A battle is coming, the greatest the Rim has seen in ten thousand years, a fight for freedom, for the future, for the very survival of all humanity holds dear.
Tyler Barron and his comrades are ready for their greatest test, but even as they prepare to hold the line at Fortress Striker, to turn back the Highborn’s imminent attack, the enemy have opened another front, one far to the rear. Before Barron and his spacers can face their own ordeal, a ragtag force must hold another fortress, an older one that has seen many battles, but has long been neglected and allowed to fall into decay. If they fail, Barron and his vast fleet will face enemies to their front and to the rear…and any chance of victory will be lost.
Meanwhile, Andi Lafarge and her small crew scour the depths of the Badlands, searching for the secret weapon the empire used to defeat the Highborn three centuries before…and possibly the only real hope for victory in the current war.
The greatest struggle humanity has faced is nearing its climax. Warriors struggle and die, giant warships clash, worlds burn…but will the suffering lead to a new hope for humanity…or the endless dark age that has been feared since the fall of the empire?
The Confederation never, ever stops fighting. And now it looks like they will finally be destroyed! The Highborn are in control of the Union and both Gaston Villieneuve and Ciara have been Collared which means they can’t control their actions any more. Villieneuve now serving the Highborn just like all the other Thralls, but Ciara has been sent on a deadly mission to the Confederation, if they will accept her escape story as true. Gary Holsten did not, but he was kind of overruled by the Senate Speaker Emmit Flandry, who escorted her back to Megara, capital of the Confederation. Ciara was going to address the entire Senate as a First Citizen in exile. Her presence in the Senate building was going to be a horrible mistake!
Meanwhile, Andi Laforge or rather Andi Barron, has once again left her husband, Admiral Tyler Barron and her daughter, in pursuit of the mysterious weapon previously used to defeat the Highborn. She has limited clues as to where to look, but she knows it’s on an ancient planet in the unknown and barely explored part of the Badlands. Her old ship, the Pegasus, with her old crew, including Vig, were going as quickly as they could so they could return to the fleet and hopefully provide a decisive weapon against the Highborn. There was not guarantee that Andi would find anything since the previous actions against the Highborn had been centuries ago.
Out near the border between the Confederation and the Union stood Fleet Base Grimaldi. This once powerful space station had been the anchor of the Confederations fights with the Union. It’s powerful guns could range just as long as the Highborn, but Union space was pretty quiet and had been until now. As you read in the pervious book, the Highborn have joined with the Union and has provided a substantial fleet of Highborn battle ships ready to cross the border and start attacking the Confederation from a new direction. If they could get past Fleet Base Grimaldi, they would have a straight shot into the heart of the Confederation.
Gary Holsten had commandeered every available starship that was left in the Confederation and sent them to Fleet Base Grimaldi. He was also there directing the preparations for the coming fight although he had not military experience or rank. Yet those troops with him accepted his position as leader of this defense and followed his orders without question. He had also promoted Captain Colin Simpson to Commodore, although again, Holsten didn’t know if he actually had the authority to do so. Yet, Commodore Simpson was the best military tactician he had and that’s what he needed now.
This coming battle was going to be very difficult. Admiral Barron and his staff didn’t have anything available to send to Fortress Grimaldi so they had to do with what they had and that wasn’t much. Even the very newest battle ship Gary had ordered from the docks wasn’t complete and most of the other ships had been in space docks being repaired. So, that’s what was going to hold the Union and the Highborn back. A very tough and almost impossible job.
Meanwhile, Admiral Barron was getting ready to face his own battle. This was going to be a battle to the death as far as Confederation and the Pact were concerned. There was not place to fall back to. Fortress Striker was as ready as it was ever going to be, but even Admiral Barron didn’t believe it was enough!
Ok, so the Highborn attacking Fortress Striker change their tactics some what and send troop ships in great numbers towards that station. They also sent troop ships to other Pact ships. It wasn’t really known why they were doing this since the Highborn could probably just blast all these ships to pieces. Were they trying to capture the ships intact or what? That was a mystery that Admiral Barron could not figure out and it almost cost him.
Meanwhile. Jake Stockton has actually gained control of his actions to the extent he plans to aid his old Confederation pilots, but only if they will believe that it’s actually him flying a Highborn starfighter. It might be impossible to get them to accept the information he’s going to pass, but Jake knows one thing. He’s going to die in this last battle!
I believe this is the next to the last book. I can’t imagine the Pact and Admiral Barron fighting much longer. They won’t have anything to fight with. I’m not sure Andi will bring back the weapon that’s needed to defeat the Highborn because Tyler Barron might not want to use it. What kind of weapon could she have found?
The keystone cops would do a better job than the "intelligence services" in this book series. Wondered why the Union was left as a sub-plot rather than being removed at the appropriate point in the book series? Just so that we could have the ridiculous Sandrine Ciara plot line. No serious intelligence service would leave this person alone for a minute, not even in the toilet, yet we're expected to believe that Ciara would have the freedom to wreck havoc after "escaping" in the middle of a battle and being left alone long enough to fall into bed with a senior "intelligence" officer. Well, this book hasn't improved on the last ten, and we're still going along at a snails pace.

The books are clearly being written by some form of voice dictation and not being edited whatsoever or by someone else entirely for whom English is a second language. The book is horribly edited as was the last one and it's extremely irritating. They switch from Atara to Akella, from him to her, Bryan Rogan was called a woman at one point via pronoun, it's just ridiculous. I gave three stars because the story line is still interesting but damn it man can't you edit your books again please? A simple read through from one person would correct numerous errors so it's clear even that's not being done.
The book confirmed many of my suspicions about the origin of the Rim nations. It also tied in nicely with Jay Allan’s other series. I’ll miss some of the characters though as he continues to bring in fresh ones and he does a good job at also presenting the political aspects. Don’t like the open contempt he has for politicians though but considering that books reflect the time one lives, can understand why. Overall, it is a good read and am glad to see the series continue to be well worth my time.
Lost friends and loved ones. How do they keep on? The answer is partly in this book. This series of books has become one of my all time best reads. I'm looking forward to the next two books yet I'm not. Don't want the series to end. The only minor detail is in the copy reading. Referring to a he as she. Misspellings that are words just not the right words. I'll take off .0005 points for this. The stories are just too good to Care a lot.
Tyler Barron, Andi LaFarge, Vian Tulus, Akella, and Chronos and their PACT allies continue to battle the Highborn, a domineering race who intend to subjugate all humans, wherever they may be. Monumental battles leave thousands dead, and massive fleets reduced to scrap metal as the two sides go head-to-head in the vast reaches of deep space. Can the PACT allies come up with something to give them an edge in a war where they are outnumbered and out gunned?
This was good but it keeps running the same tropes. A desperate battle and a willingness to go beyond safety. While there are some shocking moments that are surprising, but it is only focused on one perspective. I wish the author would expand on the culture of his universe and not the military. Fanaticism to the military is interesting but it ignores the potential points of view of other characters in this universe.
Well that didn't end as I expected. One more book in the series to go and it looks a bit shorter than the rest.
Things are more up in the air than I could have imagined. The heroes that have survived this long are walking patchworks. The ships and fortresses are blackened ruins akin to the Old Empire capital.
The good guys are on the wrong end of a kicking and leaning to genocide as their only hope of survival. Pretty much the way the Old Empire went out.
My heart has been on a roller coaster ride throughout this amazing sequel. But most important was the small reference to his other books from the author that I have tremendously enjoyed reading. I have truly enjoyed reading it with my eyes and it made my heart happy!
I am in awe right now. Flew through this book in two days and it brought some parts of the story full circle while new and terrifying parts to come!! I am hooked and if you want a great series, it doesn’t get any better than this!!! Keep them coming Jay!!!!
Book 16 was a fun read and had errors throughout. I enjoyed the plot and character development. The plot has changed just a bit, the main characters are juggling multiple information on how to win the war with the Highborn. The characters are strong as always and grown with each book. I look forward to the next book
All Blood on the Stars books have been exciting and beautifully written. The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is because, like the previous books, it is riddled with errors - the kind you can’t just catch with spell check... like using the name of a different character or using “she” when talking about a “he”.
What a thrilling ride yet gut wrenching at times as you can feel the highs and lows of the characters. You revel in the dedication to family, friends and team members, but you also feel the sting of loss of loved ones, friends, heroes you have become so attached to. Outstanding series!
The book was a great sci-fi space ,military adventure of a Pact lead by Admiral Tyler Barron with all the allies of the rim to defend against a race called the Highborn . Who are only interested in taking control of all of humanity! Looking forward to the next book.
The battle sequences are intense realistic well though through
Jay Allen continues to create intense well planned out story lines in this mega series. The suspense level of of all the characters, within the subplots, ties everything together. Even though this is #16 in the series the is enough history to be a stand alone novel.
Another excellent and fast paced read. Lots of action helps keep this book flowing and enjoyable. New and terrible events begin to unfold. Looking forward to the next book.
After the pasting the Pact took in the last book I was hesitant to see what happened next. I'm glad I kept reading. How Mr. Allan manages to keep upping the stakes in this storyline is incredible. And the tease about pre-empire life!
There was way too much rehashing throughout the story and this is becoming a regular thing. Angst over and over! Enough already. On a positive note, there was approximately 50 pages of great story with lots of action.
Good book! Kind of predictable with regards to Stockton. You kind of knew what was already going to happen. Definitely a very good Cliffhanger at the end. Some sad deaths that you certainly didn't want to see. Definitely read this.
Just finished Attack Plan Alpha and it was not just good but it was so good that I could not put it down. The company of characters were as alive as possible within the confines of a story.
The story is good but getting drawn out. The author is pushing the feeling of the characters over and over and that is getting tedious. I'm still going to continue to read it.
Key players seem so real! Loss players are sad to see go but they continue to be a positive influence. Feel like i could bump into anyone of them but carefully ;-).
Seems as though there was more filler than some of the earlier books. If this was the first book but it isn't. Let the reader go back to earlier books. Don't force your devoted readers to re hash the story.
Very exciting. I enjoy the way the author shows the battle sences from various perspectives, however I felt it would have been better to expound on the Highborns view of the progress of the battle.
Unfortunately riddled with typos, and the pace of exposition picks up considerably as well... Obviously, I'm 16 books in, but the last two installments seem under par for the series.
The Confederation and the Pact seem to never catch more than a moment's breath before their tattered fleets again face the seemingly unstoppable onslaught of Highborn. The battle lines are tested once again in this epic next chapter.
No rest for the weary, the war goes on, now on two fronts. Another great read. Dont pick this book up unless you have the time to finish it as it is nonstop action.
Great story. Non stop action with plenty of twists and turns. Found myself flipping ahead to see what happens to a character. I will enjoy rereading this book again.
Wow this has to be one of the best books I have read! The series has been building up for this fight and it was every thing I was waiting for and more.
