Important message: While Jews participated in the British transatlantic slave trade, they were not the most active investors in slaving companies or the owners of the highest numbers of slaves (with several exceptions that the author details). But the prose is very, very technical, with a greater emphasis on statistics than on biographical passages. I would have liked some information, or at least reasonable speculation, about relations between colonial Jews and their slaves.

This, to me, is another example of "throwing a rock and hiding your hand". No one wants to take responsibility for their part in this horrid place in american history. This is the only event in which everyone seems to want to forget. If it were the holocaust or the interment camps or the reservations, everyone would be up in arms. The author seems to be saying "it's just the slave trade, get over it, we poor jews had nothing or rather very little to do with the situation. You can find statistics ...more
