Brother and Sister, Bubba and Squirt travel through the hole that they dug with a magic spade that took them in their first book to China. This time the hole takes them to the jungles of Belize to a Mayan ruin site where they discover all about the Mayan Indians and their culture.

When they exit the hole they find themselves right next to an archaeological dig site and are welcomed by the daughter of the archaeologist, though her father isn’t pleased to see them and shoos them away.

With Bubba remembering a dream featuring his Great-Great-Grandad, the pair return to the site when everyone has left as they are sure that something about the site and the dig isn’t right. But what will they discover?

I haven’t read the first book in the series and whilst once the action got going it didn’t matter whether I had read the first book or not, I also didn’t know who Bubba and Squirt were, or even that they were siblings or why they could travel to places via a hole in the ground, so for back story information I would suggest reading book one first.

The two children are very likeable and inquisitive as well as brave, you’d have to be to jump into a hole in the ground without knowing where you would end up! The story is full-on with lots of mysteries to solve and pieces of a puzzle to put together. It is adventurous and had me quickly turning the pages wanting to know what was happening next.

It is a fun book with a very imaginative plot that is educational too given that I learned a lot about the Mayan Indian’s, although my knowledge at the beginning was very sparse.

Overall, if a child loves a book that is full of action and suspense as well as mysterious, then I would suggest they give this book a read. I can see more adventures for the siblings coming in the future but where will the hole take them next?

It's easy to see why this author has won so many book awards for her previous releases! This book is well-written, well-paced, and unique.

This is the second book in the 'Bubba and Squirt' adventure series. I feel the story can easily be read as a standalone.

There is a lot to like about this book, especially the friendly sibling banter between younger brother, Bubba, and his older sister, Squirt; the well-described setting for their adventures in the jungles of Belize; the historical significance of the Mayan Indian culture revealed through the course of the story; and the fantasy and mystery elements of the story which I expect will delight middle-grade readers.

The back matter in this book is exceptional. There are sections containing facts on the Mayan Indians and Altun Ha (a ceremonial center for the ancient Mayan Indians in Belize), two maps, a list of additional resources, and a bibliography. In addition, there is a detailed glossary containing Spanish words/numbers/names used in the story which are translated into English; and two recipes of foods served in the story.

Highly-recommended for fans of middle-grade Latin American fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and Mayan Indian culture.

Disclosure: I was provided with a paperback review copy of this book by the publisher. I was not compensated in any way for posting a review on this site or any other site. This review expresses my own opinions.

If you’ve read the book Bubba and Squirt’s Big Dig to China, by Sherry Ellis, you met Bubba and Squirt, brother and sister, who dug a hole with the magic shovel Grandpa gave them and ended up in China. Well, they’re at it again. The latest adventure of the two explorers starts with a dream that Bubba has where his Great-Great-Grandpa Jacob tells him that it’s important to go down the hole again, but not to China. Who are they to argue with their great-great grandpa? So, they're off again. This time they find themselvs not in China but somewhere just as exciting, or perhaps even more so.

In this new place they discover pyramids, a girl, some archaeologists, and other valuable things. What is going on? They soon find out, and it isn’t all good.

Bubba and Squirt are delightful characters and very much like real people. They’re not perfect. They make mistakes, as everyone does. The descriptions of the land and different settings bring the reader right into the scene until you feel like you’re there, experiencing the excitement and events along with the kids.

At the end of the story, the author gives the reader interesting information about the Mayan Indians and a different country, along with recipes, a glossaryy, and other interesting information.
I recommend Bubba and Squirt’s MAYAN ADVENTURE for Middle Grade Readers and older readers Happy Reading.

This is the second book in a series, but the author catches the reader up enough that it can be read as a standalone. I still, however, would recommend reading these in order

Bubba has a dream, making it clear that it's time for him and Squirt to revisit the hold they'd dug one month before—the same one that brought them to their first adventure in China. Despite Squirt's reluctance, she agrees, and the two find themselves in Belize. There they discover someone has been stealing artifacts, and another exciting, magical adventure begins.

These two siblings are simply a lot of fun. They have a healthy sibling relationship, which does not mean that they always get along. Their actions and decisions come across very true to life as they find themselves in mysterious, magical and even, at times, dangerous situations. Every page holds something exciting or intriguing, making this a hard book to put down. Add the shorter length, and this is even a tale for more reluctant readers.

While the adventure keeps readers on the edge of their seats, the author also weaves in a bit of culture and history. Readers learn more about the Mayan culture. At the end of the book, there are several pages of more information including recipes and a glossary, too. I received an ARC and enjoyed the adventure quite a bit.

A story that can make you smile or makes you wonder about something is a good read no matter what age group it is written for.

BUBBA AND SQUIRT’S MAYAN ADVENTURE is just that kind of book. It’s listed as a middle grade or juvenile fiction genre, but it is a fun read no matter your age. The author combines mystery and the past into a fascinating adventure.

The story is a great way to get youngsters interested in history and learning while reminding adults about some of the mysteries of the world. The author also includes recipes and bits of real history at the end of the story.

The characters are realistic and well developed. The brother and sister team of Bubba and Squirt will remind you of youngsters you know (or were yourself). The story flows smoothly at a good pace and is a quick read.

The author intertwines Mayan culture, mythology, fun, mystery, and imagination into a tantalizing journey you won’t want to miss.

This is SUCH a fun book! I adored Bubba and Squirt. They're interesting characters who have different personalities. This brother and sister team love each other and respect each other, even when they drive each other a little batty!

I loved the visit to an archeological dig and a look at the Mayan culture as well as the current Belize culture. The interesting characters and a plot that keeps spinning in interesting directions will be loved by both kids and adults alike. I'm also looking forward to trying the chicken tortilla soup with the recipe.

A great read for everyone!

Another fun adventure with Bubba and Squirt.
This time Bubba had a dream to come to Mexico to an excavation side of the ancient Mayan, to help to find out who was steeling their finds.
Hesitating first, they both decided to follow Bubba's dream. They went to the hole Bubba had made. Here they were swept away and arrived at the excavation side.
Then the incredible adventure begins, with finding out, what powers Bubba has.
I recommend the book

"Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure" is a great book with adventure, imagination, history, laughter, and friendship, all in one!
Bubba and Squirt are siblings who take turns narrating the chapters. They go on an adventure to try to help solve the mystery of missing artifacts.
It is a quick and easy read with large print in the paperback edition. Each chapter headline lets the reader know who the narrator of each chapter is, either Bubba or Squirt. It is fun to see how the siblings interact with each other on the adventure and interesting to see each of the viewpoints.
The book even has a little bit of education in it with some history and Spanish words. It would be a great book for reluctant readers because it is quick, fun, and easy to read.

Those intrepid young explorers Bubba and Squirt are off to a new adventure in the second book in an entertaining middle-grade series from author Sherry Ellis. In "Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure", Bubba and his big sister Squirt find themselves in Belize (a country located on the northeastern coast of Central America) at the site of an ancient Mayan archaeological dig. The detective-minded duo, who come from a family of magicians, are no strangers to mystical mysteries. Their first escapade occurred after Bubba dug a big hole in the woods behind their house, and that hole turned out to be a whirling vortex which transported them all the way to China. Now, they are caught in the middle of a case where valuable artifacts are being stolen as soon as they are discovered. Bubba and Squirt have their hands full trying to catch a thief, running from and after mythical characters come to life, and trying to get back home before their mom gets mad. "Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure" is a fun and interesting read for young readers and readers who are young at heart. Author Sherry Ellis has also added some fascinating history, recipes for "Fry Jacks" and "Chicken Tortilla Soup", and a glossary which includes Spanish words and numbers. Readers will also enjoy the first book in the series, "Bubba and Squirt's Big Dig to China".

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the MC Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure by Sherry Ellis is an excellent little short read about going on an adventure with two young kids.
How can Bubba and Squirt find their way back home from Belize?
Bubba and Squirt
Bubba and his sister Squirt are the main characters of this story who go on another adventure to Belize to a Mayan temple. Our first character is named Bubba, a little boy who is always bringing Squirt on these adventures of his. The first one to China and now to Belize. Squirt is the oldest of the two siblings, and she's always worried about her little brother. These two within the chapters has each one where they are the main character. I like how they get to the country where they are needed and figure out a way to go home, even if it's after doing something like figuring out who is stealing the artifacts.

Bubba is a courageous little adventurer who loves magic tricks and solving mysteries. He is a likable character that tries to find the positive in everything. Squirt is the older sister who tries to be the sound of reason when it comes to taming Bubba. It doesn't always work for her. I like Squirt and how she helps Bubba do some stuff that he can't do independently.
Bubba and Squirt CRThe Adventure
The adventure in this novel is all about trying to figure out who is stealing artifacts from this archeologist dig that is happening near the temple where Bubba and Squirt entered Belize. The problem is trying to figure out and catch the culprit. It's an exciting escapade for these two kids to be on the lookout for this guy when no one else has been able to figure out who is doing it.
Four Stars
Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure by Sherry Ellis is an excellent read for young kids looking for an adventure while also learning about a different culture. Ms. Ellis has done a fantastic job on this story, and I loved every minute of reading it. I am giving this four stars and recommending it to anyone looking for an excellent read for your child.

Don't forget to check out the recipes in the back and make them with your kids or just for yourself.

Fearless Bubba is balanced by his more practical older sister, Squirt, in this fun, fast-paced adventure for young readers. Set in the rich atmosphere of a Mayan ruin in the jungles of Belize, the story gives readers insight into Mayan culture as well as archaeology. I particularly enjoyed having mythology woven into the story. An engaging narrative that's alternately told from the first-person perspectives of Bubba and Squirt.

This is the 2nd in a series, and as someone who hasn't yet read the first book, I thought the author did a great job of bringing the reader up to speed on elements from book one without slowing the pace of book two.

The back matter of the book is fantastic, providing interesting facts about the places Bubba and Squirt visit in the story. A great supplement.

I received a digital copy of Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure in exchange for my honest review.

Author Sherry Ellis does it again! In this the second Bubba and Squirt’s adventure series, Bubba and Squirt head out on another adventure that will transport young readers into an imaginary world of intrigue. The delightful and life-like brother and sister duo continue to work as a team, this time they dig a hole that leads them to a place filled with pyramids, archaeologists, and other interesting things. The author has done her homework with descriptive settings that will draw the young reader in. I highly recommend this book penned by the talented author, Sherry Ellis. I can’t wait to give this book to my grandson. He loved the first one so much. He said he couldn’t put the book down.

Author Sherry Ellis brings us Bubba and Squirt's next adventure. This time Bubba who talked with his grandfather whom gave him an alux which would help him later told him that he was special, in the way that his great great great-gradfather was. Bubba shows the alux to his sister Squirt and they head for the whole in the ground that took them on their previous adventure to China. Now it has taken them to Napals Spain where they meet Romondo and his family on an dig for historic artifacts. During their short time there they meat the man in the forest who taught Bubba how to move objects with his mind. This is a fun short novella and it's a great read as well as giving a possible indication as to what happened to Mayan's whom just disappeared centuries ago. I highly recommend this book to everyone who likes a little adventure with great characters.

At once informational and entertaining, this book took me on a ride that made the jungles of Belize feel inherently real. The banter between Bubba and Squirt reminded me of the constant haggling between my own siblings. However, I felt it unrealistic at times. The citizens of Altun Ha talked about Mayans in the past tense, which didn’t make sense considering they were Mayans themselves. Also, the archaeologists immediately trusted a foreign, teenage brother and sister to capture dangerous criminals. It seemed like a vehicle to move the plot forward that was too forced and unnatural. This, combined with the often passive narration and indiscernible points of view, caused me to lose interest in the book halfway through. However, it is still generally easy to follow and contains engaging information. I would recommend this to emerging readers seeking a book that blurs the lines between fiction and nonfiction.

Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure is a delightful celebration of imagination. It's a mystery, an adventure, and a fantasy rolled into one. The brother-sister team are magically transported to South America, but reading this book was like being transported back to when I was little.
Sherry Ellis masterfully jumps from the perspective of Bubba to Squirt and back again, giving us two very distinct voices to enjoy. I especially loved that the end came with some context to the places and people as well as recipes from the story.
I strongly recommend you share the fantastic adventures of Bubba and his reluctant sister Squirt with the little person in your life. And before or after you read this, check out her Bubba and Squirt's big Dig to China, something I myself tried to do as a kid.

I learned a lot about the Mayan culture reading Sherry Ellis's Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure. Ellis provides dual protagonists in this Middle Grade chapter book, alternating though the chapters. This allows for two perspectives throughout the story, one a little younger and more adventurous, Bubba the brother, and the other a little older, Squirt the sister, the more cautious and perhaps a bit of a non-believer.

Through a magical tunnel in their backyard, the brother sister team visit Belize and a Mayan archeological dig. And there the adventure really begins. Running through the jungle, chasing a thief and magical creatures. The story moves along quickly. The characters are distinct and alive. Ellis provides a bit of Spanish in the story for the reader and provides a Spanish glossary in the back of the book along with two delicious recipes of the foods eaten in the story. She also provides a short history about the Mayan Indians and an understanding of Altun Ha, an “active archeological site.” [p-86] Sherry Ellis's Bubba and Squirt's Mayan Adventure is a delightful read for young children.

Bubba, and his big sister, Squirt, once again venture into the hole near the old sycamore tree. The last time they went through the vortex, they ended up in China. This time, they land in the jungle at an archeology dig in Belize. They meet a Esperanza, whose father is in charge of the archeology excavation. They have to help Esperanza and her father to find out who is stealing the valuable artifacts from the dig.

This is a fun, exciting story that incorporates Mayan culture and folklore in a magical way. Perfect for kids who love the The Magic Tree House series and it inspires the desire to learn more about Mayan culture, or at least it did for me.

This exciting story, Bubba and Squirt’s Mayan Adventure, begins when Bubba and his big sister, Squirt, visit their grandpa. They saw a strange looking statue there and grandpa told them it was called an Alux (Ah-loosh), or a Mayan gnome. Shortly after that, Bubba and Squirt use a sled but it isn’t to slide on the snow. Instead, it leads them down a mysterious tunnel where they see various pyramids.
Bubba and Squirt briefly think of going home, but they end up meeting a young girl named Esperanza and her dad. What happens next? Bubba, Squirt, Esperanza and her dad work together to find a crafty thief. Who was stealing the valuable Mayan artifacts? Readers will be mesmerized by the story. They’ll eagerly turn the pages to see what happens next.
This is an engaging story for young readers. They will also enjoy the extra information at the end of the book, such as the information on the Mayan civilization, the country of Belize, the glossary, and recipes that Bubba and Squirt enjoyed on their journey. I highly recommend it. Another wonderful book by Sherry Ellis. Congratulations on a job well done, Ms. Ellis.

Author Sherry Ellis does it again with another adventure from the brother and sister team, Bubba and Squirt. The last adventure deals with the two solving a mystery in China, but here they are solving a mystery about ancient Mayan artifacts. Ellis is a gifted children’s writer as the book educates children about the Mayans while the two protagonists solve a mystery. The best kind of learning happens when it doesn’t feel like learning, because it’s intriguing, fun! This story entertains and educates... and it is humorous as well! I highly recommend this delightful read.
