I'm not like the vampires in your books, little girl. I'm not agonising over my own soul or the ethics of drinking your blood. I don't want saving or to find some great love that will alter my very existence. I'm not a monster. I'm the devil himself and I have no problem playing that role. I take what I want and right now, what I want is you... And there's nothing you can do to stop me.
Hanleigh is a USA Today Bestselling Author and is about as English as it's possible to be, without actually being English.
She first fell in love with books as a child reading Dr Seuss, but moved onto romance when she first read Pride and Prejudice at the age of twelve. She wishes she could live inside the world inside her mind, but since that isn't possible she puts pen to paper and shares that world with her readers instead.
Farah is human, a waitress, who loves to read about vampires. Everette is a vampire, who has an obsession with Farah. It’s very interesting to see how they interact with each other. Just when things are heating up, you are faced with a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read Craving!
WOW. That perfectly describes this book. It is full of hot sexy man, intrigue, perseverance, and perfection. I fully recommend this book. "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
Vampires ✅ Blood ✅ Loved this! Different to the usual vampire book but so good! The male lead has no emotions and doesn’t care - and the fmc it timid but at the same time there’s so much room to grow can’t wait to see what happens next
Instinct was a short, fast-paced read and I enjoyed every moment of it. This story is focused on a vampire Everette's intense obsession with a human Farah. This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last. It was entertaining and although it ends in a cliff-hanger I can't wait to see where this story goes. I would highly recommend this for those looking for a quick vampire novella. The audiobook version was narrated by Debbie Soelter who is a new to me narrator. Although her voice was pleasant to listen to there were certain parts of the audiobook where she sounded a bit robotic however after a while I got used to it. AudiobookObsession
My first vampire book, not sure what to think because in my opinion being a short story it all happens to fast, boy sees girl, next thing bed, well near enough, I find it hard to take in as i don’t think it shows women in a good light, but I think I need to get into the characters better. Time will tell, I found the narrator for me destroyed the story, the portrayal of the male voice was cringe worthy and the fast, slow way the narrator spoke I didn’t enjoy, but I can shut this out and concentrate on the story. On too the next book to try and understand better.
I have now also read the book, it makes more sense to me why Farah acted the way she did, Everett ding a Vampire can control her mind so she is incapable of resisting his charms. Rating the same and it is a good read.
the story itself was well written and i liked the characters but this should have been longer and more complete. its like once the story truly got started the book was over. I personally feel it could have been one book. if you like a quick read or a story spread out over multiple books then this is the book for you.
When it comes to vampires Everette is part of the upper echelon and he choose whichever human he wants to feast on whenever he wants. He has chosen the woman who he will have next however one taste of her is not enough.
Farah didn’t believe that vampires existed outside of people’s imaginations, but she is about to learn otherwise and it could have deadly consequences.
They both know that they should stay away from each other but somethings are too strong to deny. I can’t wait to see where Everette’s and Farah’s story takes us. I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job with both characters.
I have not read anything by this author before but I must say I was completely blown away with how she has cleaverly created a world written from the view of a vampire and his philosophy, unlike anything written by other Author’s, well any author’s I am aware of. It was really refreshing to have an someone write a totally different view presenting an accurate taking with how this strangely conflicted vampire can be completely predatorial one moment then appears to be evaluating himself and his life immediately afterwards due to emotions that have been buried for centuries, why are his natural instincts even in question??. We are introduced to Everette as he processes what is happening to him and why?? Can his curiosity for one human cause untold havoc?? This author has natural flow with her imagination and her descriptive abilities, presenting a perfect rendition of a world most people are unaware even exist, giving us the opportunity to view this amazing world from two strong and intriguing character’s. These two strong, characters, are drawn to each other on a level neither understand, both aware their curiosity is for different reasons while trying to evaluate the danger’s involved. Whether the predator or the prey, both are conscious far more is at stake here than their immediate response to each other, what that is they are yet to find out. Farah knows from the first glance Everette is extremely dangerous, yet for reason’s she cannot fathom Farah steps towards him rather than walking away, her reasoning has her questioing her own actions. Amazingly written, this book is the start of a series I know I will be unable to put down. To become part of a world where we view, understand and evaluate the danger’s and reasoning felt by both characters, allows us to watch this extremely talented Author create diverse situations where two strong willed and independent characters realise they are ignoring their natural INSTINCT'S of self preservation while a web of knowledge, mystery, drama and possibilities binds itself around Everette and Farah. If you are anything like me, amazed with finding an Author who has opened the door into a world we can follow as we become totally enamoured with all the possibilities, you’re going to be left wanting to devour each book in this series. “Craving” the next book in the series is already available, so needless to say I have my reading set for the day with my imagination wide open to all the possibilities Ms Bradley has developed within this awesome series.
Instinct is one of the best "Vampire" books I've ever read with its unique point of view and the constant inner thoughts that flow from Everette and Farah's minds. Everette is an Elite Vampire, royalty as it were. He has wandered the world, waiting for just the right human to be his to do with as he pleases. Farah is the perfect foil, with her mind full of literary and big screen vampires. One of the first interactions between the vampire and the waitress is when he grabs the book she's reading (in a nanosecond!) and of course she's Team Edward. Cleverly done, indeed. There is a seductive feel all throughout and Farah is drawn right into Everette's universe. She's frightened at the thought of being stalked, but comforted by who's doing the stalking. Everette is so sure of himself and certain that he will love playing with the human for awhile and then, naturally, drain her dry. But he has certain behaviors that he's not quite sure where they're coming from. Why does he wait to take her blood? Why does he want to take her home and let her stay with him, have breakfast in the morning? He's so much more humane when he's with Farah and he even enjoys sitting on her window sill watching her sleep at night. And Farah feels safe and definitely desired, even though she feels danger lurking all around. This is a magnificent set-up for the sequel, Craving, and I need to start it right now! I listened to the audio book and am thoroughly impressed with the job Debbie Soelter did with the narration. Her Farah was sweet and fearless while Everette was sensual and hypnotic. The voices made the audio book even more enjoyable!
This author wrote a vampire as he should be, evil and a predator. Everette is an Elite, vampire royalty. He is known for being ruthless and giving no mercy. He has his sights set on Farah. She is meant to be his next victim. For some odd reason, one that is bothering him to his core, he can't get himself to hurt her. He can't make her his victim. He has a pull towards her, an attraction that he can't explain. Farrah is immediately drawn to him to. Everette is going against all he believes in when he comes to her rescue from another vampire. Also letting himself act on his growing feelings. This is such a great start to this series. I need to know what happens next! Get ready vampire romance fans to be hooked. You won't be able to pick up the next book fast enough. For audio listeners, you'll be impressed by this narrators switch from Everette & Farrah. Her voice represents both characters well. How she tells the story is perfect with an errie feeling mixed with a romantic element.Whether you read or listen to this story, get ready to become addicted!
I received this audiobook in return for a 100% honest review.
This is book one for a novella series. I enjoy the characters a lot. And while the vampire theme is must more darker than your typical vampire book.... I wanted more. It was hot and fast paced. Over all quick and leaves you hanging. Again I will remind you that it's a novella series, so it will be short, but I want them all so I don't have to wait. Everett is so dark and screams death and danger. Farah is so sweet. I love how she is more relatable than your typical female lead in this kind of subgenre. She is clearly afraid but her curiosity is getting the best of her. Everett hasn't lied to her, he told her up front what will happen, yet she is willing to except that. The narrator, you can tell it's rough on her voice to do a lower octave for Everett's POV. I think It might have been better if there was a male narrator for Everett, but she does a good job.
This is a quick read/listen that introduces us to Everette and Farrah. He makes no bones about the fact that he is a ruthless predator and she is his prey... but for some reason she intrigues the vampire and he doesn't kill her. I look forward to reading/listening to more
I have completed a few series by Hanleigh Bradley and this one is different. Instinct was a quick read but I enjoyed it so much, I decided to put it down a few times to prolong the story. Farah and Everette experience something most of us do at some point in our lives, being attracted to something we shouldn't be knowing they should walk away but can force themselves to do it. Instinct is the first book in the series promising mystery, suspense, desire, and emotional curiosities. I highly recommend this series for anyone looking for a fun quick vampire read that is not filled with the stereotypical story lines.
What a great start to a dark story that seems like it could get steamy. I love vampire books and this one was no exception. It is a short story that tell how Everette found Farah and planned to kill her as his prey but then started developing feelings for her that he was not familiar with at all. Farah is immediately attracted to Everette even though she knows he is dangerous but she can not keep herself away, agreeing to stay with him even though her instincts tell her not to. I can't wait to see what happens next. I received a review copy of this story and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
Instinct by Hanleigh Bradley is a Paranormal Romance Novelette that I listened to on audio narrated by Debbie Soelter.
This is the first book of Hanleigh’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger but that was no surprise since it is the first book in The Elite series. I can’t wait for book two Craving to be released on kindle on January 24, 2020.
Debbie did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
Everett’s a vampire who’s been around for a while. He’s not interested in being a good guy. He’s content with the monster that he is. So why is he so drawn to Farah? As he learns more about her, he can’t decide if he wants to love her or kill her.
An interesting little piece. I loved the contrast of Everett’s personality to Farah. This is a perfect listen for fans of PNR.
I loved the way the narrator used a whisper soft voice for Everett’s POV. It brought his character to life.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
This is one dark vampire story. The entire time, he’s either planning to drain her dry, or deliberating if/when to kill her. She’s utterly enthralled, but still completely aware of the danger, which makes it even darker. This is a short story (1 hour 31 min), and is a serial within a series, so there’s no resolution at the end of this book. Debbie Soelter’s reading of the story is at times stilted and overly breathy, but Everett and Farah’s voices sound distinctly different, which is appreciated.
I like this author’s twist on Everett. He is what I picture a vampire to be- Cold, calculating and no feelings. All of this changes when he smells Farah’s blood but he doesn’t change that much. He still wants to drain her dry but she evokes feelings in him that he has never had towards a human before. Everett still lets Farah know she it’s not safe with him and possibly could kill her and she is surprisingly OK with this. Will he kill her? Stay tuned for the next installment of this fascinating series!
This was a very short dark vampire tale. He is dark and dangerous and all he wants is to kill her. She is a human and should run from him far and fast because he wants her dead. You can feel something building between them as they fight what they feel, he still wants her dead. She seems a bit clueless at times but takes his crap. I enjoyed the narrator for this book. I am looking forward to the next book.
I received a free copy of this audio book from Story Origin for an honest review.
This is a seating type of read. It flows well and the it grabs you from the beginning. And boy, the scenes are super hot.
I like the way how the intimacy scenes were not just I have to be careful she is a human but more the struggle of how he wanted her vs how he wanted to bite her.
This was an interesting take on the vampire’s view and the prey’s view. Farah was a barista. Everett was a vampire that had an infatuation with her. His journey with her wasn’t his normal tryst with his food and we will have to find out why in the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book grabbed my attention from the moment that I started reading it. It moves along at a really nice pace for reading. The characters seem so real that you feel as though you know them personally and you want to see them succeed no matter what they need to do. The story grabs you and keeps you reading till you reach the very last page, this is a must read, no doubt about it.
I loved it. The unflinching stare, the darkness that surrounds Everette, his blatant desire for Farah. His quandry of does he drain her of her blood or slowly savor her? Hmmmm....decisions, decisions.
WOW!! I loved this vampire tale ❤ The story grabs you right from the start. I was instantly intrigued, loved the characters and wanted more! It's very fast paced and intense. My only complaint is how very short it is. I need more!!!!!
I loved everything about this book. It had me hooked from the prologue, I couldn't stop listening to it for a moment. I loved how it went between the main characters point of view, that really kept me on my toes. Overall this was an amazing book and I can't wait to listen to the second one.
