I read the 1979 version with Beverly Gooding as the illustrator and the drawings were very whimsical and beautiful. It was a lovely read, a little more advanced reading for little ones but perfect for ones that can read on their own.

This book is great, in a novel format. As an easy reader, not so much. This book felt random. We open on 2 friends who want to visit a neighbor, then are taken on a random adventure. There is no moral or lessen, as there seems to be with Toad's antics in the novel. It randomly ends with Toad uninterested in the carriage he had been inspired by in the beginning of the story. He then on the last page buys a car. Just random.

Ethan wasn't impressed with this book. He would barely listen as I read. I believe the big words/vocabulary was too much for him & I was trying to explain some things to him but this one just didn't catch his interest.

I know it's a classic but yeah, not classic enough for my kid to enjoy, ha.
