i found this book revealing it remind me of the essay that i did about 30 years ago ( the sociology of art). for a honorary fellowship.
i too lived worked & studied in oxford, 1970-79 but i did not live on the cherwell which if i recall from memory the sheds there were more like fisher-mans shelters than anything else.. I'll health and a dependence problem always seam to go hand in had with talented people
of notoriety thru the ages MOZART, VAN-GOGH, DALI, neitcher VARIOUS JAZZ MUSICIAN'S OZZY OSBORNE BIRANJONES( THE ROLLING STONES)MICHEL JACKSON and no doubt many more waiting for the grim reaper to appear
as they say of drug-users " any trip could be your last. i am sure that applys to alcoholics also... but what this book outlines like i have suggested is the regularity of the
prescription drugs he was taken ( sleeping pills, sedatives, anti-depressants,) and then there were the social ones nicotine & alcohol..!!!
and as indicated the ignorant incompetence of others that contributed to his demise...
the scheming agent with a more acute dependency problem than Dylan Thomas
u.s taxes British taxes, in chapter 9..... the cover up, it outline the capacity for alcohol.. that could put the young to shame today.. with all of their abuse....
and the fatal ailment that was contracted while in a coma...
the poem.. HOW TO KILL A POET IN TEN EASY LESSONS..excellent blank verse
summaries the whole book and the conspirators, hangers-on & villains
the author states " well at least we have (fern-hill).." ( they shouted to the tramp by the well " ( hey mister ).. but what about " Christmas poems
do not go gentle, i have longed to move away... but my fav has to be UNDER MILK WOOD.. with or without its controversial verses,, is timeless poetry
just like Robert burns tam o shanter,, Wordsworth's daffodil's,
i also watched the d.v.d the edge of love,,, but it should have been titled the woman in Dylan Thomas life.. i only hope that my verse can compare in any way to these
well all live in hope dear reader...
