The year is 2029. Nick Winston's life is about to change. Recruited by a resistance group to go undercover in the U.S. government, Nick walks a dangerous tightrope to expose a plot that the NSA, partnered with largest social and search networks, are executing a top-secret plan to hack into people's minds through the neural implant, known as the brain chip. Nick slowly descends into a whistleblower's worst nightmare, navigating as a spy—where each action becomes a choice to save his own life or save his society. A modern thriller, Code 44 portrays a subtle dystopian nightmare where the singularity is closer than we think. When the deep state's culture of mass surveillance converges with neurocapitalism, things like free speech and privacy are a thing of the past. In the vein of Philip K Dick's A Scanner Darkly and George Orwell's 1984, where big brother is always watching, this psychologically-gripping, suspense novel will have you quickly turning the pages to find out what happens next.

I grew up in Washington D.C., moved away to Los Angeles for a decade to follow my love of storytelling and screenwriting, and ended up on a marketing and advertising career track. Now back in D.C, and with over 2 decades of digital advertising experience, I have seen first hand how we are tracked and traced by our digital footprints. I am fascinated by the advent of new technologies and how they will affect us in the future, My novel, Code 44, is an exploration, a realistic potential, of how this technology will roll out to the masses and the Orwellian threats it presents to our democracy and freedom.

If you want to ask me any questions or discuss the topic of the upcoming brain chip, that Elon Musk plans to release in 2020, I'd love to!

Near future world of hyper vigilant/connected world where most people have transitioned from iphone and associated watches to having a chip in their head... advantages is that the chip regulates the human body , automatically regulating sugar levels, serotonin etc, but the bad side is that they can be tracked, watched, hacked and ultimately controlled....
as terrifying as it is most are not concerned because they can't do without the advantages.
The story somewhat reminds me of "The Circle" although this one has more sinister governmental aspects.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would..this isn’t my normal reading genre but it was great! The plot twists and anxiety inducing chapters were really fun to read. I am quite sad about the abrupt ending. But some things are better left to the imagination

Interesting, fast-paced book that had a number of surprising plot twists. I only wish that the ending wasn't quite so abrupt.

Really enjoyed this! So many fun twists... and oh-so-relevant to our modern-day big-brother reality. (Facebook is watching. Alexa is listening.) I hope these technologies don’t become real... but I fear we’re already on this trajectory. Interesting food for thought!

Great concept

I love the elements in this book, and there are so many elements in it that are intriguing and exciting. Can't say I'm blown away by the execution, though.
