My favorite Babar book. It doesn't dance around the issue of prejudice, but makes it accessible. And, realistically, it doesn't pretend to solve everything even as it shows a budding friendship. The open-ended nature of the plot makes it age-appropriate food for thought - what do you think happens next? Younger readers don't need to go too deep to enjoy it, but older kids will get a subtle introduction to the challenges of cultural diversity.
Good stuff, recommended.
