Kathleen Kelly was born on 14 July 1947 in the Central Valley of California, USA. She obtained a degree in Anthropology and also studied History at the University of California in Santa Barbara. She was a real estate broker, when she met her future husband, Larry Jay Martin. A short time after the two became acquainted, Larry asked her to read an unpublished manuscript of an historical western he'd written. Kat fell in love with both the book and the author! Then, after doing some editing for him, she thought she'd try her own hand at writing. She moved on to become a full time writer.
Published since 1988, she signed her books with her married name, Kat Martin, but she also used two pseudonyms: Kathy Lawrence for a book in collaboration with her husband Larry Jay Martin, and Kasey Mars for her first contemporary romances. The New York Times bestselling writer, among her many awards, has won the prestigious RT Book Review Magazine Career Achievement Award. To date, Kat has over eleven million copies of her books in print. She has been published in seventeen foreign countries, including England, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Greece, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Bulgaria, China, and Korea.
Currently residing with her husband, a Western-writer and photographer, in Missoula, Montana, USA. But when they are not writing, they also enjoy skiing and traveling, particularly to Europe.
"I've always loved books. I was an avid reader, with any number of my own stories rolling around in my head. Writing them down seemed a logical step."
"I love anything old," Kat says. "I love to travel and especially like to visit the places where my books are set. My husband and I often stay in out-of-the-way inns and houses built in times past. It's fun and it gives a wonderful sense of a by-gone era."
This is going on my favorites list! I have never read anything by this author before but i will definitely be looking for more of her books! this one was so fast paced and it kept me completely enthralled! the characters were amazing! When I got to the end of the book I really felt like i was saying goodbye to friends. I really liked how she made the story last over several weeks and months and didn't have the main characters expressing their undying love after a few days or even a week like some books i have read... there was so much adventure that she probably could have gotten away with two books from this one but the fact that she didn't makes me very happy! no waiting for book 2 to find out what happens!
This book really had me glued to the pages. From the first chapter, there was one exciting turn to another and I found myself continuously telling myself, “just one more chapter.. one more chapter!”
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action-packed adventure and an interesting love story.
If I had to read ohmygod! one more time I would have thrown my Kindle. The main characters were not likable at all. And I was very turned off at the thought of making love in the jungle after surviving a plane crash. I read the Kindle version and it seriously needed some proofreading. One character was named either Mal or Mai because he was called both. And randomly the wrong word would be used. Capitalization was very inconsistent. And there were no section breaks in the chapters when a new scene started.
I can't remember whether we actually gave this book a 2 or 3 on our podcast but it's somewhere around there. Between the kidnapping, the light sexual assault, and the white saviorism, this book is a rollercoaster. Oh and we can't forget about the jungle sex. So much jungle sex.
I really thought I'd like this book based on the summary but why would I want the two leads together after the violence he inflicted upon her? I don't care how the writer "justified" the actions, there was no reason to go there.

I loved this book. It captured my attention from the very beginning and held it. It is full of adventure and more importantly, misadventure. Ms. Martin writes some very enthralling and steamy love scenes amid all the action, and the suspense and mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat. I was amazed at the way Ms. Martin could weave a tale across continents, cultures, and numerous unsettling events without losing the depth of every character in the book. She is a very powerful writer. The ending proves this fact to the fullest as it isn't what one would expect. I was very surprised, but pleasantly. I can't wait to get my hands on some of her other novels.
I didn’t like the male lead at all. I guess I’m looking for a specific type of action hero and this guy was NOT IT. I was turned off by his internal monologue which basically consisted of him lusting after the FMC while also thinking about how much he hates blondes (she’s a blonde) and telling blonde jokes to himself. There were some scenes that seemed vaguely rape-y like when the MMC tore the FMCs clothes off and pretended to rape her to “protect” her from the people who actually did want to rape her. The FMC seemed to rush into everything without any thought or plan which made her TSTL and not really likable.
An unwanted adventure of a lifetime has Allie Parker as an unwilling passenger on a boat carrying dangerous men and deadly cargo with only one ally Jake Dawson and he tells her that she must do exactly as he tells her if she wants to stay alive. An interesting adventure/mystery/love story. This is a fast-paced story lasting over many weeks and months. As the characters fight danger and fight their love for each other, Ms. Martin draws you into the story. Keeps you turning the pages to see what's next.
I like this action romance with a little bit of comedy. Allie Parker wanted to find out who and why her friend Chrissy was killed in a boat explosion. Her curiosity got her stranded on Dynasty II as the boat left for its run to Mexico with undercover ATF agent Jake Dawson. It was never a dull moment once these two met each other. This novel is a page turner and look forward to another Kat Martin novel.
First time reading this author. I really enjoyed this book, as it was not just all romance and sex. It actually had a plot. Allie, is investigating her best friends death. She sneaks on a boat, to look for clues. Unfortunately for her, the boat leaves on its journey. She meets Jake, on the boat, and has to pretend she is his woman. That is to keep her safe, from the other men on the boat. Things are not always, as they appear to be.
I really enjoyed this book. There was good character development and the story kept the reader intrigued. This is one of Kat Martin’s older books, but I think it is still timely, however a little updating to fit the current political and social environment would move it from 4 stars to 5 stars for me.
I enjoyed this book the first time I read it - back in 2002, when it first came out. I wish the publisher would have warned me about that as I didn't enjoy it as much this time around. While it's still a good book, my tastes have changed in eighteen years. I am still a fan of Kat Martin and will still read her books - when new ones come out.
It took me a bit to get into this book. I didn't like Jake at all at first, especially when he slapped Allie. I though she forgave him too easily, even when he explained why. I still think that could have been handled differently. But he soon won me over, and it ended up being a really good story. I always enjoy good Kat Martin book!
Easy, fun read. I liked the main characters....the ATF action and the 'action' between the two main characters. I have read a couple of Kat Martin's books and they have all been fun.
Kat Martin is such an amazing story teller. However I had a harder time getting into this one. Once I got about 1/2 way through I did feel as though the book picked up. Loved the end!
there was definitely some plot in there. i guess. a bit too much of something else at times. and the characters weren't very likable or realistic? best character was miguel.

Are you brave enough to stay and love me?
Mary Alice Parker watched as her best friend and roommate died in a horrific explosion. Not getting anywhere with the police Allie takes the case on and starts her own investigation. This is not the best move but friendship is priceless and everyone needs closure. After some snooping and searching, Allie finds herself as a stowaway on a yacht that is set for ports unknown.
Allie is terrified when she is caught and fears what the two men standing in front of her are about to do. To Allie’s surprise the captain Jacob Michael Dawson steps up to save her. Jake looks like trouble surrounded by a stunning package but can Allie trust him not to hurt her. He is very clear about the danger they are in and tells her to behave but Allie has her own ideas and most of them involve escape. When escaping proves to be not an option Allie starts to realize Jake is not the enemy he may in fact just be her salvation.
She has put the pieces of what the yacht was really carrying and just how much danger they are in. When things go from horribly wrong to downright horrific Allie finds herself stranded in the jungle with Jake knee deep in mud and bugs and her only thought survival. Once Jake tells her what is really going on she tries to believe him, but still there is the doubt that perhaps he is playing everyone. When Jake and Allie enter the belly of the beast, they must lean on each other and being held through the night sure does help ease the pain.
Reading any Kat Martin book regardless of the genre always provides you with the romance and adventure in perfect proportions. This book was published in 2002 and the writing style of Ms. Martin has changed over time. However, her ability with character building and relationships come shining through. A must read for all Kat Martin fans!
This was an amazing book. It came out in 2002 & thanks to the new cover... which does matter... It was a great read with a hot guy to picture. I love a hot 6 foot 4" ex special forces guy any day!
Sooo, Allie stows away on a boat/small yacht which belongs to the man she believes killed her best friend. Actually she sneaks on board to search for some evidence & people get on, she can't escape, so she hides. She's found by a lowly Mexican gang like man (very very bad guy) & the head of the op, decides he gets to use her while they are on their trip until he tires of her. Ahhh don't fret, we all know he's really a good guy & all of that is predictable....
They end up crashed in a jungle & hiking to the militant camp in Belize to sell (stuff)... Stuff happens, and I thought it was near over several times, but I wasn't even 2/3 done with the book.
I loved that it was about a trip from SanDiego to Belize. I knew what she was talking about & where. At one point she talked about a store open late & I said to myself that it closed at 6pm where she was talking about & it was clarified as to why & that YES they are closed at 6... just saying... Even the where's & whats of the city were real. As for the jungle, I am not sure. A realistic crime & undercover op, yes it's believable.
This book was one I started last night & hated to put it down, so during a Saturday, I would sneak off & read while people thought I was busy doing normal weekend chores (hahaha) Actually everyone else was doing things they were supposed to do 2 weeks ago & felt I needed to look busy even though I finished what I was supposed to do 2 weeks ago.
This was my real first Kat Martin book & she has me hooked!
I would say she's like Cindy gerard in her Romantic Suspense books but I have no idea yet about her historical books. NOW... I am off to find another book!
I LOED the concept and story of this book. And I am almost always hard pressed to find a well told story plot like it. I give it three stars only because the beginning was a little slow for me as it set up the sory. I felt that we knew what was going on so it could've been better. The second reason is becuase the side romance of Barb's I felt was a little unneeded. I enjoyed it but it didn't need full chapters dedicated to her becuase she wasn't the concentration on the story and it took away from Allie and Jake. Allie and Jake I thought were fantastic characters. Allie was strong and like many woman today not knowing what she wants to do in life but lookin for it, strong, smart with a mind of her own and more than ready to speak it. Jake is strong, smart and slightly cynical but there's a part of him that wants more but because of the betrayals of the past he he finds it difficult to see that what he wants is right in front of him. Instead he protects hmself withcynism...in the form of blond jokes. Which becuase I love the character so muc I found it forgiveable. In another review someone took down the stars becuase of the use of blond jokes and their number. This didn't bother me becuase I felt that it was a defenisve sheild for Jake and I understood that and...some were funny. Allie and Jake together are nothing less than entertaining. I love there interactions together as they have to rely on each other for survival and fall in love along the way. Their trials were not only intersting and exciting but also very real. I fully enjoyed this book from how it was written to characters and story.
Mary Alice Parker (Allie) watched as her best friend and roommate who she was seeing off at the marina to go off with her boyfriend die when then boat exploded minutes after taking off. Not getting anywhere with the police Allie takes the case on and starts her own investigation. This leads her back to the marina to another boat own my the big wig Felix Baranoff who she thinks had something to do with her friends death.
This starts off a crazy adeventure. First her getting caught on the boat after it takes off and she has to pretend to be the Captain's woman so the two thugs that are also onboard dont rape and kill her.
Jake Dawson has been uncover on this op for a while and wants nothing more than to bring Felix down and this little blonde woman is not going to prevent his from his mission.
Things go from bad to worse after docking in Belize. Her and Jake find themselves stranded in the jungle after the plane crashes they were on.
I understand this is a reissue but I tell you as reading it didnt feel that way. This was a great book. Plenty of action and romance and even comedy.
