I have to say that Bear Was There was a really cute book. I loved how the authors included different feelings throughout the book about being loved, happy, and scarred. Throughout Mouses’ childhood, his mother always warned him about Bear and how he should always be careful because he would be around. When Mouse was old enough to be on his own, one day he saw Bear, but Bear didn’t seem as scary as what he thought. Absolutely a favourite for both Ada and myself. We loved that everyone is always afraid of Bear, but little Mouse showed that sometimes people/animals aren’t always what you are told they are. Sometimes, you need to give them a chance yourself because they might be just as scared and along, and will provide a friendship you never thought possible. It is a beautiful story and has illustrations to match.
Such a poignant book at this moment in our history. Yes, our parents may have bias but we do not have to adhere to them. Just because you are told someone is scary, it is up to you to din out. I enjoyed the message in this book.
