Who wouldn't want to be swept away from their safe, little life to an enchanted world full of magic? And of course, be given the opportunity to save the world from enemies and strife.
If your answer is 'count me in', then Greenhaelen is for you.
Debut author L.A. Webster has woven a classic portal fantasy in the Tales of Algarth Book 1, that works on so many levels.
The story telling style is unique and has a lyrical rhythm and cadence.
The reader follows an eclectic cast as they take on friends,

Greenhaelan is an adventurous debut with a unique world and magic system that is sure to be a hit with Fantasy readers. The main character of the story is 26-year old gardener Sara Martin (although she reads much older than 26), who finds herself mysteriously transported to a new world called Algarth. After making friends and learning the language, she discovers almost everyone who lives in Algarth has a skal, which is magic that manifests in them at a certain age, giving them different abilitie ...more

Greenhaelen was a gripping and self-assured novel from start to finish. Lyn Webster's descriptions are truly magical - her love of plants shines through - and her world-building is top-notch. She weaves plot twists through the story so well you never see them coming and i couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next book. ...more

Caught up in a parallel universe, Sara Martin struggles to make sense of the strange new world she finds herself in. This strange, beautiful place called Algarth, is reminiscent of Medieval times but is unlike anything Sara has heard of in the history books.

Constantly on the run from both real and supernatural forces, Sara finds her tribe in an unusual band of outlaws. Fleeing from evil overlord Villembelt Tarn, the misunderstood gang are on a mission to save Algath from the terrible Blight that

Quick disclaimer: L. A. Webster is a friend from the #6amAusWriters group on Twitter, and I received an ARC for free. I promise that neither of those facts have affected my review, though.

Greenhaelen has a beautiful lyrical narrative style. I want to say it feels a bit like an older style fantasy novel, even though I’m not quite sure how to explain what I mean by that. It eases you in gently, lets you get to know the chara

This story is one of epic adventures and self discovery. Whisked to a faraway land where an ecological disaster of a magical persuasion plagues its people, Sara Martin takes up the cause to heal the land. Her own story intermingles with that of the blight, and in healing it she heals some part of herself. An uplifting read, even in the moments where almost everything was lost.

With an intricate plot, exquisite descriptions of people and place, and strong connections to climate change and the devastation that could befall our own earth, Greenhaelen is a sweeping fantasy, by debut author L.A Webster. If you enjoy immersing yourself in another world, filled with colourful descriptions and characters, you'll love this book. The story winds itself between points of view, with the lovely Sara Martin, being the central character. Previously someone who was mostly alone in th ...more

I was absolutely captivated from the beginning. A story started by a person who was different, going through a real experience that suddenly becomes other. In other words this is a fabulous, fast paced, intricately plotted, page turning, adventure and personality driven experience. More please.

Hi! I’m author L.A. Webster, but you can call me Lyn.
I write speculative fiction, mainly adult fantasy.
In 2020 I published my debut novel, a portal fantasy entitled Greenhaelan (Chronicles of Algarth #1).

When I was a teacher, my greatest joy in the classroom was introducing my students to all the fantastical worlds that reading opens up for us. Newly retired, and with more time on my hands, I was
