The authors provide an eminently sensible approach regarding ‘healthy hierarchies’ all the while remaining focused on the customer. It seemed to me that these authors were recognizing the impact of “empowerment” and the dismantling of the “command-and-control” structure that has so dominated organizational life for the past 50 years. Enabled by technology, organizational “boundarylessness” has opened up a brand new way of being and doing in the workplace. Perhaps one can think of “boundarylessness” as a means toward encouraging authentic workplaces.
