A brilliant shower of stars fills the evening sky. An 8-year-old girl named Stella watches the sky with a pair of huge binoculars. The New World Girls are landing on Earth! Stella is there to greet them, but... where is the girls' faithful companion, Elipup?! Join the NWG as they save their friend and explore a new planet. "First Landing on Earth" is the first book in the New World Girls series. New World Girls (NWG) come from a community of diverse planets in a galaxy far away. (That said, all of the girls have great grandmothers from planet Earth.) These five cross-cultural "super girls" and their mystical mascot, Elipup, have been sent on a mission from Transform U., their "school in the sky," to help the people of Planet Earth solve problems, such as global warming, ensuring equal rights for all, and creating a more peaceful world.
Carolyn Wagner is a proud first-generation American, who has lived and worked around the world, and is grateful for having had the chance to make friends abroad, and learn about their beautiful countries, cultures and traditions. She is an Award winning “creative” from both the design and ad worlds, and loves bringing visions to life.
She learned from many years of running her own creative consulting firm just how crucial it is to be authentic, tell the truth, and treat one another with kindness. She has found fulfillment in empowering and mentoring young women and men with this ethos.
She is passionate about kids, and especially empowering young girls. Combining this with her continued cultural learning through studying the wisdom of elders, teachers, and ancient ways, she looks forward to bringing their stories and learning to future generations through storytelling with New World Girls.
She is in turn thankful to all her amazing teachers and mentors, for her most amazing illustrator and friend Alice Wong and editor David Tabatsky and especially to her longtime friend Bonita Winer, with whom she started the New World Girls journey long ago.
My 11-year old niece loved this book! I also loved the book -- it's one of those rare books written for children that delights adults, too. This first installment of the New World Girls series is so enchanting and inspiring, I can't wait for the next one! Bravo Ms. Wagner -- we're so lucky to have you sending messages of empowerment to today's girls, who need it so dearly.
New World Girls: First Mission is an incredibly creative way to teach young girls to be curious, adventurous and brave enough to step into their own power. All while learning about another culture. I wish these books had been available when my daughter was a child. It's brilliantly written and illustrated. I can't wait for the next one to release!!
