Soul Burn is not one story by two authors but two novellas (one by each author) with both similarities and differences. They’re both BDSM erotic romances with one of the main characters a shifter.

In Shifting Flames, by Brenda Murphy, Celeste Quon is a recluse writer with a reputation for being difficult who has agreed to work with a screenwriter to bring her bestseller to the screen. Eve Perez is struggling after her ex stole her work and ruined her reputation. When they meet, sparks fly, each r

Soul Burn gives us two novellas by two authors. Shifting Flames by Megan Hart and The Fire Inside by Brenda Murphy have similarities – both are domme/sub relationships where the subs are shifters.

”A mistress, a werewolf, a screenwriter and a shapeshifter walk into your heart in these two sexy paranormal stories of love and redemption.”

In Shifting Flames we have screenwriter Eve Perez, ousted by the industry because of a scandal so she really needs this job. She agrees to take on a time-sensitive

I’ve read a number of novels by Murphy and only one by Hart but I enjoy the way both authors write. Both novellas have shifters and BDSM in common but they’re quite different stories.

Shifting Flames by Brenda Murphy

A bestselling but difficult, reclusive author, Celeste Quon, has given in to the pressure to have one of her novels adapted for the big screen but only if she has full control. Eve Perez finds herself driving into the remote area in a snowstorm because, while this may be the only job

Brenda Murphy's latest is actually a duology which she collaborated with a fellow author, Megan Hart, with their own unique story to tell. I had read some outline of Murphy's story, "Shifting Flames," which she so generously shared when it was still work-in-progress and I was intrigued by the dynamic between the two MCs in a particular situation under a precarious environment. Anyway, so I was looking forward to reading the entire story altogether. However, I had never heard of Megan Hart before ...more

Seductive, Sexy and Sublime
This book contains two stories written by excellent writers. Shifting Flames is written by Brenda Murphy. In this story Eve, a screenwriter who was involved in a scandal has a second chance if she can work with the reclusive and hard to work with author, Celeste. Celeste has a massive secret, and after the two become emotionally and physically entangled, she decided to show Eve and hope for the best… This is a wonderful story full of sexy bits and romance. It is delici

4 stars in all. There are 2 novellas in this book, both shapeshifter stories. The first one was written by Brenda Murphy. This one was about a 3.5 stars for me. It was well written but there was a lot of sex with a storyline that was a little too thin for my taste. Still it was an okay read.
I liked the Second novella by Megan Hart more. This one also was well written and erotic story, but it had a lot more romance and build up of the relationship and happy ending. This story was a 4 star for me

Let me start by saying I love reading about shifters, erotica and BDSM. Soul Burn tends to all those favourites so it is safe to say I loved reading this book. When this is your guilty pleasure too, please don't hesitate to pick this one up, you will enjoy.
The book contains two stories/novellas: Shifting Flames (Brenda Murphy) and The Fire Inside (Megan Hart).

I’m familiar with Murphy’s work and she never fails to satisfy my kink. And after reading Harts novella I'm able to say I like her writin

The first line of the blurb could not be more apt....
A mistress, a werewolf, a screenwriter and a shapeshifter walk into your heart in these two sexy paranormal stories of love and redemption.
These stories are different but similar. How so? Both have shifters, an aspect of each story that's beautifully done.

And both have off the charts, sizzling heat. More than I expected, but not unwanted.

I've read my share of books with BDSM, ranging from mild kink to total power exchange. I'm no expert o

This is a really interesting book - in a good way! To clarify it is a duo of novellas, (not as I first thought a novel written by two authors) featuring kinky shapeshifters and bdsm sex. If this is something you like to read you're in luck because well written lesfic with a D/s dynamic is a rare beast. As for the shapeshifting, even if you think it's not your scene don't let that put you off; Soul Burn's tales deal with that issue in a completely different way to the more 'traditional' lesfic su ...more

This book is just an excuse for smut for middle aged queer ladies, and I can't fault anyone for that. I, personally, did not find it titillating in the least, and instead found the scenes awkward. It's got all the plot of a porn movie and not much else. It has its demographic for sure, but unfortunately I was not one of the ones who enjoyed it. If you're just looking for some sapphic porn and aren't too picky about the writing style, this will work just fine for you. ...more

Brenda Murphy and Megan Hart bring the heat in these two novellas! I have read many of Murphy's romances but this is my first by Hart. Both authors did a good job at giving us some creative stories which include shifters.

Shifting Flames by Murphy is pretty much written like many of her other books. Heavy on the BDSM and quick on the love. Actually this one has a bit more heavy play than I am use to. I was a bit thrown at who would be the Dom and the Sub in this one, but it fits. I liked that Eve

This book contains 2 different shifter stories both have an underlying thread of BDSM. They're unrelated to each other except for the themes. I did like the second better than the first. The shifter subject is present but takes a second place finish to the sub/domme play. Although, I feel this fell short in that aspect, kind of taking buzz words but unfulfilling in actual context. I didn't feel the heat in the relationships it felt to me more transactional.

All in all, I give 3.25 stars for this

Two sexy shifter stories in one, both deep and a great treat

What was the book about?
Soul Burn is like the perfect deal. We got two different novellas written by two very talented writers in one book.

Shifting Flames written by Brenda Murphy.
Eve Perez a known screenwriter is struggling with the fallout of losing her credibility and reputation after being played by her ex. Now to reclaim her good name, she takes a job with a renowned author who isn’t known to be easy to work with. Celeste Quon is

Two authors, one I am familiar with, the other I have not previously read. The paranormal genre is new for Murphy, so I was not entirely sure what to expect but I really like her style of writing, the diversity of the characters she creates and the stories she builds around them. Bottom line—I was in.

Shifting Flames by Brenda Murphy to me was one of ‘passions’. Murphy created highly creative, powerful characters in their own right who were dynamically drawn to one another by their own inner pass

A pair of shape-shifter novellas. Both with BDSM, D/s. Both in which the physically stronger shifter is the submissive to a human partner. Though both stories were well-written, I liked the first better than the second. And as is often the case with novellas, I was left wanting more.

In the first story, tiger-shifter Celeste lives a hermit life up in the Colorado mountains. She is an author whose novel is being turned into a movie. Eve Perez is a screen-writer who is desperate for a job. So desp

Soul Burn was an awesome read. There are two stories here that are both excellent. First is Shifting Flames that Brenda Murphy really did well. Both Celeste and Eve have challenges ahead of them and each must learn to trust each other. I thought the story was well written and has a hot, steamy factor that Murphy is know for and you get an awesome story. I thought it was interesting that Celeste was the sub in this story and that it does work well. I also liked the ending.

Ok, I am going to be totally honest, this is not my cup of tea. I has no idea this was fantasy so it was a little hard for me to wrap my head around. The writing was clear and concise. Easy to follow and the story had a nice flow. Eve and Celeste's Screen writer and author relationship is built on the secret that Celeste is keeping. After emotions and things get physical Celeste makes a decision to share with Eve, letting fate decide. The Second book is the story of Clara and Selena, a domme and ...more

Not bad, not bad, but it didn't exactly hit all my sweet spots. I enjoyed the first story more than the second story. It felt like there was more urgency, more heat, more yearning and want, and that's what I loved about it. The characters almost felt desperate to be with each other but the obstacles, albeit, kind of dumb, small obstacles that could be moved, were in the way and ultimately prevented them from expressing themselves, verbally and physically. Of course, they ended up together, and w ...more

Both of these novellas were hot and sexy and a bit surprising. I didn't expect in the first, Shifting Flames, for the shifter to be submissive. In my fantasy or paranormal reading experience, they're all strong tops/dommes. But it worked, as did the romance. The same is true of the second story as well. This was more overtly domme/sub because the first setting was in a BDSM club where we're introduced to both characters, and some of their motivation. I liked the turning point with a minor charac ...more

Soul burn is two erotic novellas that are FF and the shifter is the submissive partner. Both stories are very similar in that the age range is mid to late 30s , FF and BDSM elements. I think both stories could have been better presented and better developed. The story with Celeste if they had finished the plot would have been really really good but the focus because heavily on the FF aspect which felt disconnected.,. the same could be said of the 2nd story I just don't feel the 2nd story had a b ...more

Holy cow! This book burned up my Kindle Fire! You two should chat more often, if this type of book is what you come up with! Great characters and storylines. Oh, and by the way, do not read this one in public. The squirming in your seat and bright red blushing may be a bit embarrassing! ☺️ Pick this one up, but be sure to have some ice water handy, to drink or pour over your head. You’ve been warned😉😏

This set of novellas was an interesting and sexy read. Both stories were well written by the respective authors and I felt the fantasy content was exciting. The erotic content was fiery. All in all a great read. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love shifter stories, so I really enjoyed this book.

Two authors, two stories, two shifters coming from two different perspectives. One shifter who has embraced her nature, the other learning to embrace hers, throw in a D/s dynamic, it makes for two very interesting shifter stories.

A fun sexy romp. Would have liked it to be longer. Great characterisation and settings, a little light on stakes.

Book 1 would have been better I think if it was a novel. It felt rushed for me, so couldn’t feel it. Book 2 was better, but the end dragged to much for me. So 3,5 stars

Wow! I'm not normally a fan of shifters or paranormal, but I AM a fan of Brenda Murphy. This is a two-story set, similar in that both feature submissive shifters and a fairly heavy dose of BDSM with racially diverse characters. I thought each story was the perfect length and was able to get through them each in one sitting. It was everything I expected from Brenda Murphy, but I wasn't familiar with Megan Hart since she doesn't "live" in the LGBTQ world. I will definitely recommend her writing to ...more
