I think I've found a new author to follow! Don't you love it when that happens? I know I do!
Before reading this, you can read Cold Light and the tiny novellas in this universe since characters were referred to. I hadn't read them but it didn't bother me too much because the author gave briefs about each of their relationships so it was smooth sailing. I will however be reading Cold Light whenever I can.
Back To the story, I enjoyed it. It was simple and straightforward with low angst and some steam. It suited my current mood perfectly.It obviously had some violence(it's an MC Club book duh lol) but nothing too over the top. As I said, I enjoyed it.
I'll definitely be reading any more additions to the series.
Now off I go to read Michelle Frost's backlog! Wish me luck!

This is a hard one for me to rate. I liked both Mace and Pax, as well as the secondary characters. The plot was pretty standard but the way the romance played out, due to Pax’s previous violent attack, was at a slower pace and was just the right amount of sexy and sweet. The way these two were with each other was pretty great. No TSTL moments or unnecessary relationship angst here. That’s a big plus.
But what drove me crazy was the writing style. There were so many times I had to go back and reread several entire pages to figure out what was happening. The author tends to start new chapters or scenes with absolutely no context. Things are described in reverse, like a “time-jump and recap” style, but sometimes there’s so much information being explained that when the “recap” is over I had often forgotten where the characters were actually at now. I was majorly confused as to what was happening and when, more than a few times. It took me out of the story way too much. I really liked this authors Carry and Drag series, so this was frustrating.
Overall, I’m wanting to see what comes next in this series. I just hope the “recaps” are at a minimum because, IMO, they feel like lazy writing. And not to mention unnecessary, as the recaps were just as lengthy as it would have been to just continue the timeline and naturally include them in it, instead of skipping back and forth.

After meeting Pax and Mace in COLD LIGHT I was interested in their story and overall DISRUPT was a quick and easy read. This one doesn't stand out for me but I did like it. I also enjoyed both Pax and Mace and they make a really sweet couple. Mace is super protective and just what Pax needs to feel safe after his kidnapping. If you're looking for a short read with a bit of action and suspense and minimal relationship drama then DISRUPT is a great choice.

This is not a standalone. At all. There are three (3!) novellas floating around, two of which seem to be critical to reading this.
First: the listed series prequel, Discord. I always miss these existing, but if its a standalone like the blurb says, that shouldn’t matter. It does.
Second: Cold Light - part of the Criminal Delights series. Not connected on Goodreads. A friend read (tried to read) it and gave me the heads up, otherwise I never would have found it.
Third: Make Snow Mistake - this one I’m not sure is required to read before Disrupt, but it seems like you need to read this universe to understand it.
In summary: the connections are a mess, and this is not a standalone.
But wait, I have more. Specifics, I mean.
The 30 side characters:
As soon as like 20 side characters were introduced, as couples, with dramatic backstories, I got suspicious. These characters have clear Other Book energy. There’s so many people I don’t know, and introducing them by their previous-book backstories is meaningless as a first time reader, and the sheer number of them means I forget them immediately.
The missing backstory for these characters
Adding insult to injury, it turns out the inciting, important Plot Event - MC1 being kidnapped and tortured I think - happens in another book. The most we get is a little snippet in the beginning, where MC2 sees MC1s injuries (unexplained to reader) and is like “I’m gonna kill the man who did this to you” blah blah whatever I don’t know you people so this is just weird, you don’t know each other so this is weird (or do they? did they meet before, maybe in a previous book and not shown here, in this standalone novel?)
Overall, the writing style was sort of meh to me, and nothing terrible or offensive had happened as of when I quit the book. If it had truly been a standalone, I would have kept reading, but I’m not about to track down three books so I can then return to the book I already started.

This is book one in the series but I feel it’s best read after reading Cold Light to get the full background.
Mace is the Iron Heretics sergeant-at-Arms and someone who brings a sense of safety to Pax who is dealing with the traumatic aftermath of being kidnapped. Mace is completely protective over Pax and plans to carry out the promise he made to him -- at whatever cost. Romance wise the two are extremely sweet and kept me rooting for their get together despite the slowness of the story.
Overall, Disrupt was an enjoyable book. There were a few times I felt it dragged but like I said the sweetness between the two mcs made it worth it.

First, this DOES NOT standalone. At all. Everything about the plot of this story and the growth of the characters connects and continues from, I assume, another book featuring what are now side characters. So I was very lost and missing something when previous events were references or characters were introduced in connection to that event. I wish that had been clear before I started reading it so be warned. Now, once I figured out what happened and how everyone was related and whatnot, the story itself is very good. I enjoyed the romance and how the characters slowly came together and really thought and made sure it's what they wanted, together. It's honestly, kind of fluffy. There's a few action scenes and whatever they were fine, and added some excitement. But the climax? Kind of doesn't. It just suddenly ends. Maybe it's savage of me, but I kind of wanted more. Still, I'm not mad I read it and I did like the characters and romance. I'd be interested in more of this series (and the previous related books).

I wasn’t really invested at first with this couple, I was ready to give up but it did intrigue me. A quarter of the way in the book took off. It took me a little bit to get used to this authors style of writing. Chapters would start with new scenes and the previous ones were not concluded. But eventually you’d get a wrap up as one of the characters thoughts. A good read indeed.

You know, I think this was actually kinda sweet. Within the time after both Pax and Mace have been hurt, they had the opportunity to slowly know each other better, to easily get under each other's skin. I liked the fact there was no urgency to do the deed, if you know what I mean. Instead there was so much tenderness, gentle touches, and acceptance of the fact they've found the perfect man to trust their hearts to.
They obviously needed the peace they found in each other's arms, because their lives were still in danger. I liked the way the author kept the suspense going, although I was sorry to see Leith caught up in the middle of it and hurt. I feared for them, but all the ''brothers" have been just as amazing as I've grown to know them, jumping into danger, ready to do everything in their power to help.
I love the group of people Michelle Frost has written for the Iron Heretics and their friends. Counting Pax and Mace, I think there are four wonderful romances, four couples already formed within their ranks. Can't wait for the next one, and all my fingers are crossed, hoping it'll be daddy Axel and Leith's turn.

What a great start to the Iron Heretics MC series. We did get introduced to Pax and Mace in the Cold Light Assassins Criminal Delights Book 14.
In this well written book their likeable characters are developed much further and we get to know more about the former escort Pax and the Sergeant At Arms Mace.
Theirs is a slow burn affair as Pax is still recovering from a life changing event 12 months earlier. Lots of tender kisses and heartwarming moments are shared between them, and of course, after a few bumps along the way they get their HEA.
I found this to be a really enjoyable, engaging read with all the elements of a biker MC, great main characters and interesting and intriguing side characters setting the scene for more Iron Heretics MC stories. I’m really looking forward to more!

This was an okay book, although pretty fast-paced and underdeveloped in some parts. What bugged me most about it was that it's listed as the first in a series and a standalone, when this wasn't really the case in my opinion. There are tons of side characters and couples that I didn't care about since I had no emotional connection to any of them, and it felt like the reader was assumed to know the characters, including the MC:s, from previous books. Not even the big event that one of the MC:s went through and that pushed the MC:s closer together is shown, other than a hint of it in the prologue, since it took place in a previous book. This is probably a more enjoyable read if you've read the previous books in this universe, but as a standalone it was confusing and underwhelming to me.

Swoons all around
“I’ll stay as long as you like.” I’d live forever with these guys if I could. I love, love, love the Iron Heretics! What a tremendous and amazing family they are. They’re also wonderfully generous and protective of the ones they care about. They all make swoon so hard, especially Mace and Pax. These two are sweet, tender and have smoking hot chemistry that will make you melt. Add in a few suspenseful twists from the sneaky but talented Michelle Frost and you have a book that you won’t be able to put down. I devoured this and ooh, I am so looking forward to Calix’s story. If it goes the way I think, it’s gonna be a doozie. Don’t be a lone wolf. Read this series now.

Possible triggers: torture, beatings, abuse, kidnapping, and such.
I love this club. Now there is a certain order to these, and I don’t remember the exact order, but look up Iron Heretics MC Universe and it should show all four of the books. One is a Valentine’s Inc book and I forget the other one. Anyway, they all deal with the Heretic club and get the ball rolling on it so you can start meeting all the characters. And now we are officially in the midst of it all. These are not easy stories. Being in a biker club usually isn’t. And those involved as well. There are things that happen that come with being a part of it and sometimes it gets really bad. Hence, the warnings. But what I love about these stories, is even though there are some mega tragedies, the theme is strength and love and support. That is the good thing about being with a good MC club. Everyone has each other’s backs no matter what. Even the newbies. It’s all about family, in their way, and it’s an important thing.
Pax was found one afternoon, after a bad thing with the club, by Mace at his home, bleeding and in pain. Mace knew there was trouble but he had no idea how bad it was until he went to help patch Pax up and he made a vow that Pax would never be hurt again. It started sort of an on/off again thing with them, just as friends. Because of what happened to Pax and Mace’s own past, neither were in a hurry to jump into relationships, at least until it came to each other. Little by little, they started talking more, but it wasn’t until one night, Pax finally felt somewhat comfortable enough to just sleep beside Mace. And it started a whole new thing with them. Mace had finally fulfilled his vow and things seemed to be going better, until Pax saw a ghost from his past. Mace knowing it couldn’t be the same person, began to fear what this meant. And when Leith was taken, and then Pax, they knew they had to get to the bottom quick. But would they get to them both in time or not? And would Pax relapse even more?
I hate that people abuse power. I felt for Pax so much. The things he had to endure and the torture he had to go through because people are either nuts or power hungry, just makes me so upset. But what I love about Mace, is even being wounded himself, he was going to protect Pax, even if all they ever were was friends. He was family and you don’t mess with family. But I hate that they also, both, had to go through what they did with their pasts. Sometimes our pasts make us better in a sense, because we vow not to be like the ones we were around. But sometimes it can work against us as well, because it causes us to close off to others we should have close. But thankfully, these two recognized in each other the chemistry they had. Even as friends. They were there for each other in ways no one else ever was. They shared things that not many or no one else knew. Because they knew they could depend on the other. I love these two. I hate what they had to go through, but I love that they haven’t totally given up. Pax has been close, but with his friends and family behind him, he’s pulled himself together and moved forward. It may be baby steps, but he keeps trying. And Mace keeps holding him up.
Like I said, it’s not an easy story. But it’s a good one. I love these guys and how they are family. And they protect what is theirs. They walk into the face of danger many times over to protect the family, even if it means they die in the process. They will fight for what’s right and true and heaven help anyone who steps in their way. I can’t wait to see who’s next.

Disrupt features two main characters associated with the Iron Heretics Motorcycle Club who are dealing with relationship and trust issues due to different family circumstances from their youth / childhood. Their understandable hesitation to let themselves get drawn into anything serious leads to a very sweet slow burn, which is kind of unusual in books set in an MC universe. There are other aspects of the book which also challenge the biker book stereotypes. For example, there isn't actually a lot of 'club business' taking place on the page...the narrative is very much focused on the growing bond between Mace and Pax. Also, Mace - the Heretic's Sergant-at-Arms - isn't just the big, brash character some might expect him to be. He is hugely protective, nurturing and very sensitive; as well as being a badass when he needs to be.
Pax is also a well-rounded character with genuine hopes and fears, striving to re-gain a sense of self and forge a future for himself (with and without Mace), whilst dealing with both recent and older traumas.
The plot here isn't an original concept, but it is well executed. There's just the right amount of action and 'threat' to balance out to sweetness of the romance and at the same time keeping the angst levels down. That's a tricky writing feat to accomplish, but Michelle Frost managed it...big thumbs-up from me for that.
Whilst Disrupt is a stand-alone novel, many of the supporting cast have appeared in previous works. There's no real impact if, like me, you've read the two works Arden and Lex and Eben and Cody feature in (Cold Light and Make Snow Mistake About It respectively), but I think readers who come to Disrupt first might struggle a little with the amount of page time the other couples get. I would recommend reading the other books first.
All in all, Disrupt is a very good read, with super likeable characters. 4*

I am really enjoying the Iron Heretics MC and the world Michelle Frost has created. I would highly recommend reading, Cold Light before you start Disrupt. It will give your greater insight into the two main characters, Pax and Mace. As well as the rest of the crew.
The Iron Heretics MC can be ruthless, but only when provoked. They are more of a do-good bunch rather then a pack of heathens. When necessary, they get the job done! They may be tough as nails, but they are equally as tender, especially when it comes to their men. They are all extremely yummy.
Mace and Pax's attraction started in Cold Light. After Pax was abducted and tortured the Iron Heretics and Mace came to his rescue. Months later and Pax is still battling his demons and fears, but Mace is right there to support him. I loved how this big bad biker turned into mush when it came to Pax. He was always so patient and gentle with him. Slowly gaining Pax's trust.
I really enjoyed how their relationship progressed. I felt their undeniable chemistry and mutual respect. Michelle did a great job keeping the suspense and danger swirling around their budding romance.
For a short book there was a lot going on. Some of the story line could have delved deeper and been more fleshed out. I especially wanted to know more about the Pax and Mace's unfortunate past, the MC's dealings, as well as the other biker's relationships. Call me greedy, I just wanted more, more, more! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. Humm, Leith and Axel have me intrigued!

Disrupt by Michelle Frost is the first book in the Iron Heretics Mc series. I loved it. I loved this book, the characters and the universe. I loved the plot, and even if the event didn’t happen in this book, I didn’t have any difficulties to follow. It was well written; Pax and Mace are wonderful together. It’s not the stereotype damsel in distress who need to be rescue. Even if Pax is traumatized, he isn’t weak, and Mace didn’t treat it like a biker babe or little princess. I loved that.
The secondary characters were awesome, and I look forward to reading more about them.

Moving story of strength, love and claiming a loving future. I really loved these characters and how they really treated each other with kindness, thoughtfulness and tenderness. Writing is great and the story-line flowed. I am so enjoying the Iron Heretics universe.
Pax and Mace are all things amazing. They are steamy, caring, creative and fun.They took their time to come together physically. Mace is this big amazing man who will do what it takes to protect those he chooses as family. Paz had been though torture and he grew up having no one to trust nor care for him. Needing to learn that Mace will choose him and be there for him was a beautiful journey.

I have been waiting for this series since reading the free short novella of Cleave and J.J. and I freakin loved it. I fell in love with all the guys in Lex and Ardens story Cold Light. I am so excited that the Iron Heretics are getting their HEAs even if they are painful journeys to get to them. This is a well written story, it is part of a series and you could probably read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the other stories starting with Cold Light so you know everyone’s backstory. I can’t wait to see who is next ...hopefully Axel and Leith

This is my first Michelle Frost book. I'm impressed. I like the protective Alpha trope, and motorcycle clubs. This is well written and interesting, it kept me engaged in the story. I never felt like the pacing was too slow. I'm already interested in looking up more books by this author.
Mace has the whole protective ex-military thing going on. Pax is recovering from a brutal abduction. They're very sweet together. Moderate heat.

I'm totally binging this series. There are 3 prequels before this one. Each is relatively short but blends elements of the others. You can check in with your favorite characters without them taking over.
Pax was tortured because of Arden. It happened in the beginning. Thank god there weren't details. It happened, Pax had trouble moving past it. The story centered on Pax's recovery as well as Macy's role.
The romance sprinted along a little too quickly with time gaps at each chapter. IT still felt real despite the fast fwd pace.

This is the official first book in the series, but based on the fact that I had that feeling of walking mid movie and not getting half the background, I think it's best to guide yourself based on the "universe" series list than just the iron heretics books.
It was enjoyable. I got enough context clues to understand most of what happened before (I'll have to get the other two universe books later to fill the blanks). It was exciting, with plenty of hot scenes.

Interesting
This was a rather fast paced story. I did not read any of the other stories so at times I found myself asking "why, or how?" But otherwise it was easy to read and characters were likeable enough!
