Even when little happens, I still have a blast with this series. The highlight of this one is Sugimoto and Asirpa’s escape from Tsurumi’s group. Not the most exciting book in the series but still lots of fun.
Un tomo que no tiene la fuerza que sus amigos predecesores, pero que plantea una nueva relación de camaradería. Un nuevo tatuaje, lo que nos devuelve a la trama principal.

I did not expect for this volume to suddenly become a horror novel, but it did and was quite intense!! It was so weird having the same skepticism as Asirpa and wondering what the hell was going on.
I still really love every one of Sugimoto’s fight sequences. They are really captivating in his energy and Noda’s art style amps it up even more. I can’t help but appreciate the beauty in the brutality.
There’s a certain beauty in the chaos, the unhinged absurdity, and the raw brutality of this series, and this volume embodies that perfectly. It’s wild, unpredictable, and unforgettable.
Who saw that twist with the bear man coming? One moment you are bracing for intense action, and the next you feel like you have stumbled into a horror novel. It was eerie, unsettling, and unique. The shift in tone was unexpected but, honestly, it worked.
Now, let’s talk about plot armor. It’s getting harder to ignore at this point. I know Sugimoto’s whole thing is being "Immortal Sugimoto," but come on. The guy was literally shot in the head in volumes ago and somehow walked away like it was just a bad headache. I get that it’s part of the charm of his character, but it’s starting to feel too convenient—especially with how he, Asirpa, and Shiraishi managed to slip away from Tsurumi and his crew. I’m all for clever escapes, but sometimes it feels like they get away just a little too easily, considering how deadly the circumstances are supposed to be. I’m willing to suspend my disbelief to a certain point, but this volume definitely pushed that limit.
I understand why some people a little bit put off by Golden Kamuy, Asirpa's obsession with bear hunting is concerning but I try to remember, this manga was about story in the past, indigenous people hunt to live, not just for idle pleasure.
Anyway, still sad that they had to kill that white bear, or polar bear (too far from arctic circle tho), and not made good use of it.
And here another story about tattooed prisoner, I have lost count how may tattooed prisoner left to find the gold.
Tsurumi was still unhinged as always, I still can't wrap my head what he wanted to do with the gold, Hijikata at least had clear intention what he wanted.
That reminds me, no Hijikata in this volume but at least I could still see Ogata was as healthy as he could be with those wounds.
Just like Tsurumi, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU OGATA?!

The Bear Man is one of the best one off tattooed criminals Noda's done in the series - really great little story. And of course, the Sugimoto/Asirpa stuff in this volume is absolutely top notch. Great volume.
Just when you thought you would get another wild bear fight volume! I found the last volume a bit of a let down until the final chapter, so this feels like a welcome return to form.
Asirpa decides to not trust Lt. Tsurumi and Sugimoto the forever loyal helps her escape. Shiraishi and the Russian sniper (the one after Ogata, now referred to as Riding Hood) tag along. Tanigaki gets left behind. Also, there's a polar bear.
But fugitives still need to eat, and funds are running low, so the group tries their hand at panning for gold... in Hokkaido... where they team up with a guy already panning for gold... who just happens to be a tattooed prisoner... We're right back where we started.
