Lia Babineaux hails from a long line of famed Babineaux witches known for their immense power and ability to wield various types of magick. Having lost both her mother and aunt at a young age, she is raised under a heavy thumb by her grandmother, Cecilia, who doesn’t want to lose Lia to the same fate that cost Lia’s mother her life.
However, like the witches that came before her, Lia has a curiosity about magick that is insatiable and which, in her opinion, her grandmother is taking too long to help her develop. That curiosity leads her to the Babineaux family grimoire, a spell book her abilities are nowhere near advanced enough to handle. Her amateur skills result in the rise of a demon, Seokjin, who bonds to her as her familiar; essentially the other half to her whole.
Seokjin and Lia become close as the years pass, facing every threat head-on as a team and then, eventually, as lovers. Along the way, their team grows to include more witches, a gargoyle, a Fae, and even a vampire. With a legacy of power behind her, Lia unravels the path to a mystery that could help her uncover the truth behind her mother and aunt’s deaths, and despite a secret Seokjin is forced to hide from the woman he loves.
An AMBW, BWAM interracial fantasy paranormal romance.
I’ve always been a writer. My Pop-Pop was always my biggest fan and encouraged my love of reading. From my first stories about talking wolves to my first published novels with witches and lost love. Crafting an enchanting and riveting tale is nothing new to me.
As a black woman, I strive to put us on the forefront of romance novels. To put us in fantastical and daring situations that carve heroines everyone loves to read about.
Other than being a writer, I fancy myself quite the poet.
When I’m not doing anything that has to do with writing; I enjoy watching my favorite YouTubers, playing video games and sleeping.
I normally do not leave reviews.. However this book and the author deserve more then that. This book was great I read Book 1&2 in one day I couldn't put it down. It was well written with the characters defended in their own way. Each one with a backstory that shows they were meant to be together. Not only is the main character a black woman but a witch at best. The twists the turns the love that was shown throughout the book had me on edge from every page. The take on a paranormal polygamic relationship had my mind in awe. As I neared the end of book 2 I knew this can't be the end of Lia as the last page had me wanting to know the next part of this series. I do not like to give away the juicy details of this book because it is one to be read by all readers with an open mind. The author will be one that I continue to follow waiting on the next book to be released. BUY IT you wont be disappointed.
First I want to start off by saying I love that the author makes it a point to pair her black heroines with POC heros. Secondly the rich assortment of character were really nice to meet throughout the book. If I were to have any caveat with this book it’s that there is a lot of information is being introduced but not fleshed out within the story. I wanna know so much more about the characters that are introduced here but I understand that sometimes as you’re writing these are characters that are introduced to help develop the main ones. Very hot threesome scene in there as well so kudos to that ;). This isn’t typically a book that I would go for because I don’t like to have to deal with witches, demons, angels and the like, but the author really drew me in with the love between Lia and Soekjin. Never thought that I would be hot for a demon but in these unprecedented times anything can happen.
Reads more like an erotic romance. It seemed that sex scenes were prioritized over plot progression or character development leading to a lack of connection with and between the characters. Fantasy elements were great and the cliffhanger at the end almost makes me want to give the second book a try. I would recommend for those looking for a spicy read with some paranormal/fantasy elements.
What are we going to do with Lia Stubborn self. Kia don't listen to no one's advice. I like the shape of it all ready for the next book. This book was recommended by UniqueWord, LLC
Cox makes her debut with this fast-paced, intriguing paranormal romance.
Lia Babineaux’s insatiable curiosity about magick leads her to rise Seokjin, an ancient demon, with her spell. As Seokjin bonds to Lia as her familiar and gets drawn into her world, the two become inseparable. The things look great until Lia is joined by a mysterious gargoyle and comes across a secret that could help her uncover her mother and aunt’s deaths.
Rife with unexpected plot twists as a variety of characters: a vampire, a demon, witches, a Fae, and a gargoyle come together to unravel a shocking secret, the book is high on adrenaline and shocking revelations.
The handsome Seokjin and mysterious Yin are breathlessly appealing, and beautiful Lia with her intelligence, kick-ass attitude, and passionate heart is a worthy heroine.
Cox’s crisp prose, tastefully constructed erotic love scenes, quick wit, and compelling characters will enchant lovers of paranormal romance.
This book is filled with twists and turns and other juicy surprises! I love how the main character Lia grows and gets more interesting with twists and turns in her life. Can’t wait for book 2!
I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought it would. The author seems pretty knowledgeable and spared no details. I really love the characters and the use of POC. Keep it up!
Definitely not what I was expecting. It was so much better! The story was good and the element of what's really going on added to it to keep you reading. Ready for part 2!
I would like to thank Unique Words, LLC for suggesting this novel. The main characters were a joy to discover . The background setting of the Bayou in Louisiana filled me with joy ( Louisiana native). Ready for the next book!
There is so much going on in this story, I like the diversity, like the idea behind it, I'm even okay with the Reverse Harem shit that is happening, but everything is happening so fast and I don't think I even understand what's going on, there are like multiple ideas of multiple stories condensed in one, also I'm not sure I'm keen on the way the author writes
Where do I start without giving any spoilers. I’ll just say this story is way more intense than I expected it to be. I really enjoyed it and I am started the next book now!
This was an interesting storyline, however I found it hard to like Lia honestly. It's true what they say that with great power comes great responsibility. Unfortunately, Lia did not seem to have heard that saying before. I'm not sure how old she was supposed to have been, considering she had two lovers in this story. However, running away from conflict, sticking her tongue out during arguments, not listening to her older, wiser, and more talented grandmother, running head first into dangerous situations without any kind of plan or backup, and just being contrary for no apparent reason, made her seem more like a teenager mentally than an adult who was supposed to be spending her time training and learning her craft. She was stubborn, reckless and irresponsible and it was hard to match that spirit of a character with someone who had all of this untapped power. There were quite a few plot holes with regards to the vampires and the other paranormal beings who all just seemed to "know" Lia even if they'd never met her. She also treated her familiar recklessly, like an entitled brat, instead of like someone she loved, which also made her seem childish in places in the book. All in all this was an interesting story that had the potential to be more but it fell short and left me with more questions than answers and also left me wishing there would have been some redeeming qualities with the main character by the end of the book. Unfortunately that didn't happen and I will not be reading more in this series.
Book 1 leaves you with many questions. I figured this would happen so I waited till book 2 was release before reading book 1 lol. I love paranormal reads and thoroughly enjoy when my heroine looks like me! Lia irked my nerves sometimes with her childlike curiosity and a “teenage way” of thinking she was invincible. It made the storyline more intriguing (in a weird way) because I wanted to know what else she would get into.
Besides the main trio we are introduced to a few other characters. I look forward to the roles they play in book 2. The scene Cassie and Lia use their powers to cure the waldgeist is my favorite part. It was so descriptive as I read it played like a movie in my head. The taboo polyandry is something rarely talked about. It gave the book more character. I’m not one of those people who frowned on that aspect. It was pretty cool to me especially the last lovemaking scene. So on to book 2, which both books were recommended to me by UNIQUEWORDSLLC.
The hoodoo and witchcraft representation was well done. The world of supernaturals that the author made was really interesting and fun to read.
The problem was I really didn't like one of the MMCs in the book. Seokjin was very annoying. He was constantly rude to everyone, childish, and wanted to impart his will over everyone, even his mistress (the FMC). He told her that Yin, the 3rd they invited into their relationship, needed to know that he lead and Yin has to follow. What?! If anything, the FMC leads because Seokjin is her familiar. 🙄 He was just always very obnoxious.
Really, I wanted the FMC to be with Yin and Airis....mostly Airis. Yin was sweet but not enough was shown of his personality outside of wanting to be by the FMC's side at all times, so I didn't really feel drawn to him when he was on the page.
This is a great paranormal story. I just feel as if Lia has a lot of growing to do. Not only as a witch, but as a woman. She plays too many games with Jin's heart. Understandable that she is a witch and have a high sexual appetite, but as we see with her cousin Cassie, she could be a one man type of woman. She pits Jin against Yin, when Jin was there all of this time. I don't like how her grandmother Cecila does the same. So I guess it's a learned trait. Hopefully in book two I will see more maturity, more respect for Jin and his feelings. Three's truly a crowd and could make for disheartening feelings.
I’m not much a reviewer, if you will, but this book was exceptional. I couldn’t put it down. With in the first few pages I was hooked!! My room went from day to night faster than I thought bc I lost track of time. You know when you read something and you’re so sucked into, it it’s all you can think about? You’re already sad for it to end .... that was this for me. Highly recommend! The author doesn’t hold back on the raunchy bits either.
Ok so this was a great and fast read! It got a little stale towards the end when introducing new characters. I want to see where the new characters develop. How they mold the story further. Not gone lie ima keep it a buck with ya, but miss mommas is a freak and I love it!! I really want her to be with all 3!! Like and they be ok with servicing only her. I can’t wait to start on the next one.
This book was just not for me 😭 I was on a demon kick bc the last one I read was amazing (sweet vengeance ilu 🥹) but this book just did not do it for me- the plot didn’t hold my attention the FMC, Lia, made choices that got on my nerves! Both Jin and Yin (the MMC’s) were annoying as well- this book took me way longer than it should have to complete ☹️ but oh well, onto the next one!
I love the way all the characters came to an understanding by the end. I hope it is the same in the next book. Also, I'm glad that this book didn't end on a huge cliffhanger.
This was my first time reading a book from this author. I am impressed. The book was exciting and sexy. Not a dull moment. Thank you UniqueWords LLC for recommending this book. I can't wait to read the next book.
Love love love this book....can't wait to read part 2,I'm dying to one what Jin is hiding tho....I love how Jin n Yin both love Lia tho.....amazing job💙🔥
Found you through Smauggy and I am not disappointed except the fact I'm just hearing about you! I can not wait to read more. This has everything Magick and I love it. Three can be a crowd but it's fun and doable ;). On to part 2!
I enjoy these kinds of books the characters were just absolutely phenomenal to me lis was something else ma maw was as a this book was recommended by unique words llc
I really enjoyed this book. In the beginning I didn’t know if I would like it. Seokjin for some reason got on my nerves. When other characters came in and story line progressed, it got better.
