About the author

Mark Podwal was an American artist, author, filmmaker and physician. He may have been best known initially for his drawings on The New York Times Op-Ed page. In addition, he is the author and illustrator of numerous books. Most of these works—Podwal's own as well as those he has illustrated for others—typically focus on Jewish legend, history and tradition. His art is represented in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Israel Museum, the National Gallery of Prague, the Jewish Museums in Berlin, Vienna, Stockholm, Prague, New York, among many other venues.

Well I gave this five stars because it was very grown-up for a children’s story. I bet it has commentary in the town right but I don’t know. I always wonder why king Solomon gave his ring to the demon that just makes sense but we all make mistakes I guess. I was lucky him finding the fish at the market that had the ring in it. Who had something else like that once but I liked the way this was written and I like the pictures to you. :-) Nice story. But the moral is: I don’t want to go cutting through a fish to find a ring. Maybe the most magical thing is that the ring was still magical even after being cut out a fish
