I used to be an avid reader of cozy mysteries, and I'm not sure why I fell off track with them. As I continue to age, I've found myself developing that need again to balance out the dark, heavy, and unsettling reads with books that are light, upbeat, and a little humorous. Cozy mysteries are perfect for this, because they typically envelope all the things I love about romantic comedies while inserting a good old fashioned murder or crime that needs solving. Mimi Lee checked so many of m
Cozy and cute. This was a quick fun cozy mystery with some sass and charm. Mimi it’s 25 living in LA and has just opened her own business, a dog grooming business - Hollywoof. MIMI LEE GETS A CLUE is a delightful book. Full of humor, memorable characters, and lovable animals, this fast-paced story kept me entertained from beginning to end. Add in a mystery that keeps you wondering, and Chow's new series becomes the perfect pick for cozy fans.

A BIG thanks to Berkley Prime Crime!

Oh my word!

As my neighbor was known to say, never in all my born days! I was reading this book at the bakery and laughing so hard, the random guy at the next table asked me, if I was ok!

Mimi is a refreshing new sleuth. She's petite, cute, charming, fun, spunky, lovable and determined to discover the identity of a killer. And then there's Marshmallow! I love the cat's name! Marshmallow is a big puff, of apparently, overweight fur. Marshmallow has plenty of cata

This is a paws-itively wonderful book. Marshmellow, the cat who speaks to Mimi; adorable Chihuhuas and a murder mystery. This delightful book has it all.

This was such a fun cozy mystery! It reminded me of the Cat Who series thanks to the purr-sonality of Marshmallow the cat, who totally stole the show. With great humor, a unique cast of characters, and a cool setting of LA, I can't wait to read the next book! ...more

A cute, cozy mystery that is light on the mystery and heavy on the fun and puns! I love the premise for this book, and Mimi Lee is a fun character. I totally fell in love with Marshmallow—who doesn’t kind of love knowing the deep thoughts of their pet??

You know you are in a cozy mystery when you begin a book and the setting is a cute business owned by the lead character with a punny-name—in this case, an LA pet grooming business named Hollywoof! Mim’s sister (who I loved—Mimi’s family were all g

So much fun:) Marshmallow was a hoot, can I have visiting time with him? I'll be a good cat 🐈 sister:) wish the pet-owner telepathy was real, be awesome to communicate with my furfamily like that l.. especially when I'm working when we miss each other.

I just wish some of the cozy mysteries didn't include romance. Nothing against it but sometimes the plot gets pushed aside (luckily not the case here.. beginning

DNF. I love cats, so I thought I might like a mystery about a talking cat, but...not so much. The whole talking cat thing didn't really work for me and the writing never drew me in. ...more
Easily 5 stars, if I could rate it more I would. Marshmallow is one of the best characters I’ve ever read and the fact he’s a talking cat made this book even the better!

I think I read this in half a day. I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t care what I needed to do, read the book was all I could think about.

I loved that this took place in LA cause I’ve been there so I could picture the setting while reading it. I’m eagerly awaiting book two!

I'm a sucker for two things: a good cozy mystery and cats. Jennifer Chow gives me both with Mimi Lee Gets a Clue. As a cat lover, I've often imagined what my cat's meows and judgy looks mean. Thanks to Mimi, I don't have to wonder because I'd imagine my cat is just as sassy and surly as Marshmallow.

Using Marshmallow to help her get information is genius and using him to communicate with other pets, especially dogs, was particularly amusing.

I loved Chow jumping in and giving Mimi a romantic part

I had a feeling Mimi Lee Gets a Clue would lift my spirits in the middle of this troubling and uncertain time, and I was right. A light mystery involving an oversize talking cat named Marshmallow, a hilarious mother trying to set up her "aging" twenty-five-year-old daughter on dates, a dog-grooming business called Hollywoof, and the heroine herself, the quiet but unexpectedly fierce Mimi Lee - what's not to like? This novel is a perfect escape. The fact that it's set in Southern California adds ...more
Mimi Lee Gets a Clue is the first book in the Sassy Cat Mystery series and I am happy to report that the kitty in this series, Marshmallow, was very much a contributing character. He was a great addition to this story and if cats could truly talk, I believe they would all sound like him. Although, he may be a cut above the rest. Also, note, that as this is the first book in the series, there is a lot of information given about Mimi, her friends, family, and business. Do not let that be a turn of ...more

This was a light, sweet book to read. I love cozy mysteries and love to read them, especially after reading a gripping, heart pounding thriller. The star of this new series is Marshmallow the cat. I think we have all wondered exactly what our pets are thinking or saying and in this book, Marshmallow's owner, Mimi Lee, gets that chance. I have to say that Mimi's mother grated on my nerves...she was overly pushy. The "love story" with Mimi Lee's neighbor adds to the action of the book. If I am hon ...more

Welcome to Tea Time Tuesday, my Fellow Book Dragons! This evening’s Gem is very beautiful. It is an opaque white jade cat, beautifully carved with bright, aquamarine eyes. Hold it in your claws and you can almost feel it purring it. This cat is no ordinary cat. This cat brings wisdom, luck and a bit of romance. Jennifer Chow is a new to me author but she’s quickly moved to the top of my favorite author list. I have to admit I was drawn to MIMI LEE GETS A CLUE because I had a fluffy white Persian named Marshmallow although I called him Mel. And while he didn’t speak quite the way Marshmallow does, he, like most cats, communicated his wants and needs quite clearly.

Chow treats her readers to a well told mystery along with some cultural education and a dose of laughs. Mimi is a great character. She’s smar

This is the first book in A Sassy Cat mystery by Jennifer J. Chow

This was a stunner of a new series by Chow. Since I am allergic to animals, reading about them is probably one of the few ways I can indulge my secret love of God's furry creatures.

I really enjoyed the gimmick of this book and thought it was done very well. Mimi Lee can hear her cat Marshmallow through a sort of psychic connection. He became like her sidekick through all the danger and mayhem.

This book centered around animals sinc

I haven't read a cozy mystery since...high school? It's been a while, and it was never a main genre of mine, but I could not resist the cute cover or the heavy cat-ness. This is very cute!

So I really love the setup for this series. The heroine, Mimi Lee, is a pet groomer who just opened up a store called Hollywoof. Though she prefers dogs, her sister finds a cat in need of a home and gives the big fluffy white cat to Mimi, who adopts him and names him Marshmallow. Turns out Marshmallow can talk

Mimi Lee Gets A Clue is a cozy mystery with a talking cat as a sidekick. Mimi has just opened her pet grooming business and her sister brings her a fluffy shelter cat. She reluctantly accepts him and names him Marshmallow. When a dubious dog breeder is found dead Mimi is implicated and she must find the killer before she's the one thrown in jail.

I loved Marshmallow right away. He's adorable and provides humor. It's also a nice take on a sleuthing sidekick as he not only provides biting commenta

This was a very cute cozy mystery. Marshamallow is just so stinking cute. Also, can I get a hand for Shirl & her You Tube shirts?

I had a few issues with this one. I could have dealt without the romance. I love that Mimi just rolls with it and starts communicating with her cat.

Mimi Lee and Marshmellow the cat are a really cute pair of mystery solvers! The story follows Mimi Lee, a pet groomer, and her super cute kitty Marshmellow. A little twist - the kitty can talk to Mimi and he helps her solve a murder!

The story is super cute and really that's all I can say about it. Overall there wasn't a lot of substance to it. The characters didn't have much to them. I struggled to like Mimis mother. She was overbearing and too involved in Mimis life. I found myself annoyed eve

This first book in the Sassy Cat Mystery series by Jennifer Chow, Mimi Lee Gets A Clue, is a delightful cozy mystery set in the Los Angeles area. I loved the protagonist, Mimi Lee, and her quirky, sassy sidekick cat, Marshmallow! The two make an excellent sleuthing team as they investigate first an abhorrent dog breeder and then his subsequent murder. While I rarely read “talking animal” books, Ms. Chow provides so much humor via Marshmallow’s droll dialog that I ended up looking forward to each ...more

Mimi Lee has a lot on her plate. She has just opened her pet grooming shop, HollyWoof, and has a lack of clients. Her meddling, but well-intentioned mother is determined to find her a boyfriend. And, oh yes, her new cat Marshmallow can talk to her. What she doesn't need is to be mixed up in a murder. But that's exactly what happens when she looks into a suspicious puppy breeder.

Mimi and her family are fun and engaging characters and Marshmallow is a hoot. The mystery was full of twists and turn

Mimi is the prime suspect in this cozy murder mystery, and she is determined to clear her name and further expose the murder victim's cruelty to the Chihuahua dogs he bred as well as who actually did kill him. She enlists the help of her neighbor, a young lawyer named Josh. The reader gets an inside look at the upper crust of the Hollywood dog scene: doggy yoga and dog acupuncture, included as Mimi attempts to get to the bottom of the crime.

As much as I love cats, I am not always a fan of talkin
