A postscript to this edition includes a touching letter that Berg's young daughter wrote about her father for the Books for a Better Life Awards ceremony. On December 26, 1983, Art Berg was traveling to see his fiancée when his car went off the road. A broken neck left him a quadriplegic. Doctors told Berg he would never walk, hold a job, or have children. But they could not have been more wrong. Berg was determined to prevail, and would one day wear his own Super Bowl ring. In The Impossible Just Takes a Little Longer, Berg recounts his harrowing and inspirational story while imparting larger lessons about life, fear, and passion. Never giving up, Art resolved to embrace life even more fully, and established a thriving career as a motivational speaker, giving more than 150 speeches each year. Tragically, Art Berg died in February 2002, but his inspiring story -- a singular vision of passion and conviction -- lives on in The Impossible Just Takes a Little Longer.
Great read. Throughout life many of us make excuses about why we cannot do things. Art Berg is an inspiration to me and others that show we should never give up on our dreams.
Hands down, the best book I've ever read. I'm really sad it's over :( And to know that he is no longer alive, and hasn't been for 10 years now... His book is INCREDIBLE. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. No matter what you're going through in life, no matter how busy your schedule is, no matter if you like reading books or not. This will change your life, it will leave an impact on your thoughts, and you will be a better person by the time you reach the last page.
I started reading this book on the perfect day. I was having a VERY hard time with a personal experience, and the part I started reading, happened to be the answer to my situation. I was almost to tears. I've been thinking about this book non-stop and how I can change my ways.
There were a lot of things that stuck out to me in this book, but the one I can't stop thinking about is, "Don't think about how much farther you have to go. Think about how far you have come." And so far, it's gotten me through these last couple days....
I've loved this book. It definitely deserves 5 stars.
Art, a 20-something successful adult becomes involved in a car accident one holiday season while being driven by a friend to see his fiance. As a result, he becomes a quadriplegic, and this book details the struggles that he worked through both mentally and physically to enable himself to become a successful speaker, businessman, and father. It is a life-changing book in many ways - one of those you read with a highlighter and keep for later reference! Outstanding read, that doesn't shy away from speaking of his faith and fervent belief in God and prayer.
This book was bitter-sweet considering the adversity the author over came only to pass away while still young. His legacy will continue for anyone who reads this. I picked it up merely because its been on my to-read list for many years and came away with some valuable insights. Most relevant to me were to not be a 'why-ner' and to cease blaming others for things (even if they are to blame). I recommend it.
In the genre of self-help books this one is outstanding. The author overcame some tremendous adversity and as the title suggests it took great effort to achieve a limited success with a project that was deemed un-achievable. As I am reviewing this book some ten years later, I remember few details, but I do remember some, which is saying a lot, and I have often quoted the title in answer to my own and other's frustration over failure.
This is a great book with a lot of uplifting help for when life gets trying. I liked it so well I bought a copy of my own so I can read it again and mark it up.
I have used stories from this book many times to help others who are discouraged or are asking the question "why me?". I am currently reading it again, but this time aloud to my children.
Inspiring story with a great message. I have thought back to this book many times over the years when facing tough challenges myself and have read it more than once.
