“Your life is the decisions you make”

All About Us is a great love story. It is cute and emotional. There is also the time traveling aspect which is an interesting addition.

Ben thinks he is a disappointment to everyone including Daphne and his mother. The last time he talked to his mother did not go well. Can Ben find a way to forgive himself after reliving past events? Is his mother actually disappointed in him?

Ben thinks Daphne would be better off without him. Going back in time really shows Be

A holiday romance? A book that explores the decisions we make and what our life would’ve been if we made different ones? Sign me up!

It seems like I’ve read a number of books recently that play with the Sliding Doors -type concept, where the characters see what might have happened had they made a different choice. I’ve got to admit, I love this concept so much.

In Tom Ellen's new book, All About Us , it’s Christmas Eve. While Ben usually loves the holidays, this year his marriage t

Aaah, this was such a satisfying story. I knew from the first few pages that I was really going to like this book and Ellen did not disappoint. It is sad, it is emotional, but the Christmas theme makes it warm-hearted as well.

It makes a change for me to read a book by a male author and one that features a male protagonist. Having recently analysed the books I read, I am painfully aware that it is female-dominated. Maybe this added to my enjoyment of the story.

Using Dickens’s 'A Christmas Carol',

An enchanting magical love story about the decisions we make that shape our lives and if it was possible to go back in time, would we change the choices we originally made, if we did would we continually make the same mistakes or learn from them.

It’s Christmas Eve 2020 and Ben is out drinking with his best friend, he is stuck in a rut with his wife Daphne. He fears that they have fallen out of love and wonders what life would have been like if he had chosen old flame Alice, when they were at Un

What a delight to read. I had no idea what I was in for when I started All About Us, I merely wanted a Christmas read, but Tom Ellen delivers a gorgeous tale about life and the what-ifs that niggle at us. Much like in A Christmas Carol, Ben is delivered to seemingly random times in his life, a lesson to be found in the past, present, and future. He's lost control of his life, bathes in self-pity, and is on the brink of damaging a relationship to th

As soon as I started this book I loved it which is why I read it so quickly it was just my kind of book, time travel and a good story. The pages turned very quickly and I found I just couldn’t put it down.
I hope this author writes more.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

After fifteen years together, and four years of marriage, she doesn't really know me at all. If she did, then surely she wouldn't still be here.

All About Us is a Dickens' A Christmas Carol inspired story told in first person point-of-view from a drowning in life Ben. He's thirty-four and contemplating having an affair with a woman from his past that he can't

This book is for you if… you enjoy watching idjits digging their own grave out of sheer self pity. TW: death of a parent, cheating, triggering partner/friends.

In All About Us, Tom manages to illustrate a beautiful relationship. Daphne and Ben are a couple that could be described as OTP if they'd both put in the effort. Trouble is, while Daphne is successful and selfless, Ben has a harder time leaving behind the shadow of his ignorant and self-righteous father. The co

This really was a delightful story! I decided to read this book simply because I liked the sound of it. Who hasn't wondered if the choices that they have made in life were the right ones and where different choices would have led. I was ready to go on this journey with Ben and it turned out to be even better than I could have hoped. I really liked this original and romantic retelling of A Christmas Carol.

This is the perfect holiday love story!!!

Seriously people, this will get you out of your COVID funk for at least a little while. It's like a modern retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. But instead of following a greedy and lonely old man, the story follows just a regular guy, who's in a funk and is questioning if he's with the wrong woman. For anyone who loves stories with "what ifs" or "the one that got away," this fabulous book fits the bill. The writing is engaging and clever a

All about us by Tom Ellen is a beautifully written stor.y about love, laughter, friendship and loss.
This is modern day story of the Christmas carol. If you had the chance to go back in time and change the wrongs you made in your life, would you?
Ben is at a crossroads in his relationship with his wife Daphne. He wonders that if he had made different choices in his life would he be still be married to her or would he be now in a relationship with Alice who he met at Uni.

LOOOOOVED this book. I actually hugged it when I finished. This was such a great, refreshing twist on an old Christmas story trope.

It had themes of grief, anxiety, self-doubt, love, and the meaning of life in general. I loved the character growth in this book and I also love that it gives the reader a little chance to do some self reflection this holiday season about what and who is important in our lives. ❤️

Recommends it for: anyone with the need to cry

Going into this novel I was looking for a lighthearted Christmas read to quickly fill my time. I couldn't be more wrong. Two things stand out to me:
1. This is not really a Christmas novel. It's set during Christmas Eve/Day but that's really as much Christmas as you get
2. I cried, at least three times

How did a novel that was just about the main character, Ben, jumping through time to see whether he made a mistake getting with his current wife, make me feel so much, you might ask? Well, beyond bei

Read my full review on my blog:

This book went in a different direction than I thought it would - for the better. I also love how the author depicted the story without making it repetitive; details that were mentioned briefly would be elaborated on more later in the book such that there is very minimal repetition. There are many ways in which the story could have progressed, but I really love how the author chose to do it.

Wow, what a surprise delight this book was! I 100% bought this book for the cover and ended up really adoring this Dickens-esque style story of a man traveling through time to see his alternate realities. Was this a cheery, light Christmas novel? No. I loved the dark nature of the story though and really thought the author did a great job of putting forth the message that you are the decisions that you make.

When I saw that there was time travel involved in this book, I didn't hesitate to request a copy to give this new author a try. Time travel is one of my favorite tropes to read and unfortunately there isn't a huge selection to choose from. This kind of holiday book is typically much more up my alley. A modern-day reworking of A Christmas Carol? Yes please!

I absolutely love this type of book, romantic time travel, and getting the story from the man's point of view was so refreshing! The characters are utterly relatable, with the main character jumping through the years and learning about himself along the way. He also gets a second chance to say and do what he couldn't or wouldn't in the past.

The settings (strip club anyone?) are perfectly and wonderfully described, and I love how the story

This book just wasn't for me.
Whether it was because I read it right after reading a really fantastic romance book, or because the main character was very unlikeable, this book didn't leave much of an impact on me.

I feel so bad too because I really wanted to like this. I even read one of my Goodreads friends reviews, and not only was her review so positive, it made me very optimistic and excited for the read! She even prepared me that I wasn't going to like the character for the first little chu

Well this was a wonderful Christmas Carol retelling. If you like the many movie versions of A Christmas Carol that are out there or you like a Love actually style of Christmas film then this is going to be for you. I have to admit that going into this book I didn't know it was going to be set at Christmas time so if you're not in the mood for festive, don't worry it's not too in your face Christmas!

Thank you HQ Books for gifting me a copy of ALL ABOUT US by Tom Ellen.

I officially kicked off the holiday season with this sweet story about the choices we make and how they shape our lives. As I sat in bed on Sunday morning with my cup of coffee, cinnamon rolls rising, puppies snuggled up around me, I lost myself within the pages of this book. When I was brought back to the present through the beeping oven, I had to remind myself that “no, it is not Christmas Eve, but November 1st” because ALL
I remain pleasantly surprised at how genuinely wonderful this story was. All About Us is an enchanting invitation to soul-search. I went into Ellen's novel thinking I was about to get some regurgitation of Josie Silver's One Day in December, a book that I sadly didn't connect with. I thought it would be the story of 'what if he chose Alice instead of Daphne?' but, thankfully, it took a completely different direction. I think I would have had numerous problems with the book had it taken my origin ...more

A modern-day Christmas Carol. Ben finds himself a bit put out, disgruntled, sitting in a bar chatting with a stranger. His world goes sideways when he get to see his past, present, and future if he'd chosen a different path or different person as it were.

It's a bit of a "midlife crisis" kind of book and my favorite character of all was Ben's mother. Written in a very straightforward manner I would have loved a bit more fleshing out, but overall a nice read with some holiday atmosphere.

5 glorious stars to this wonderful novel. It was SO GOOD. I loved it from start to finish; a great take on the classic 'A Christmas Carol'.

I loved the fact that the main character was a man with tons of issues, he was nowhere near perfect and he keeps on making mistakes, basically ruining his marriage on his own. I was worried at first that this would turn into a 'I married the wrong woman' kind of story, but it didn't and I'm so grateful it d

A nice romantic Christmas Carol inspired story and nice to read a romantic story with a male lead, however it didn’t really stand out for me, it’s an easy read, with an interesting premise of a Christmas Carol mixed with sliding doors, but it just wasn’t really a catch your attention and hold it kind of story, the characters felt a bit one dimensional and the story I felt fell a bit flat once or twice, it picked up towards the end and I felt more of a connection to Ben, but just a bit late, over ...more
There is a Q&A with Tom Ellen at the end of All About Us and I honestly think it made me love the book even more, does that ever happen to anyone else? I seem to be reading quite a few books lately that involve time traveling and I am really enjoying them. I loved the old man that sold Ben the watch, and I really enjoyed how he kept popping up during the book. It was interesting to see how Ben evolves through the story, and it was so beautifully written. Ellen is clearly a talented writer, and h ...more
