How could a world so cruel and inhumane exist?

Little did I know the one-time-job I’d taken would plunge me into a world filled with mob ties and illegal activities or bring me face to face with the woman of my dreams. Isla Chambers was a blinding vision wrapped in Kevlar and topped in a baseball cap with FBI stitched on it.

With the sexy Isla working by my side, I gladly offered my assistance as the FBI’s only tether in uncovering this operation.
Besides, this could launch my career even further so refusing wasn’t an option.
The risk seemed small … or so I thought.
Not only did it expose Isla to danger, it also placed a huge target on my back.

It wasn’t long before I was drowning in unimaginable darkness.
How could a world so cruel and inhumane exist?
Days and nights merged until I was nothing but broken fragments.
The beautiful face that had brought me so much joy, was stolen from memory as I surrendered to the blackness now ruling my soul.
That carefree, innocent young man was beaten out of existence.
In his place, only an empty shell remained.

Until the day Isla walked back into my crumbling reality.
Was I too lost for that dream to live on?
If she still wanted me, I knew one thing.
I wasn’t worthy of her purity anymore.

~ 5 Alpha Acer Stars ~

HOLY COW!!! A.M. Hargrove has knocked this one out of the park. I was all in from the very beginning and this story didn't let me go until the very end, and even then she has me hanging on for the next book in the Kent Brothers Series!!!

This book was such a rollercoaster of emotions. I was happy one minute and then my world was torn apart. Without giving to much away....just know that your heart will go through a lot while reading this book, but in the end it all works out and will leave you smiling.

I am not going to spoil the storyline for anyone, but I will say that this book is a spin off of One Blissful Night (West Sister Series). One Blissful Night is a complete standalone novel, but Annie leaves us hanging in the epilogue. I have to be honest and say, I totally forgot about that lead in to Acer until I started this book. You don't have to read that book before starting Acer....this is a complete standalone novel, but you will see some past characters in this story. Acer's story starts off right where the epilogue ended. I couldn't imagine how his story was going to play out!! It was both Amazing and heartbreaking in one story.

This is the story of Acer and Isla. It is told in Dual POV and is a complete standalone, but it does have a lead in to the next story in the epilogue. A.M. Hargrove does leave some unanswered questions in this book, which I am guessing will be answered in the next two books!!

If you are looking for an amazing romance novel that will take you out of your comfort zone, without being to graphic, but also love a suspense story that will keep you guessing then this is one to add to your TBR list. Definitely 1-click this book when it releases.

I have read books that were emotional roller coasters, this book was more like putting your emotions into a space shuttle and your emotions are sent careening through outer space.

I was in love and swooning so hard for Acer, within pages I was all in. He and Isla were absolute perfection. I don't want to give anything away so I will only say prepare yourself for swooning, heartbreak, a hurricane of all the feels, while these characters go through hell to find the happily ever after we all dream about.

I am beyond excited for what's to come

Acer is just drifting through life with no direction. He’s got just a few months to figure things out before his parents cut him off. He ends up taking a job for a friend hauling a mysterious package. Things don’t feel right, so when he opens it he gets the shock of his life.

Isla, an FBI agent gets the call. She’s beautiful, driven and dedicated to her job. This is the kind of case that becomes life changing.

Everything is complicated. Acer got involved with the wrong people and now they want their package. It’s Isla’s job to protect him. The only problem is, she’d rather get him naked.

Their attraction is instant, but they need to focus on finding the bad guys. Things are a lot more complicated than they originally thought. The corruption runs deep and now Acer’s life is in danger.

Just when you can’t imagine things getting worse, they do. Isla won’t give up. She wants justice. She’ll never stop until everyone is safe and she takes down every criminal involved in the case.

A story that is action packed. It’s emotional and full of plot twists I did not see coming. Acer was strong, resilient and a fighter. He may have been lost at times, but he found his own way. Isla was persistent and determined. She never gave up hope. She wasn’t going to let the criminals win or steal anything more from her.

Wrought with sexual tension, great chemistry, many emotionally charged moments and unexpected twists, this story will take you on a journey. Buckle up, because the ride is intense! This is romance, suspense and drama all in one sexy story.

When I first saw the blurb, I honestly was unsure if I would like ACER since it was about the mob. It’s a topic that has never interest me. However, I was excited that it was Brax’s baby brother - Yes, please!! Plus, I’ve always loved suspense and to add romance is another bonus! Well, let me just say that I loved this book!!

I love the instant attraction between Isla and Acer. I love how their relationship unfolds and the suspense is great! This book makes you feel for the characters. In fact, it has all the feels - happiness, sadness, suspense, and horror to name a few. My heart ached for Isla and I was anxious for Acer. Warning: There are some serious issues included that will weigh heavy on your heart. You may need some tissues or read alone!

This book is told in a dual POV and a complete standalone. As always, the epilogue leaves you speechless and ready for more. Did I really just read that??!!

Annie, this book is worth 5 stars! It is apparent that you poured every ounce into this masterpiece!

Acer is an average guy, without a life plan, but his whole carefree existence suddenly changes in a night when he accepts an easy job from a friend.
He has to pick up a trailer at Savannah’s port and drive it to Atlanta, but when the situation appears too unclear and muddy he decides to take a look into the trailer and there he finds out he was into a big trouble and a dangerous position so he calls the FBI.

Isla is a good agent, her excellent job and work ethic speak for her into the almost entirely male dominated world of the FBI.

From that night on Acer and Isla lives are tied, thanks to the chemistry and physical attraction they instantly have for each other and the troubles that keep chasing them.
Will they survive to all the dangers and all kinds of abuses scattered on their way or will they succumb?

This story is thrilling, suspenseful, dreadful and romantic. The author did a good job mixing and balancing everything perfectly.

I highly recommend to read it because I liked Acer so much and with an epilogue like that I can’t wait to get next book of the series.

When I started Acer I had no idea really what I was in for…son of nutcracker, this book was fabulous.

We get taken into a dark world that honestly most of us will never know, but Ms. Hargrove makes you feel like you know it first hand. Acer and Isla were so good together, their chemistry is off the chart hot, and they fit together so good. It’s an intense and heartbreaking story with danger around every corner. You will run through so may emotions, but their story won’t let you go until the end.

I don’t know where to start. This book cut me wide open. It tore me apart, then put me completely back together again. A deeply emotional and intensely thrilling ride into and out of the darkness. I laughed and I cried. It touches on some very real, very disturbing real life situations, so grab your tissues and prepare yourself.

Acer and Isla were AMAZING!!!! The adventures that these two endured, the heart stopping moments made for an exciting read. These two met in the strangest of circumstances. They started out as friends and slowly things progressed to more. They were a power duo with her being a bit more stronger than him in my opinion lol. They were some sad moments and they were lots of omg moments but I felt like I was reading an actual movie and I loved it. Now with that epilogue I’m intrigued to what will happen next.

ACER by AM. Hargrove is the story of Acer and Isla.
Acer takes a job that isn't on the up and up. Which he ends up looking into and finding that out which leads him to Isla. Isla is a FBI agent who has to fight her way through her job in the man dominated world. Acer is sort of the black sheep of his family but he is still out to prove himself. When these two meet their is a instant attraction but they have to work together which leads them to danger, especially Acer. Acer ends up in a life changing situation. This is action pack..enjoyed this book.

Omg!!! I ❤❤❤ Acer!!

I cannot express just how much I loved Acer... it was such a beautiful book. All of Annie's books are just beautifully written, with a wonderful story. A few have such tragic moments, but I love how the characters overcome the tragedy. In this book, Acer had such a horrible experience that I just couldn't help but cry at times. Acer was helping out a friend for some cash and picked up some cargo from a ship. Since he didn't get paid like he was supposed to, he decided to help himself to some of the merchandise ... and did he ever get the surprise of his life when he opened the back of the truck. He had been transporting women for trafficking. He called the FBI to come out and assist but this started a dark and dangerous path for Acer. He did however meet Isla, who is not only his brothers best friends little sister, but also one bad a$$ FBI agent. Together they try to figure out the human trafficking ring, but it starts to become VERY dangerous for anyone who gets involved. Can Acer overcome what was done to him and still be what Isla wants??

Omg.. omg.. omg. I just felt so horrified reading what Acer went thru. The book was so well written, I could almost feel the pain that both Acer and Isla went through. I can't tell you just how wonderful I thought this book was. It does have some dark, dark moments that I would never wish on my worst enemy, but it has a HEA!

I give this book ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!

I recieved an ARC for my honest review.

Acer and Isla... their story is breathtakingly exciting. Fast-paced ... with events unfolding at breakneck speed ...

Both characters are intriguing, lovable and profound ...

Acer's story made me cry so often because of the ugly and terrible things he had to go through. Sometimes it was terrible to read about what happened to him, heartbreaking, soul-crushing, horrific ... even if it was only implied. But then there was beauty, too. When he met Isla, when he decided what he wanted to do with his future, and, after everything went down, when he met Will and James ...
And Isla? She's the woman you want in your corner, tough and caring, empathetic and driven ...
When they meet ... whooza! There are sparks flying, there is electricity and a heat that almost burned my e-reader ...

This is a story about every high and low imaginable in life, about a love as deep as the ocean and as pure as freshly fallen snow. A story that will keep you on the edge of your seat and shatter your heart and soul, written in Mrs. Hargrove's very own writing style, which I admire!

I read an advance copy for an honest review.
First off, I love how all of the books are somehow interconnected.

Acer is Brax's baby brother. He is sort of the black sheep of the family, even though he has a good heart. He is asked, by a friend to do a job, which will pay him a lot of money. When he doesn't get paid upfront, he decides to take a part of the the shipment as collateral. When he opens the trailer, he is shocked by his discovery.

Isla works for the FBI. She is also connected to Brax. Her brother plays football with him and she is good friends with Reynolds. She is tough as nails and has to prove her place in a "man's world". She gets the call to investigate what is in the trailer that Acer opened.

This is unlike any story that I have previously read by the author. Besides the Insta-love story between Acer and Isla, is a complicated story about the underworld of crime, not knowing who to trust and heartache and heartbreak. It also gives you faith in some parts of humanity and a great love story.

The moment I started reading this book I was completely hooked. Acer was an emotional, twisted wild ride that is just getting started.

I love Isla. How can you not love a female FBI agent? She is pretty BA. She is a fighter. She doesn’t give up. Despite heartache and pain she still continues to fight. Acer is the youngest in his family, the baby. He always felt that he wasn’t enough to his family, especially compared to his brothers. From the moment they met Isla and Acer’s lives were connected and not just romantically, but in every single aspect. Their connection was instant and their chemistry was on fire. However, their relationship was not always easy and completely broke me a few times.

Acer isn’t your typical romance. This book is DEEP. It is emotional. It is captivating. It is gripping. This book will consume you. This book was difficult to read at times just because I was so overcome with emotions. It brings forth a true issue that many people may not always think of.

This one is a MUST READ and a TOP READ of 2020 for me. I can’t wait to see what is coming next for this new series!

Acer Kent is the stereotypical baby of the family. He is more interested in fun and hanging out in the here and now than planning for an independent future and a career. He knows how to play his parents to get more time to grow up—until now. His parents are ready to pull out their tough love and kick him out on his own. While Acer is thinking about what to do, a friend calls about a temp job. He needs a shipment of computer parts picked up and delivered to his warehouse. This is the perfect job for Acer, good pay for a little investment of time. He can make a little money to get into a place of his own, while he thinks about how to continue his carefree life.

Acer begins to question this job when he gets to the dock. Everything about the pickup feels fishy and cloak and dagger, instead of a legitimate business deal. His call to Paulie, the friend who recommended the job, doesn’t calm his concerns. The farther Acer travels up the highway, his memory of his conversations with Paulie niggle at him. He thinks that Paulie is going to cheat him out of his pay. He pulls over to check the cargo to grab some parts for insurance, and finds he isn’t carrying what he thought. He calls his sister-in-law for help then he contacts the FBI and all hell breaks loose.

This is Isla and Acer’s story. Isla is the lead FBI agent assigned to the case. Quickly the FBI team realizes that Acer needs protection and sets him up in a safe house with Isla and her team. It turns out that Isla is the best friend of Acer’s older brother. Their tale is told from their dual points of view putting the reader in each character’s head as the fun, pain, heartache, and resolution unfolds. Ms. Hargrove keeps the reader invested in the relationship while they battle throw the danger surrounding them.

The first forty percent of the story is getting to know Isla, Acer, and their families. It is a sweet, fun distraction mixed in with the FBI investigation into the illegal activities in which Acer is embroiled. I enjoyed the banter among the brothers and Acer’s parents. It is obvious that this is a tight family. Isla and Acer’s relationship turns steamy while they try to remain professional. Then it feels like Isla makes some rookie moves that does not make sense for “the favorite top FBI agent” on her team. More than once during these middle chapters I did major eye-rolls. I understand it is the author setting up the climax, but it didn’t feel real to me.

Acer takes a dark turn and becomes very intense half-way through. As the suspense heats up, my stomach does a few flips. I like dark. The author takes care to hint at some sick behavior without any detailed description. My heart hurts for this couple, but then there is a subsequent loss that feels unnecessary. I am not sure why the author went down that path. Even when the couple shares their life events later, it feels brushed over to me. It is like, life happens and they both more forward. It makes me question why, again. In the end, Acer wraps up nicely, with a hint at what will happen in the second book in this series. Acer is a good beginning to the A.M. Hargrove’s new Kent Brothers series.

Having been a huge fan of this author for some time now, getting this book was a huge unique ride written by her. I ADORED the concept. My mind is blown at the depth and the heart that she wrote into this story. Plus with how it is completely intertwined with her last two previous series, perfection! Acer has been the black sheep of the family if you will. Always messing up. No focus. Could never compete with his brothers and their success. But a life changing moment gives him such drive and passion. I think that is what I love about Acer. He was driven when he felt his calling. Then you have Isla. She is a no nonsense girl who loves her job and wants to save the world essentially and I loved her for it. She has a pure heart of gold.
Overall, between the concept of this story, the romance intertwined, I could not put it down once I started. You could really feel the immense passion that the author has for this top and righting the wrongs in the world. My heart broke at moments because of the topic of this story. But the grit and determination of both Acer and Isla made it stunning. Their passion for each other, beautiful. Another amazing story by Hargrove!

Get ready for a rollercoaster of a ride because this one is a bumpy one. Acer is filled with suspense, intense drama, action and just enough romance to keep you turning those pages in glee.

Acer is letting life pass him by, yes, he’s living, but not without a guiding goal or compass. That all changes when he sees something that changes his life forever and launches him into a world of danger and mystery, he is wildly unprepared for. When he takes a job to help a friend to deliver an unknown package and ends up seeing more than any nobody like himself is meant to, well let’s just say that Acer is in for a rude awakening for what is coming next.

Isla, badass FBI agent, ready to take on any criminal that comes her way is driven, beautiful and a work-a-holic. Nothing stops her from getting her man, and this case is one that she can’t let go. When Acer life is on the line, Isla is tasked with protecting him. Now this sound cut and dry…at first. Then Isla meets Acer, and she can’t decide which she wants more, to keep him safe from that bad guys or to give in to the sexual thoughts she has about the man.

The chemistry and attraction between Acer and Isla is instant and strong, but to get the bad guys Isla needs a clear head and to keep things as simple as they can be. Fat chance of that happening.
With plot twist that you never see coming, action packed scenes and hot stolen moments, this book can be read as a standalone. Get ready for the journey of a lifetime fellow readers!

Omg I loved this book! It started out with some mystery and then BAM the unexpected happened. I smiled and laughed a bit and my heart also broke and I cried.
"How could a world so cruel and inhuman exist?"
Acer is such a sweet good man with a bit of alphaness to him. What he endured was gut wrenching, yet he came out on top.
Ilsa is loving and so stubborn and never lost site of what or who she wanted, no matter how much she was pushed away.
I loved Ilsa and Acer together, they made such a great team and the sexual chemistry between them was HOT. This book touches a very sensitive topic, but A.M. Hargrove wrote it so well.

I don’t even know where to start. I was hooked from the first paragraph and before I knew it, the book was over. AM Hargrove has a talent for pulling you in and building characters that you will never forget. I’m stupidly excited for the next book!

I will admit the storyline was a bit hard for me to take. It is very difficult but hang in there. Your emotions will be all over the place and you’ll come to the end with a new perspective. You will feel everything!

This is the story of Acer and Isla. She is an FBI agent and well they meet when Acer takes a job he shouldn’t have. This meeting leads them to fall in love and becoming a target from some pretty nasty criminals. Their journey is beautiful and horrible and you won’t forget about it anytime soon. I don’t want to say much so as not to spoil it for you.

So there are characters in this book from previous books that I did not read but I was not lost at all. Acer can and does standalone.

This is indeed an action-packed romance novel that will take you places you sometimes don’t want to go but it will all be worth it.!!

Acer was a suspenseful, interesting read with likable characters!
You will fall for both main characters and enjoy their families, too!

Acer is sexy, brooding and charming!! Swoon. Swoon-- but probably want to smack him upside the head... LOL LOL.
And then Isla .... she's likable, amazing kick butt cop, wonderful gal.

If you're looking for a cop story with romance, suspense, sexy moments and everything in between.. this is the book for you!

And that ending.... sigh. So good!

Just Wow.

I went into this one blind, and it went way beyond everything I was hoping! It completely blew my expectations out if the water, I couldn't read fast enough!

Acer went from just living life, to the unthinkable, in no time at all. This story was fresh, nerve wracking, sexy... all the things!

For this couple, finding a soulmate along their cruel, uneasy and difficult journey worth it all. True love.

I loved Acer and Isla and cant wait for more!

When I sat down to read ' Acer ', I had no idea what I was in for. My mind is still spinning from the mind**** of what ' Acer ' entails. Holy Moly, I don't recall EVER reading something of this caliper by this author. Before I get any further, I do feel like there should be a TRIGGER WARNING because this book showcases some really devastating situations that some readers may have difficulty with.

Usually, when seeing a blurb for a book, I can pretty much guarantee how said book is going to go. Not with ' Acer '. ' Acer ' is a dark - gritty romance that has emotionally stunted me, and I say that in the best way. The gripping tale of Isla and Acer's story is a fully charged romantic story filled with plenty of twists and turns. This action packed book held a great amount of angst, that had my insides twisting and turning. The passion and reflection that this author showcased shows how truly talented she is. The story-line was different than I usually see done, but it was a nice change of pace. I enjoyed how this author didn't only focus on the romance aspect but more so on the storyline. I would like to say more concerning this, but I'll leave it at that. The depth was deep. This author had to have dug into the depths of her soul, and researched so much to make this story what it was. The characters were a hit, each different in their own way. They possessed a great amount of growth through the entirety of this book.

I would love to say more on this story, on these characters, but going in blind is the best option. With that said, I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

Little did Acer know that helping out a friend would end up putting him in the middle of an FBI case filled with drugs, human trafficking and the mob. As the youngest of four boys and the one that never seemed to make his parents proud, Acer feels that his only chance at redirecting these feelings is to work side by side with the FBI to solve the case. Falling in love with Isla and becoming a target was not part of the plan, but once the smoke clears Acer has more battles to deal with. Can he finally make his family proud? Or will his involvement become the worst thing to ever have happened. Heart wrenching and at times very hard to get through this book was another great read from A.M. Hargrove. Filled with angst, horror and redemption it will be a story that stays with you long after you finish reading it.

Bad boy meets good girl in this intense and slightly heartbreaking story. When I say intense, I mean danger around every corner and a chemistry that burns hot every page along the way. I mean can possibly happen when there are cops, uncover informants, discovery and the fall out?!?! Oh and they characters had me falling for them right away and I loved their individual strengths and weaknesses but together they formed a power couple that I definitely didn’t want to stop reading about.
This is probably one of my favorites from this author and can’t wait to see what is next!

Holy mother of epic emotions! A.M. has truly outdone herself with this story! I have swooned, sighed, laughed, and sweet lord ugly cried! This story is beyond anything I have read in a long time!

Acer and Isla’s story isn’t for the faint of heart, but I challenge you all to read this. It is beyond beautiful, the love that these two share. But when life comes crashing down, it is the most excruciating depths of hell.

Remarkably written, Annie has truly brought out every single emotion that one can have! The darkness that is in the story, is handled so well. The light that surrounds Acer and Isla is why you can not stop reading. Your now the addict who is consumed by a story.

When Acer agrees to a job for his friend, it's one bad decision in a line of bad decisions to come. Except for one silver lining: Isla, the FBI agent whom he ends up working alongside. But the job he agreed to do for his friend pulls him into a world of crime, danger and brutal violence. So as he's falling in love with Isla, it's with a background of danger. Will the two survive everything thrown at them?

Whew, Acer is crazy! Suspenseful and action packed, and more significantly, so emotionally impactful. The horrible things both, especially Acer, went through are admittedly, a bit hard to read and I was horrified for both of them and at the same time, so invested in them as a couple. I loved this story and am impatiently waiting for more.
