to butts that release not only poop but sand, poison, and ...more
This fact-filled book shows some of the more abnormal things animal behinds can do, from the obvious discarding of waste, to allowing manatees to submerge in the water, acting as shields, defensive techniques, communication, food intake, and even shelter! It was very informative without crossing the line to completely disgusting. The child is invited to rate each animal as “boring backside”, “passable posterior”, “cool caboose”, “remarkable rump”, or “terrific tushie”. The clear, simple illustra ...more
To my family of little boys, this book is a winner in every way that counts. I mean honestly—how can you lose with subjects like manatee farts and wombat poop-cubes? The illustrations are disgustingly cute, if such a thing were possible, and the language is equal parts scientific and conversational (“Have you ever farted on someone like your sister, brother, or best friend? Sure it’s gross but at least it’s not dangerous, like if a beaded lacewing did it…because their farts kill!”). Best of all ...more
Nonfiction with humor? You bet! This book is informative and funny. Kids are going to love the toot and booty animal facts. This is a STEM book at its finest! My favorite line - "If you breathe through your butt, is that a sneeze or a f@rt?" It really made me think! Author Jocelyn Rish includes a hilarious rating system for each set of facts, and illustrator David Creighton-Pester's colorful illustrations complement the text with added humor and bright, kid-friendly images. Thanks to RP Kids for ...more

Omg, I adored this book! It is filled to the brim with fascinating facts and I can honestly say that I did not know a single one of them before reading this. It is seriously interesting! Who knew butts, farts, and poop could be put to use in so many, er, creative and important ways? Definitely not me. Every kid who loves animal facts and laughing about butts is going to adore this one. (In other words, every kid!)
"Nature clearly has a sense of humor," Jocelyn Rish writes in this book's hilarious closing. And Rish obviously does too! This book is funny, but it doesn't skimp on the science either. It details 10 animal adaptations (related to butts!) that help animals on land, air, and sea survive. This book would be an ideal addition to classrooms when exploring animal adaptation and great way to get kids excited about biology and STEM! ...more
This book is both funny and educational. Kids will love the focus on butts, farts, and poop from animals around the world (Australian animals representing strong!). From animals breathing through their behinds to cube shaped poop, you'll learn lots of interesting things from this book! The playful, conversational text engages readers and I love the interactive question at the end inviting readers to vote on the winner of the battle of the butts. You'll never look at manatees the same way again! ...more
This is not your grandmother's non-fiction book. Kids will absolutely love reading about all the amazing animal butts and what they do. Did you ever think an animal would breathe through its butt? Or use its butt as a shield? Shoot chemicals out of their butts? And when you see a manatee swimming in a river...well, you'll just have to read this amazing but true (and often hilarious) book to find out about that manatee. I highly recommend this well researched, well written, and funny book! ...more

Have you ever wondered how manatees use their super-powered farts to move? And I'm sure you've wondered how wombats manage to multitask by using their butts both as a weapon and a shield? Have you heard of the great farting communicator, the herring? And what about the glorious bombardier beetle's caboose? If you ask me, I wouldn't want to mess with the bombardier beetle's rear end--just saying! BATTLE OF THE BUTTS is nonfiction at its best!
