The poetry in here is amazing!
I wish the author had made this only a book of poetry.
They were beautiful and I felt like conveyed her feelings much more powerfully.
Everything else felt like I was listening to a street preacher with a bullhorn.
There just wasn't enough of HER journey to make it feel personal.
Thanks to Shannie Alvarez for my DRC. ...more

From my first impressions of this book, I truly thought it was a poetry book. Turns out this book is a spiritual memoir. The author details an incredibly personal journey out of the hell of mental illness into a better place via religion. I personally cannot wish for a better thing than to have people find help with mental issues via religion. Anyone who can stay off the poison foisted out by Big Pharma (with a nod and a wink from a Dr.) is a great thing. I personally wish we could put Big Pharm

For us who live in a city which is part of the “Camino de Santiago” in Northern Spain, Shannie Alvarez’s book is a nice image of the ups and downs that the walkers to Santiago suffer. She shows the way we should walk the journey of our life, with all the complexities, anxieties, and setbacks. We learn to find the meaning of all these personal events, avoiding mediocrity. We learn to speak with ourselves, without falling in a sterile monologue or egoist narcissism. We do not fall in these traps,

Alvarez opens up and shares a part of her journey from darkness to light that many of us can relate to. Her sincere thought-provoking story is mixed nicely with heartfelt poetry that will take you along with her perspective of the connection between the Jew and the Gentile. Looking forward to another book in the future.

We Are One is an interesting read. It's just the right length and the author gets to right the point. Depends on what one is after, the interpretation could be either deep or simply interestingly cool as far as illustrating the author's perspective. Nice and easy weekend book.

One human’s fight against the darkness and her imperative to never give in to the darkness’ lies. Reading her story, her journey, her battle is encouraging for those of her readers who are still in the thick of their own darknesses.
If I’m being honest, the poems didn’t really do much for me (hence the 4 stars rather than 5), but that doesn’t mean they are bad!

Deep, passionate and provocative… Miss Alvarez managed to ask and answer the question so many lost people dare not ask; How do I move from this point in my life, to that which is better for me? This is the biography of a person rising to meet the emotional challenges of life, through trails and errors, darkness and light, despair and enlightment, seeking spiritual answers in a world which has sold us the watered down pulpit version of Jesus as an answer to our problems. Left with no choice but t

I am walking through Shannie’s journeys right now alongside her, in her book that is(well, sometimes physically too). Shannie is not only the author & main character of this book but she is a very dear soul I’ve known for years. When you think you really know someone, think again. Growing up Shannie was the one of the most vibrant & brave souls I knew. As I journey with her through this book I already get a sense for the true bravery she exhibited as I learn the deep struggles she faces on the d

This book talks about the good and bad in all of us, and in the world. Through the lens of a Christian who has had struggles with her own health, the author seeks to understand the good and bad, in light of her own past, and takes the reader on a journey of darkness into light. The author reflects on Christian and Jewish beliefs and ultimately, how we are all in God's plan, meant to be different but complementary to one another, as we together, make up the whole of our collective being, as One.

Shannie does a great job of being transparent and sharing her journey of pain, hopelessness and despair. She also gives the reader hope through her honesty of finding the love of Jesus and how her relationship with the Father has shined light on the darkness she was walking in and the importance of sharing her story and her faith to inspire others and encourage them to understand how loved they truly are.

Awesome read of a personal struggle, once you pick it up, I guarantee you won't want to put it down until finished. So emotional and inspiring at the same time. It also helped in my own struggle, we are not alone,,, "We Are One"
