description

This is the first non-paranormal book I read by Nalini Singh. I just really got excited after reading the blurb. I absolutely love single parent romances, and I looked forward to this book. I will just get straight to the point and say that I enjoyed Love Hard. Jake is a great dad to his six-year-old daughter Esme. Juliet (Jules) is a strong and independent woman that has a look of spunk. I loved her banter with Jake and I thought they made a

Oh my goodness! Jake and Jules took my heart by surprise, and they took it hard. Love Hard was an amazing story.

Ahhhhh this was such a lovely book in a wonderful series. I am not a fan of rugby (although I am a rugby widow at various parts of the year, since my husband loves the game so much!), but I am a huge fan of the big, warm, inclusive family at the heart of most of these books. I love the way that the spiky, strong, fabulous heroine gets embraced by all of them in this story - at one point, she realizes that she's falling in love with Jake's family as well as with him, and I loved the whole ...more

Jacob Esera is a single dad and rugby player. The mother of his daughter died from a sudden illness when they were both still teenagers, since then he's become even more serious and protective.

His polar opposite is Juliet Nelisi, a former class mate and BFF to his dead girlfriend, she was wild and bad and the two of them have never liked each other. Brought together by the marriage of his brother and her friend the barbs are flying but underneath there is an unwelcome attraction.

This hit so many

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not really a contemporary reader as I much prefer a paranormal storyline. This series is one of the few exceptions because I want to be part of the Esera family. The author has created a believable, relatable set of characters that stand so tall in this readers minds eye. I was bowled over by Gabriel and Charlotte, delighted by Sailor and Isa and now felt my heart melt as Jake falls for Juliet.
The couple were at school together but more often than not at

Easily a 5 stars read for me.
This was achingly romantic and swoony. I loved loved loved Jacob (he's a single dad -duh!) and Juliet was equally amazing. I could not have asked for a better book to spend my Sunday afternoon with.

Nalini Singh destroys us with another amazing love story.

This is one of those love stories that punches you square in the heart and you have to sit back and breathe a bit before you can move on.

Jake Esera is celebrating this brother Gabriel's (T-Rex) marriage to his love Charlotte (the Mouse) and is quite surprises when Charlotte's friend and bridesmaid, Jules, turns out to be Juliet Nelisi. The same Juliet who was always in trouble at school but who was also one of the best friends of his

My Thoughts:

Love Hard was an emotional second chance at romance. Jacob Esera was madly in love with high school sweetheart, Callie, and they had a beautiful daughter together. Shortly after Esme's birth, Callie got bacterial meningitis and passed away. As a single father, and star rugby player, Jacob doesn't have much time for a social life and dating. All of his time is spent on training, and making the most out of quality time with his daughter, and the rest of the tight-knit Esera family.

Love Hard (Hard Play, #3) by Nalini Singh

And also, can the Ezra-Bishop men be real? 'Cuz that'd be awesome.

In Love Hard we finally have the dets on Jacob. Jacob is a single dad to a beautiful little girl, Esme. Jacob and his highschool sweetheart, Callie, ended up being teen parents. Then tragically not long

Love Hard is the third book in the Hard Play series by Nalini Singh, focusing on the third brother, Jacob Esera.

His high school sweetheart and the mother of his 6 year old daughter, Calypso, died shortly after their child was born from meningitis. Jacob has become so focused on his daughter and his profession that he has forgotten how to live.

Nalini Singh is my favorite author and she's the only author I can pick a book without reading the blurb or searching for spoilers. Psy-Changeling is my favorite series and I always go crazy for the next book. And it was without hesitation that I read Love Hard. I loved Charlotte and Gabriel's story (it was my fav in the series) and was so intrigued by Jake not only in Gabe's story but also in Sailor's.

Let me begin with the disclaimer- I received a copy of this book via Netgalley. The opinions expressed are entirely mine.

I requested this book because I loved the cover and the description/ blurb of the book. The Indian name of the author also had its role in me picking up the book. The fact that she was from New Zealand added the interest factor as I had never read a story set in New Zealand.

As I began reading the story I pretty much realised that this book is part of a series but at no point

This isn’t even a hangover situation. This is pure, unadulterated book happiness.

I swear my cheeks hurt from all the stupid, dopey grinning I was doing while reading this baby.

I not only got an amazing second chance at love/frenemies to lovers/single parent romance, but got to spend time with a whole bunch of characters I adore and got to meet more that have me crossing my toes that the author has something up her sleeves for them in the future because I

I've been thinking a lot recently about why romance is satisfying genre. There are the obvious pieces like the comfort of the happily ever after, the familiar tropes - enemies to lovers but I think something that hasn't been evaluated enough is the growth of a community within a familiar story, which when done well is immensely satisfying. Which is a long winded way of saying that Nalini Singh is one of the best at taking familiar tropes and using them to tell big

Y'all. There is no way that I can be objective about this book because my love for the Bishop-Esera family is like, basically the equivalent of my love of my own family, whom I love. In a valiant attempt to set that aside, I still think that this book was basically perfect.

Jake is a single father because his high school girlfriend died not long after giving birth. He is also a star rugby player and he couldn't manage all that he has without the help of his family. When he re-meets Juliet

A gorgeously slow burn between the most unlikely and reluctant of lovers:
Jake “Golden Boy” Esera and Juliet “Bad Influence” Nelisi? Nope. Nope. Triple extra nope.
Jake, a professional rugby player and single dad, has his hands full with his young daughter Esme and busy career. Always the serious worrier of the famous Bishop-Esera rugby family, Jake lives a staid life completely different from that of his high school nemesis, Juliet. But what Jake and Juliet have in common is their bond over the

Ladies and gentlemen, she's done it again.

There's something about Nalini Singh's contemporary romances that are just so real. No powers, no vampires, no shifters - instead, we have an enemies-to-lovers romance story about the importance of family set in my country and peppered with familiar references.

Jacob is a star first five-eighth (hi DC!) with the (unnamed) New Zealand national rugby team (go All Blacks!) who is also a devoted single dad to his adorable daughter Esme. Juliet is a

Jacob Esera is trying to live a mostly quiet life for his six-year-old daughter, as quiet as he can while being a rugby star. He's not interested in drawing extra media attention, all his focus is on the game and being the best dad he can be after the tragic death of his highschool sweetheart that left him a single father. What he's not looking for is someone like Juliet Neilsi, a blast from his past. After a rough childhood, and the loss of her best friend in high school, Juliet wears her ...more

I am a long time fan of Nalini Singh's writing; she continuously creates the most lovable characters. I was over the moon to receive this ARC from NetGalley.

Love Hard tells the story of Jacob Esera, the strait-laced rugby player trying to raise his daughter as a single father after losing his childhood sweetheart, Calypso and Juliet, Calypso's wild and drama magnet best friend. Jacob and Juliet view each other as complete opposites and have a not quite friendship, mostly because of their shared

am obsessed with Nalini Singh's contemporary romance books. Seriously all her books are fantastic, but this series has a special place in my heart. And that is simply because of the Bishop-Esera clan. Obsessed with these rugby boys. It started with Rock Hard with Gabriel and Charlotte's story. Then later we got Sailor Isa. And now finally Jake and Juliet. Rock Hard will probably always be my favorite. I've read it so many times and it is just one book that I can't let go of. But this book!! ...more

I have to admit that when I started the first chapter of Love Hard, I wasn't sure if it was going to be for me. I really shouldn't have worried. The next thing I knew, the time had just flown past and I was engrossed. This was a gripping read, made extra enjoyable for me as it was set here in New Zealand, which is sadly something that I don't come across that often.
This book had some of my favourite elements: A strong female lead, a very sweet male lead, enemies to lovers and baggage that is

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes).
