Rain -- The gangs of the underground can be brutal. I know this well and have the scars to prove it. So when a team of rough-looking men start nosing around the slums of Rockwell, I make it my business to know what they’re up to. One in particular catches my eye. He’s rough and scary looking, but his touch is gentle when it needs to be. He’s older and more experienced in every way than me, but I’m still drawn to him. I’m not sure why, but I want him. And when I let him take me, I’ll savor the experience until it’s time to go.
Arkham -- The little pixie warrior is a conundrum if ever there was one. She’s strong and capable but scarred inside and out. I can’t fix what’s broken inside her, but I can share her burdens and make her part of my circle. I’ll take her with me, with Bones MC. She’ll be protected there. But who’s gonna protect her from me?
**WARNING** Bones is a rough MC. They can be violent, but they’re protective to a fault. The men love sex and the women don’t shy away from it. If you think you can handle their brand of loving… read on!
Erotic romance author by night, emergency room tech/clerk by day, Marteeka Karland works really hard to drive everyone in her life completely and totally nuts. She has been creating stories from her warped imagination since she was in the third grade. Her love of writing blossomed throughout her teenage years until it developed into the totally unorthodox and irreverent style her English teachers tried hard to rid her of. The world of Bones MC is always written fast and furious and I have to admit that I have come to love each story so far. H/h, Arkham and Rain were so alike it wasn't even funny! Two kick-ass characters, both scarred, flawed and with traumatic pasts but they were drawn to one another from the very start thus creating a very intense storyline. I just love the way Marteeka Karland makes all her characters unique yet durable with strong traits of warriors. Such enjoyable secondary characters too! I can't wait for Shadow to find his significant other in Bones MC, then Data, Goose and all the rest!
"“I do, baby. Don’t cry. I can’t… I don’t know what to do with your tears. The only person I can kill to make them go away is myself, and that would leave you unprotected.” He was serious, panic beginning to seize him. What if she didn’t love him back? What if she still wanted to leave?"
...AND REAL MEN DO CRY!
"Rain couldn’t help herself. The impact of his words was like a physical caress. Her knees went rubbery, and she probably would have just sat down right there if Arkham hasn’t caught her. He pulled her tightly into his arms and buried his face in her hair. It was only then she realized his body was trembling against hers, and she felt a dampness against her neck where his face was next to hers. He was crying? And, goddammit, she was crying, too."
This is my first read by Marteeka and I am really impressed. Rain is such a strong woman for growing up and dealing with all she had, Arkham was the strong, resilient type with a heart of pure gold hidden, and together they fit perfectly. I was drawn in from the first page and Marteeka developed the story perfectly - keeping me reading until the very end. This story is part of series but can be read as a stand alone - I know I will going back and reading the earlier part of the series to learn about the characters
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This caught my eye and I purchased it before realizing it was a VERY short story. Less than 100 pages. I did not feel that this story was worth 3.99 at all. Insta love and silly plotting in the end.
This story was not the typical so far in this series It was good, just different I didn’t really connect with the characters til the end and then I fell for both! Can’t wait to read more!
For a short story, Ms. Karland packed in a novel’s worth of romance into a tiny package. There’s an unconventional heroine, a hero who’s seen too much of the dark side of life and a little boy needing to be saved. There’s trust to earn, love to grow and lessons to learn about the difference between sex and making love with a person you want forever. Arkham the story has it all. Arkham the hero can’t believe he’s found the one for him.
The story actually opens with suspense and a bit of action. What I appreciated was that even though the action in the story could have easily dipped into more violence, the author reined it in so the focus remained on Arkham meeting the heroine, Rain. And to give Rain her due, she sure knows how to kick for maximum impact. She’s feisty and I really liked that.
I appreciated Arkaham’s reaction when he sees evidence of Rain’s past. For me, that was a powerful moment. Another part I enjoyed reading was the scene where the hero helps her through a flashback. Another powerful moment in the story. Like I said, the author packed in some read-worthy moments which made this short story stand out.
Of course, when it comes to Rain learning the difference between sex and the expression of love with someone you trust, the eroticism was well placed, paced and written. For readers who find those scenes the highlight of an erotic romance, they should be well pleased.
Even though this story is part of a series, it’s fully a standalone read with a happy ever after between two characters that deserved to be happy. Arkham is a wonderful romance nugget that shouldn’t be missed.
I am sooo in love with this series. Every story gets better and better. This is no different.
Enters Rain. A woman living among the ruins, abused, bruised, and permanently scarred, she moves between the ruins and the gangs to just survive until she sees a group of men. To her, they are not like the gangs, and they do not belong, but she sees him. He is huge and gorgeous aaannnd now he has her..not only in his sights but in his grasp. The thing is, she knows what their there for except she doesn't know yet.
Enter stage right: Arkham. He’s rough and scary looking, and he had sptted Rain. To him, he sees a boy until he touches her. And every fiber in his being has him on alert to touch, to hold, to protect, and he sees he is a she - a beautiful little pixie. Arkham realizes not only is he drawn to her, but she is everything he has ever wanted - strong, fearless, and honorable. However, he’s older and more experienced in every way, and he has to gain her trust, and he does, but after she saves them and help them find what/who they came for.
Arkham and Rain find each other and along the way disperses past baggage and connect physically, emotionally and find that trust is more than just an action to be used but and honorable feeling that you are never ever alone.
I am so loving the narrator's voice, especially when she does other in the MC.
H/h: Arkham and Rain POV: 3rd person dual Genre: MC Romance Heat level: Scorching Standalone?: Y but better with series Cliffhanger?: Y HEA/HFN: Y Triggers: violence, language, explicit erotic content, torture scars on heroine Tropes: Age Gap, Badass Heroine, Instalove, Alpha Male Narration review: The narration was very good. The narrator was clear and easy to understand. She was good at both male and female voices. I’d be happy to listen to her again. Story review: I loved the heroine. She was tough, but had a vulnerable side. She was young, but could take care of herself. The Hero was a delightfully alpha male with a loving side. I loved the fact that he didn’t push her into physical intimacy. He seemed to really care for the heroine. I enjoyed their relationship and liked them as a couple. There was an appropriate amount of action and suspense. I liked that the MC members didn’t kill just for the sake of killing, although there was some violence. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook very much and would be happy to listen to more from this author and/or narrator. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I'm enjoying these books for what they are, fast paced, instalove, and smutty, lol. The narration is pretty decent, I'm always of the opinion that romance books seriously benefit from having duet or at least dual narration, but I do think she did a decent job, at no point was I pulled out of my immersion like I sometimes am with single narrators. If you need a short HEA audiobook as a filler between some longer listens, and don't mind instalove MC books with darker themes and some triggering topics, Marteeka's books have been filling that niche for me.
Oh my gosh! Rain! Oh, as a momma, I just wanted to wrap that poor girl in my arms and hug her tight. The fact that she managed to bring Arkham to his knees made me love her all the more. Add to that her ability to survive the life, if you can really call what she was doing much of one, she found herself in makes her one heck of a badass in my book.
There are definitely some unpleasant parts to this - some explicit, others implied. Other than being too short though, it was a good read.
I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrator is Umi Markkanen, who always does a good job.
This is the fifth story in the "Bones MC" series. This one is about Arkham and Rain. She is a feisty and exactly what this man needs. Even more they are so much a like with the scars to prove it. I love how their story develops. This is a gritty fast paced story and a fairly quick read. This is such a good story with some interesting twists and turns. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life.
I love Rain and Arkham. She has had a rough life living on the streets and trying to just survive. Arkham is just the hot over bossy biker she needs. Their story is sweet and steamy and as always you get the entertaining secondary characters of the Bones MC
Rain is such a strong woman, she had a rough life living on the streets and trying to just survive. Arkham is the strong, hot over bossy biker, who is the resilient type with a heart of pure gold hidden, and together they are perfect. This is a story romantic and steamy, with wonderful characters .
I have enjoyed every one of the MC Bones stories by Marteeka Karland. The characters are real-life with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It is a short story, but carries a lot of details and romance. It is well written, and good narration. I received a free copy of this audiobook, and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Arkam and Rain kept me caught up in this exciting story. Rain is fierce woman who has dealings with the underground. She and Arkham connect, and their path begins in this exciting story filled with twists and turns that had me connecting with Rain and cheering for her to finally get her chance for happiness. The narration for the book is excellent and I could listen to this story over and over.
This is the fifth book in the Bones MC Series. This is a series of interconnected stories. Arkham and Rain's story is entertaining, fast-paced, and passionate. I liked the action, the mystery, and the twists. Umi Markkanen did a great job bringing the story to life. Looking forward to listening to Trucker, the next book in the series. I like this well written series! #StoryOrigin
This audiobook was excellent. Had good characters and they were well done by the narrator. The storyline was good and enjoyable. The more stories you get into the series the more you like learning about each character from the MC. The worldbuilding on this was really good also. I received this with a promotional code and highly recommend the series. this is my honest review.
I read this whole series in less than 24 hours. Bones is a badass group of men and bikers. Each book stands on its own but they take the missions seriously. Each couple worms their way into your heart!
I have been loving this series and getting to know each of the different members. Arkham finds his match in Rain. Instant chemistry between these two. It's short, hot and that's what you love about these books
Another winner in this series of books.Very enjoyable and kept my attention. Good characters and plot. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Okay I gotta say I love me some Arkham! He's a big bad biker with a heart of gold. He appears gruff and callous but he's super sweet and lovable, amazing read.
I love how quickly and completely Arkham fell for his Rain. It was beautiful in that rough tough biker way. Love how feisty Rain is , she’ll keep him on his toes for sure.
I am enjoying this series. Enjoy the narration. Arkham and Rain didn’t seem likely couple but as the book goes along they grow on you. I am looking forward to more on this series and more of them on audio.
