When caught in a compromising position, Lucien Montaine, the Marquess of Litchfield, is forced to marry Lady Kathryn Grayson. Knowing that she would be despised by Lucien for her act of treachery, Kathryn knew no other way to escape from the evil clutches of her guardian uncle Douglas Roth, the Earl of Dunston. Lucien was attracted to Kathryn’s beauty but it took awhile for him to forgive her for what she had done. Lucien was an organized man who had his life all planned out until he met the whi ...more
Meh. I didn’t read the back cover before starting this but I guess it clearly states the heroine, Kathryn, forces the hero, Lucien, into marriage. Not a fan of that, I must say.

Katherine is under her evil uncles care, who basically locks her away in an insane asylum and wastes away her fortune. She escapes and happens across the hero’s carriage and stows away. He finds her and thus they meet and get to know each other.

She traps him into marriage by planning to seduce him, although her feelings a

Opening a hole in the suffocating boy`s throat was almost identical with another book. Couldn't check which book was written first since I couldn't remember the name that book.

Shelly's review here pretty much captures my opinion of the book. There were lots of features of it that I just didn't find believable. It was annoying. Super annoying.

It was also published in 2000, but there was a real 1980s "bodice ripper" feel to it. Maybe it's because the hero ripped the heroine's clothing repeatedly while ravishing her. I don't know. That "taste" of the 1980s was really disappointing to me. I don't expect that in recently published romance novels.

Silk and steel is another fantastic historical romance by Kat Martin.
Lady Kathryn is the victim of her greedy uncle who decides to steal her fortune by committing her to an insane asylum so when she escapes and ends up in the carriage of Lucien Montaine, Marquess of Litchfeild, she begs him to help her and saves her from her greedy guardian.
This is an amazing historical romance with lots of twists and turns, passions, dangers and emotions.
Thank you Kat Martin

This was the very first book I read that got me interested in historical romance! Years later I still come back to it, there are moments that are unexpected and just when the reader thinks they know what's going on (since we've all read so many plots/books) it shifts. I've read other books by Kat Martin but nothing compares to my first love.

Enjoyed this one, it was a little different story with some interesting twists. Lady Katheryn escapes and ends up needing Lucien to help her. She is frightened and therefore often does things that keep the story interesting.

very good book, you felt what the characters felt in the book. Very emotional
3.75 Stars.
Kathryn is an interesting heroine in that she faces some seriously atypical challenges for the genre. A passionate student of medicine - she is wrongly locked in a mental institution by a scheming uncle after her fortune. Upon her escape she stumbles into the organized life of Lucien Montaine. He's the perfect champion - with one catch: he's got a fiancee and doesn't believe in marrying for love but for a biddable bride to do as he wishes and produce offspring.
Some great storytelling

La he disfrutado mucho.

Fine, romance arc was fine and characters interesting, her suffering was a bit too false (should've been worse for the impact)

I got halfway through but then had to stop for these three reasons:

1. Holy crap, if I see the phrase "her small breasts" or some variation thereof again I'm going to scream.

2. Kathryn is locked up in St Bartholomew's Hospital because her uncle said she was insane. As far as I know, St Bart's was not an insane asylum and was an actual working hospital for sick folk (see A Study in Scarlet, where Holmes & Watson first meet in one of the labs). Bethlem Royal Hospital, on the other hand, was "a

The premise of the book involving Kat escaping from an institution and finding refuge with Lucien was the only reason I picked up the book and I found that interesting and decently played out. However, there were several little plots and characters that were not fleshed out so that when they were resolved it almost felt like going down a checklist to get to the end of the story. They probably could have been omitted so more space could be given to Kat and Lucien's developing relationship during ...more

Historical romance is no longer my favorite genre, but I have a ton of them and I have really enjoyed Kat Martin's Against the... series so I grabbed this as an escape from the murder and mayhem I usually read. Unfortunately, it did not measure up.

Lady Kathryn Grayson has been sent to the insane asylum, St. Barts, by her evil uncle so he can control her fortune and not put up with her or her very unladylike interest in medicine. She escapes and stows away in the luggage boot of Lucien Montaine,
