The adventures of Duane the polar bear and his arctic friends continue in this charming sequel to the modern-day classic The Very, Very Far North, which Booklist compared to Winnie the Pooh in a starred review.

Past the place where icebergs shiver, you will find the Very, Very Far North, where Duane and his friends are sure to make you feel right at home. You might like to

I just finished The Very, Very Far North and I need more! As I closed this book, I don’t want to say goodbye to these dear friends, I had to know if there was another book or hopefully a seriesI This Nana loves Duane and his friends. Looking forward to this book!!

Well, well, well...if it isn't the gang!

Look!

There's C.C., Magic, Boo, Duane, the Major, Twitch, and Handsome! Oh, it's like I can feel the great big group hug they are all sharing...and that feeling carries itself throughout the story. Through good times and bad, happiness and less-than-happiness, we get to know these furry, feathers, and horned friends THAT much better. We grow to understand that some of us are better at things than others (like small talk with Magic versus C.C.)...and that's

I was lucky enough to be given a copy of the first book in this series, The Very Very Far North, and was lucky enough AGAIN to receive this second one as well. It is absolutely delightful. I think I like it even better than the first one. The characters are all near and dear to my heart. Duane and his friends are the perfect companions. There are many comparisons to Winnie the Pooh for this series, and I wholeheartedly agree. I love reading about how different they all are and how this influence ...more

It’s not always a sure thing that a sequel gets to be a strong link in a chain of books. But as a fan of the first book, this second edition manages to take not just the characters but the reader to new places! I said of the first book, that it joined the ranks of the Winnie the Pooh kinds of books but for this generation.

This second installment surely makes its mark in the same direction and brings both the narrative themes and evocative moments to totally new levels!

So many feelings if you d

This tale between ice and snow is anything but cold as friendship and adventure offer tons of warmth.

First off, this is the following book to another one. I did not read the first one before reading this one, and that was not a problem. The story takes off and immediately becomes familiar right along with the characters. It's no trouble to sink right in with Duane, the polar bear, as he sleeps in his cave and dreams of his friends...later awaking into 'real life'. These are characters, which are

First sentence: If you head north, true north, to the truly north part of north, where icebergs shiver, where thermometers lose confidence, and where snowflakes prefer to avoid, and then once you reach that north, you go just a little bit further north, that’s where you’ll find Duane the polar bear and his friends.

Premise/plot: Just Beyond the Very, Very Far North is the second book in Dan Bar-el's animal fantasy. It starts Duane, C.C., Magic, Handsome, Major Puff, Twitch, and Boo. The book chr

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an e-Arc of Dan Bar-el’s Just Beyond the Very, Very Far North.

Bar-El continues to provide young readers with wonderful messages about family, friendship, and life in the latest adventure of Duane the Polar Bear and his Arctic friends in Just Beyond the Very, Very Far North.

Like the first book this sequel did not disappoint. Duane and his friends are faced with new challenges in the form of a very loathsome weasel, who had a knack for creating d

The friends in this book have the gentleness of the Winnie the Pooh tales.
When I requested and read this book, I wasn’t aware it was a sequel to The Far Far North. The book is good as a stand-alone.
Duane is a polar bear and the far far north is where he has adventures with his arctic friends. C.C., Handsome the musk ox, Major Puff, Twitch and the rest of that odd bunch.
But as real life goes, every now and then an unfriendly guest shows up. Duane and the others discover that life isn’t always

"Just Beyond the Very, Very Far North" is a chapter book from Dan Bar-el. The book features a wonderful cast of characters, each unique in their own way. I agree with previous discussions that the book does have a Winnie-the-Pooh feel , but the book is more edgy and has characters with some more spunk. Our family loves animals, so the characters were engaging and we enjoyed discussing the different animals. Although I saw it mentioned that the book is a beginner chapter book, I found that some o ...more

In this sequel to Bar-el’s book The Very, Very Far North, Duane the polar bear faces new challenges—most of which originate with the weasel. You guessed it, the weasel darts around the arctic community sowing seeds of discontent amongst Duane and his friends. His ‘suggestions’ sound logical, but when carried out, bring discontent to the happy inhabitants of Duane’s community.

Told by an anonymous, omniscient narrator, the action unfolds at a pace perfect for reading aloud to younger kids. Duane,

When my son and I started JUST BEYOND THE VERY, VERY FAR NORTH we were unaware that is actually a sequel to another book titled The Very Very Far North. Fortunately, we were not lost at all. If you end up reading this book first too, I trust you'll be fine too. This is a children's chapter book. Small black and white illustrations are sprinkled on a few pages throughout the book.

The animal characters in this book are delightful. Duane, Magic, Major, C.C., Puff, Twitch, Handsome, and Boo. I can s

I love these books. My five year old loves these books. My two year old will put up with these books.

They are so well written and engaging. So much more creative than most of what is written for this age group.

This was another cute story full of wonderful messages about life, friendship, family and a myriad of other things!

The first book in this series was adorable and also had good messages but I feel like that one definitely was more on the cute side of things where this one definitely dealt with harder challenges among the group of friends.

This story in the hands of kids will do a lot of good, I think. The humor is

In Just Beyond the Very, Very Far North we once again get to spend time with Duane and his delightful band of friends in the Very, Very Far North. I was unfortunately less impressed with this than our first adventure with Duane the Polar Bear but it is still a fun and enjoyable read overall. This installment didn't have quite the same sense of wonder and and joy of the first one and I think that is what let me down. The introduction of a rather loathsome new creature and the seeds of discontent ...more
