For as long as I could remember I lived life based on logic and reason. My decisions and choices were well thought out, sensible, practical and responsible. However, this strategy wasn’t working for me. I found that my intentions rarely unfolded the way I’d hoped even when I’d actioned backup plans B, C and D.
After years of trial and error, I still couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. What I found most baffling was that some things just seemed to fall into place easily, but others didn’t, regardless of how much planning, effort and strategising I did. I felt confused, frustrated and disheartened. It got to the point that I was terrified of making a decision on my own.
Then, in 2001, I was recommended Denise Linn’s book, Signposts: How to interpret the coincidences and symbols in your life. Reading Signposts was the breakthrough I needed to provide me with answers to questions I had about why certain aspects of my life were so difficult and why unwanted circumstances kept showing up.
Denise Linn introduced me to the notion that there is a higher intelligence that governs life. It’s constantly communicating with us, lovingly guiding and directing us through the use of personal messages sent to us in the form of ‘signs’.
According to Denise, we are surrounded by these messages in both our waking lives and our dreams, whether we are conscious of it or not. She explains that fundamentally there are two types of signs - messenger and reflection signs.
Messenger signs, she says, are direct messages from spirit about our spiritual development. Their purpose is to give us insight and understanding about relationships and situations in our lives. Denise says that messenger signs usually come in the form of gentle nudges. Learning to hear these messages can bring more balance and harmony to your life.
Reflection signs, on the other hand, reflect our consciousness, Denise explains. Everything around us, every situation we encounter, every experience we have provides us with clues as to what our subconscious mind believes to be true about life.
Our beliefs, Denise says, act as magnets, pulling us to situations and people that are congruous with our subconscious beliefs. In other words, our personal world is created or manifested as a result of the core beliefs we hold in our subconscious mind. Denise helps us understand that if we consciously change our subconscious beliefs the way we feel about ourselves and our experience of life improves.
I’d been oblivious to the messages that life, the universe, spirit and my guides (or whatever you’d like to call this higher intelligence) were sending me. Denise’s work helped me begin to see that I was in the habit of ploughing right over any of life's warning signs telling me not to go in a particular direction or that the timing wasn’t quite right.
Signposts contains a ‘sign dictionary’ which assists in deciphering the messages we receive so that we can then begin a dialogue with the universe. It also includes powerful tools which allow us to become more aware of our subconscious beliefs and ways to create a new energy template to help shift these beliefs.
Personally, the sign dictionary helped me see and relate to my environment in new ways. As a result, I was able to move out of my head and become more conscious of what was going on around me.
For example, all of the hot water taps began to drip immediately following a relationship breakup. I had all the washers replaced by a plumber but within three months the hot water taps began dripping again.
Next, a hot water pipe in my bathroom began to leak resulting in the bathroom floor being jackhammered up.
Not long afterwards the hose to my washing machine blew off the wall mid wash and I couldn’t turn the running water off. In essence, there was water everywhere.
Signposts’ sign dictionary pointed these occurrences in the direction of my emotions. Once I properly grieved the relationship breakup and dealt with childhood issues surrounding the death of my father, the water leaks disappeared. I haven’t had so much as a dripping tap since.

Voor het lezen:
De cover is echt prachtig. Het is een zwarte cover met daarop kleine vlinders, libelles, motjes en bijen die vanuit het midden het heelal in vliegen. In het geel springt de titel op de zwarte cover er enorm uit. In licht roze zijn de schrijfster en de ondertitel te lezen. De cover is enorm uitnodigend en maakt me bewust dat ik er de tijd voor neem de kleine details waar te nemen. Ik verwacht dat dit boek me meer bewust gaat maken van de kleine dingen die er in ons leven gebeuren en ik daar met wat meer bewondering en met nieuwsgierigheid naar ga kijken.

Conclusie:
Het was een enorm bijzonder en origineel boek. Het boek is wat anders dan de meeste doorsnee boeken. Het is een complete verzameling van hele persoonlijke verhalen, oefeningen om te vragen om een teken voor een bepaalde vraag die in je leven speelt en manieren hoe dat je een teken kan interpreteren. Tot slot volgt nog een woordenboek waarin dat je de betekenis van een teken dat je krijgt kan opzoeken.
Het boek leest wel lekker weg, ondanks het kleine lettertype, was de schrijfstijl wel vlot en krachtig. Het boek is echt een toegankelijk boek geworden wat denk ik een vrij breed publiek zal aanspreken, hoewel je er natuurlijk wel voor open moet willen staan om de dingen te zien die in je leven op je pad komen.
Het boek was voor mij een leerzaam en enorm inspirerend boek. Het gaf me nieuwe inzichten en nieuwe invalshoeken hoe dat je een situatie of teken kan bekijken en er mee om kan gaan.
Voor iedereen die open staat voor spiritualiteit raad ik dit mooie boek zeker aan om een keer te lezen.

This book literally opened up a new way for me to interact with my life and world around me.
It forever altered how I walk through life. This book was also my first introduction to Denise Linn’s work, I am grateful for her no nonsense and truthful honest authentic approach to living a spiritual life.

this was an interesting book.. i read thru it quickly, as the last half of the book is more a "signs dictionary"..
being Native American, i was raised in a culture with firm beliefs in signs and superstition.. some think there are no coincidences in life, that everything has a reason.. i definitely lean towards that thinking..
the first part of the book is understanding the different ways signs appear to us..
the second half of the book is the dictionary part, which can be helpful for anyone new to researching signs and symbols and such, but i find that these tend to be individual.. depending on so many variables..[culture, religion, demographics etc] so i suppose using this book as a guide is good.. but i think each person needs to tap into their intuition to know what a sign means to them..

It's ok. 90 pages about the origin of signs which is good. And then it's just a list of all the signs, a lot like a dream symbol book.

Een fijn boek met goede uitleg over tekens die uit het universum afkomstig zijn. Mooie toepasbare dingen geleerd. Een uitgebreid woordenboek waarin ik zeker nog dingen ga opzoeken ✨

Tot aan het deel “woordenboek van tekens” gelezen, het leek me niet zinvol om een half boek met betekenissen van specifieke tekens te gaan lezen. Wel nieuwe, interessante denkwijzes ontdekt.

Denise Linn vertelt in 3 hoofdstukken over toevalligheden, voorgevoelens en synchroniciteit.

Het 4e hoofdstuk beslaat het grootste deel van het boek en bevat een interpretatie van tekens, op alfabetische volgorde. Een woordenboek die je niet als vaststaand moet beschouwen want een teken kan voor jou iets anders inhouden.
Denise Linn had op 17 jarige leeftijd een bijna-doodervaring waarna haar spirituele zoektocht begon. Inmiddels is ze internationaal bekend als leraar op het gebied van zelfontplooiing en geeft wereldwijd seminars. Ze schreef 19 boeken die in 29 talen beschikbaar zijn.
"De zichtbare werkelijkheid om je heen bevat symbolen van jouw innerlijke wereld, die onzichtbaar voor je is.
Schijnbaar toevallige ontmoetingen, voorvallen of gedachten kunnen een boodschap bevatten, je aan het denken zetten, betekenis hebben..
Linn geeft hier veel voorbeelden van en legt het waarnemen van tekens heel goed uit.
Wat ook mogelijk is, als je iets wilt veranderen aan je energiestroom, is je omringen met symbolen. Bv.. Wil je meer innerlijke vrede, omring je dan met dingen die dit voor jou symboliseren.
Je bent wat je denkt, niet alleen bewust maar ook onbewust. Door onze opvoeding zijn we als het ware geprogrammeerd.
Linn beschrijft een manier om je onderbewuste (indien nodig) te herprogrammeren om zo positieve overtuigingen aan te leren.
Ik ben ergens ook best nuchter en soms vind ik iets wel wat vergezocht. Toch vind ik het een heel boeiend en leerzaam onderwerp en heb dus zelf ook veel ervaring met tekens.
Ik herinnerde me ineens ook een ontmoeting met een sneeuwuil. Ruim 20 jaar geleden. Deze vloog recht op ons af en over ons heen. Het was heel magisch en indrukwekkend, door zijn witte kleur leek dit ook een engel. Mijn schoonmoeder was kort ervoor overleden. Geen idee of het daarmee te maken had en of ik de boodschap toen begreep. We waren wel ontroerd.
Ik lees in dit boek dat een uil een krachtig teken is van transformatie.
