Black knows his wife will be targeted by both sides once they realize what she can do, what her newfound powers really mean.

The vampire race is massing, preparing for all-out war.
Meanwhile, riots rage, and Charles, the seer who decided to take over the planet from the human race, is locking down the country, preparing for that final confrontation.

When he finally loses his cool, the whole world may pay the price.

Black of Hearts is the twelfth book in the Quentin Black Mystery series by J.C. Andrijeski. WHY? WHY? WHY? Have I not discovered this author before now? I have seriously been missing out on some stellar reads, and that is something I plan to remedy starting immediately. This turned out to be quite the epic book binge- and I enjoyed every single second- even if the author constantly had my heart in my mouth, or had me pulling my hair out in frustration, or seemed to delight in toying with my emotions pretty much the entire time- I willingly went back for more each and every time. Sixteen books in and I can’t wait for more!!! Seriously, this series truly is a MUST-READ, especially for anyone who loves really original paranormal mysteries with incredible world-building and scene setting. If you love immersive reads, then this is definitely the series for you! But be warned, this isn’t a ‘light and fluffy’ cozy paranormal mystery- this has plenty of gritty, raw, violent, emotive, and a ‘hang on to your seat’ and brace yourselves because this is going to get INTENSE situations. There are potential triggers contained through the series- such as violence, murder, abuse, sexual abuse, manipulation, graphic language and more. So keep that in mind if you are sensitive to any of those subjects. I stumbled on this series purely by accident, and this is another fortuitous find of late, because not only was I hooked on the story within the first few pages and practically inhaled the entire series back-to-back…. it is also turned out to be entirely addictive reading, with Ms. Andrijeski’s stellar storytelling talents, her clever and intriguing touches, the many well-developed and interesting characters, the brilliant ‘world’ creation, and all the other rich layers and ‘flavours’ she poured into her pages, made the real world fade away as I was swept along on adventure after adventure. J.C. Andrijeski’s world building skills are sheer perfection, putting me front and centre to all the action-packed developments in this immersive, captivating, and addictive book/series. I am so hooked on her work now and will happily devour anything she ever produces- so I see plenty of book binges in my future. This is a heart-stopping, action-packed, intense, mystery with tension, intrigue, seers, vampires, chemistry, sizzle, science fiction, crime, investigation, deadly games of cat and mouse, murder, violence drama, danger, friendship, politics, agendas, and so much more that I won’t get into here because I really don’t want to spoil it for you. Ms. Andrijeski has a bold, dynamic, and very vivid writing style that easily brings her story to life- it was like watching a movie play out before my eyes, The descriptions are quite detailed and painted a powerful picture- I really could see this making a fantastic movie or television series. Highly Recommended Reading!!! Happy Reading…
Black of Hearts by JC Andrijeski is the 12th book in the Quentin Black series. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains spoilers! This book starts with Miri and Black somewhere else, somewhere not earth, where Miri can practice her “disappearing.” When they return to earth, it’s the same night they left. Charles knows the biggest threat to his world order is the vampires, so he is building a wall along the Mexican border. But it’s not just any wall. It’s surrounded by land mines and watch towers manned with troops. The vampires storm the wall with mind controlled humans, and enter the US where they are penned down. Brick contacts Black for help. Despite everything that has happened, namely Nick, they must work together or Charles will never be defeated. But Charles can’t know they are working together or he can declare Black an enemy of the state and seize all of his assets and people. So Black, Miri, and their people end up in tunnels in the dessert close to the wall trying to get everyone to safety. But Miri is a few steps behind and a bomb goes off right in front of her and she is taken. By who? Black goes after her and he too is taken! Black ends up in the Pentagon, but he’s a lot stronger than Charles realizes. Miri ends up where? They have removed the locator chips and besides most of Black’s people are penned down in the dessert. Who will find and rescue her? Who can locate her through a blood link? Who is left? Another thrilling, fast paced, action filled story with twists and turns you will never see coming! JC never disappoints! If you like Quentin Black, you have to read Black of Hearts!

„Black of Hearts“ – book twelve in the Quentin Black Mysteries Series – is a real page turner from the very beginning.
Miri and Black are (not totally willingly) back from their time-out/vacation in Urtre, (the heavenly-like dimension), they get thrown down right into a war between seers and vampires with human catch in the middle. The situation is volatile, Black is fighting to keep his abilities and temper under control and when Miri is kidnapped all bets are off…. It is a fantastic story, true to the QB-Verse and highly unexpected at the same time. If offers a deeper insight into Black psyche and character, while finally resolving the twist around Nick. Miri and Black relationship deepen even more, and more, much more is still to come…
The book is a roller-coaster of action, unexpected situations, new plot directions and storylines, with surprising character development that brings the whole QB-Verse to brand-new levels. JC Andrijeski has the rare ability to create a whole new world, alien and familiar at the same time. Her writing style is fluid and fast-paced, which helps to get across the action elements without disregarding the more subtle romantic aspects of the story arc.
I heartily recommend the book to any dark urban fantasy fan, while the book is a good start as any in the series, it will be preferable to read at least “Black in White” the first book in the series to get a glimpse of the QB-Verse. But… be warned… once you get to know Quentin Black & Miri… you’ll probably…. cannot have enough 😊
Miri and Black are back to their own version of Earth and have to face the growing race war with very dark implications. He knows that Miri will be targeted by both sides of the conflict when they realise what her new powers are really capable of but in the meantime, it appears that Nick is still missing, they are assuming that Dalejem is dead, the vampire race is preparing for an all-out war, riots are raging in the human population and Miri's seer uncle is still aiming to take over the planet and is locking down the country. Then Black feels it - he is caught and Miri is caught too. When he realises that the separation pain and panic will be enough for him to lose his cool - something they are going to regret. The question is can they find each other and can Miri calm him back down?
OMG - so many interesting events happened in this story that involved all of the races, Black, Miri, Nick and Dalejem in particular. The problem with such a book like this is you can't put it down, you need time to catch up in your mind to all the events as they happened, and you just have a NEED to know what is going to happen next - especially as it felt that it ended on a cliffhanger. Well written and clear/easy to understand, this book was a joy to read and the book pushed the Quentin Black story in an interesting direction that I'm looking forward to reading in the future.
This story is full of lots of surprises and twists as you can expect from this series. For once they are positive ones for Miri and Black. I was wondering how things could possibly work out for them without years of war and hiding from Charles. I had envisioned lots of lost friends which is even more devastating considering many of their friends have already been through at least one other war. I loved watching Miri come into her own. Despite having served she always seemed like the weak link in her team but not anymore. She is a force to be reckoned with. We also get to find out what happens with Jem and Nick. That alone makes the story worth reading. However there are greater insights into Brick’s and Charles’s motivations which are also long awaited. I didn’t want to make it this down it was so enticing.
Uncle Charles has been busy ,using mind controlled humans to build a wall around the US, in order to isolate it from the rest of the world. He plans to kill all the vampires, and eliminate most humans, except the ones he needs as slaves. Then he will rule the world with his seers.
Black, Miri and co. form a shaky alliance with Brick and his people to stop Charles.
Miri has an incredible new ability, and Black has become a shapeshifter. He also has an alternate consciousness named Coreq, a dark side.
Then both Miri and Black vanish.
Meanwhile, Dalajem is a putting Nick thru vampire detox.
And who would have thought that Nick would become Miri's unlikely savior?
It looks like Charles is about to get what's coming to him, finally.
That ending was pretty fucking epic, what can I say.
So this book was largely about Nick and Jem's journey, Miri and especially Black didn't really claim the stage. Which was okay for me. Love the place where Nick and Jem are at at the moment, I even feel a combination of horrible amusement at Solonik's predicament. I really have a long lasting hate relationship with Solonik but he amused me. Yeah. Loved the reunion of Miri and Nick and I can only hope he will be received as smoothly with the rest of the team in the next book. Probably not. Poor guy...
The ending blew my mind. Go fucking Go Miri!!! Love how the cunning Mr. Lucifer, Lucky Lucifer, Charles Andrey Vasiliev, Faustus, is wholly and utterly screwed. He totally lost his cool and might worship Black as of yet.
I don't know what I was imagining when I started to read this latest QB story but this was definately a surprise. After reading Midnight the series in a future after QB, I did want to know what happened to Nic in the past . Midnight did not explain how Nic ended up in his new situation. A little of what I wanted to know I found out which was good, There are an awful lot of unexpected things going on here that I need to get my head round. The story is going in a direction taking it to new levels.. I think I will have to read the next book to really know how I feel about this story line. It is an exciting scenario with Miri taking an increasing leading role it seems to me. She is very much supporting QB now as much as she can
Wow!!! I'm used to being breathless when I finish another book in this series but this one tried my patience even more. Every time Ms Andrijeski ramped up the suspense to just before...., new chapter! I know, I know, advanced writing skills. Not so good for my blood pressure! And she's so good at torturing with small tidbits that seem to be just an aside but become the aha-moment later. So skipping pages to get to the resolution sooner is out of the question. Let me just say this much, I hope you, Ms JC, are already writing the next story in the series! Otherwise I'll...., I don't know! Chain you to your computer? Seriously, the quality of this and all other books in her multiple series' over such a long time is outstanding. No sequel sag here!
Black of Hearts, book 12 of the Quentin Black series, is a novel I picked up during my Kindle Unlimited trial. Once again, this author astounded me with her ability to keep character and plot-lines fresh this far int the series. The attention to detail and the way she connects seemingly unrelated or random events is masterful. While the pacing felt slower (lots of waiting around), there was a lot of story progression and awesome reveals that held my attention through the story to the shocker of an ending. One of my favorite series because of the layers, character depth, and intricate worldbuilding--and because of all that, the series should be read in order or too much nuance and backstory will leave dazed.
Black and Miri are missing, taken. Unfortunately for everyone good or bad they have not been taken by one group but two different opposing forces.
As the bonded pair struggle with being separated it becomes apparent how far Black will go to get her back. Kill humans, check. Kill seers, double check. Destroy the world, maybe! Can this be it? Is the end of the world in sight? Or can Black's friends, frenemies, Seers, Humans, Vampires alike somehow reunite the couple before all hell rains down on the earth.
A brilliant, terrifying entry in the Quentin Black series. An introduction to the true powers that our heroes can wield. The beginning of the end? Or the end of the beginning? Only time will tell. Next please....
JCA remains one of my favorite authors. The stories are always above average, this one included. I love the characters and can hardly wait for the next step in this world. I am also extremely grateful JCA has allowed this series to be placed on KU for those of us who are retired and on a fixed income. We readers are so lucky to have access to such top quality writing. Don’t miss this series!
In the the Quintin and Miri world, we are brought deeper into the machinations of those who want it all at all cost. But what they didn’t expect and received in their actions will blow you away. Mind boggling, action packed. The unimaginable and incredulous First beliefs made imaginable and real.
Readers of Andrijeski will be so satisfied (hopefully) that questions will be answered (from the beginnings of her writings)...maybe! Forgiveness Loyalty Love
Black Of Hearts: A Quentin Black Paranormal Mystery Romance...
Quentin Black Mystery book 12. Another fanfreakingtastic read. Hella drama and action. A dragon, vampires and a disappearing wife on my. Black and Miri try to save the world with some very interesting help. But as usual it is never that simple. Somebody gets kidnapped. Somebody is captured. Somebody is in tunnels. A mission ensues with the strangest of rescuers. I love love love this series.
What an ending! Dang! Fantastic! Not saying anything to spoil this story. Just know this is dramatic, suspenseful, will keep you at the edge of the precipice in anticipation for the next scene, grab tissues you will need them, grab yourselves snacks a glass a wine maybe two. Awesome! This really needs to be a series on HBO or something, you hear this PRIME? A damn series!
JC Andrijeski is one of my favorite authors. She NEVER disappoints. This book -- #12 in the Black series -- was one of her best. I loved that she resolved some issues with characters -- my lips are buttoned tight. I'm not squealing. Her pacing is fast. Her characters can be counted on. Charles is still a bastard.
The writer manages to keep the action and excitement high in this. Nice to see Nick back into the mix with his interesting romantic twist. Black continues to be intriguing, childish and in love with Miri. She continues to pick the wrong time not to tell him things but it all works beautifully.
Wow! I rarely write book reviews but JC Andrijeski has outdone herself. These characters have been changing and growing through 17 books and novellas, you think what more can she write?! Well let me reassure you, plenty. You can't jump into the series; you have to start at the beginning but it's well worth it.
The excitement and action scenes in the book are so intense. Surprises involving Black, Nick and Miri will keep you so involved in reading that you won't want to put it down. Wow! I loved it.
This installment was intense. Book #12 in the Quentin Black series just never stopped surprising me. It’s worth reading twice, but I need to know what happened next. So, it’s on to book #13.
Absolutely loved this book. Can't wait to read Black Hawaii and find out what happens next. Just love these characters and the way they have developed. Ms. Andrijevski is a masterful storyteller.
Paranormal lover . . . readers just pick it up. I read thirteen novels in three weeks and could not place it down. Yes, there are cliffhangers, which draw you in too buy the next novel. But, worthy read.
Wow…just wow! This one is so action-packed that it’s still hard for me to process. Transformations, separations, reunions, captures, escapes…and a puppy! 😳💛
If possible I would give this book 10 stars because it was exceptionally excellent! Through most of the book Miri is held captive and Black is.....welllll let's say for the sake of not spoiling anything....flying out of his skin looking for her.
Uncle Charles has control of the U.S. government and has commenced his plan to take over this earth. He has control of the president, the pentagon and all the weapons and soldiers that comes along with that ultimate power. To win this war Charles doesn't care about the human lives he manipulates and destroys. Nothing will get in his way to control this earth and he is willing to annihilate humans, the vampires and any seers who don't agree with his politics.
Everything appears to be going his way until Black and Miri form an alliance with Brick. Yeah remember Brick, the King of the vampires, the one who sired Nick. After the alliance, for a minute all is well and then it seems everything goes to hell. When Miri gets taken by an unknown group Black goes crazy. This painful separation is too much for the bonded couple. Their emotions are in overdrive and those unfortunate enough to witness their physical pain become victims of their tortured souls. During this separation they both advance to unexpected manifestations of their powers. Well maybe not completely unexpected. We were getting hints of their power from previous books. In this book, we see the raw power and strength of their abilities. Truly awesome!
While Uncle Charles is taking over the world and Black looks for Miri, Dalejem holds Naoko hostage in a cabin in Russia. Dalejem has an agenda that includes helping Naoko remember Nick so that he can heal and forgive himself for the unforgivable things he did as Naoko. JC wrote this story of Nick and Dalejem so well I wanted to cry. The outcome was utterly unexpected and left me speechless. I needed a glass of wine to slow down my beating heart but I won't say if my heart was beating too fast because I was extremely happy or extremely sad. I will say that my feelings about the story involving Nick and Dalejem are extreme.
Personally I am so relieved JC finally got our concerns about Nick resolved. Honestly after Black Dreams, I was very upset that she didn't immediately follow-up in her next book and give us some answers about Nick. Noooooo! Instead she wrote 3 books about a future Nick. I'm not interested in a future Nick at least not until I get resolution about Miri and Angie's Nick and my Nick. So I protested by not reading any of the future Nick books. Now that there is some closure about Nick I might be able to read those other books.
This book highlights some of the other characters we usually just get a glimpse of. I like Angel and Cowboy but you never get too much dialogue between them and never any romance. There is a chapter that reveals that they have some pretty strong feelings for each other and maybe even a future together. I like their relationship and how they love each other.
This book has a lot of action and big reveals. You are going to cheer, laugh and cry. You will be surprised at the relationships and alliances revealed. There will be unexpected tearful reunions and expected tearful reunions. Just be prepared and get the tissue out. JC always writes well but she outdid herself with Black of Hearts. I'm so glad I won't have to wait very long for the next book in this series which is due out in about two weeks. I think this book will be my favorite.

The Slickest & Most Gripping Book Of The Series!!😡😱😍🔥💘💥 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) Black Of Hearts (Quentin Black Mystery Book 12)
I'm blown away!💥 Black is explosive, almost to the point of instability, as he & Miri return to their Earth.🌎 His light goes haywire, like they were warned it would by the retired hero Seers of Old Earth!!😉 Miri recognises the problem for what it is, why he's acting crazy & being completely unreasonable, again. He acknowledges it & says he'll try to get control. They need to share their light now more than ever to try to stabilise him until he's learned to control it!!🙏
Charles has upped his campaign against the Vampire's and without them knowing it, the Human's too, once they've served his purpose. He wants the Vampire's exterminated & the Human's enslaved, like they'd done to his race on Old Earth!😡 He's still desperate to have his Niece, Miri, and Black on his side.
Brick, Vampire King 👑 & Sire to Nick, asks for Black & his team's help. Charles has built a wall to stop his people from being able to cross the border to aid him in the fight. He now has many of them trapped, by either daylight or the Military, in tunnels/caves on their side of the US border. He needs Blacks transport & skill set to help evacuate them though.😲 They agree to help as long as he doesn't bring up Nick to Black. It's sends him spiralling when ever be thinks about what Miri's bestfriend did to her & to Kiko, one of his dearest friends & second in command!!😥💔💥
Omg, the tension throughout is unnerving!🙈 I loved that this book didn't have very much of the sleazier side we've seen of Seer lifestyles.😉 As much as I enjoy that aspect, in the right context, I think it would've tipped this story into areas it just didn't need, so I'm grateful for the Authors restraint & trust in their own work.🙏💕 I was overjoyed we got to find out exactly what happened to Nick & Dalejem in this book, it's been driving me nuts since his horrendous actions in Book #10. 😡💔 Brick shows a more tender side of himself to us, which I was fascinated by.😏 Now I can't wait for Blacks, and possibly Charles, Seers to find out who he & Miri spent time with (in Book #11) on their last Interdimensional trip!!😍💥
This is such a slick and forward moving read that I can't really find fault in it!! There are some truly unexpected & spectacular occurrences that could shift the storyline in many different directions. I can't wait for what comes next!!🌟🙏🔥
