This is a fun author collaboration series that follows the members of the Fairclough family. I haven’t read all of the books, but I didn’t have any problem following this book. The book is excellently written and the characters are fully formed and totally relatable. You’ll feel as if you are friends with all of the characters before you are through reading.

One of the best things is an absolutely delightful

Lilian and the Irresistible Duke by Virginia Heath is the fourth book in the Secrets of a Victorian Household series. There are four books in the series and each one has been written by a different author. I have only read one of the others, but you needn't read the others in order to fully understand and enjoy this one.

Lilian Fairclough has been a widow for 10 years, she loved her husband with all her heart and knows she will never marry again because she couldn't love any man as much as she

I am so pleased to see more authors writing romances with older characters. The opportunities for love are not gone when a person is older. In Lilian and the Irresistible Duke we have the story of the mother of the other characters in the series. Like so many women she has put her personal life aside for the benefit of her family. Long widowed after a solid, loving marriage, Lilian embarks on an adventure trip to Rome, with the support of her children.

While in Rome Lilian meets Pietro, a duke

Lilian Fairclough had met the seductive Pietro Venturi, an Italian duke, the previous Christmas and they exchanged an unexpected and passionate kiss. Lilian has been widowed for years, and now that her children are all happily married, she doesn't know what the future holds for her. When her children gift her a trip abroad, she vows to enjoy herself. When she arrives in Rome, she is to stay with a friend of a friend, the wonderfully exuberant Carlotta. But uh-oh. Pietro also lives at the ...more

The fourth enchanting story in the 'Secrets of a Victorian Household' series written by a quartet of writers. This series is about the family running the Fairclough Foundation, a place of salvation for many poverty stricken women needing shelter in London. Lilian is the matriarch of the family and the Director of the Fairclough Foundation. Convinced by her family to take a much needed break, she heads to Italy with her cousin. There she meets the Duca della Torizia once again. Pietro and Lilian ...more

Really enjoyable read from Virginia. What a wonderful pleasure it was to read a love story of a couple in their late 40’s.
See we don’t curl up and rot at that age , we keep loving on

Pietro and Lilian were so perfect together, passionate and irresistible reading.
I adore the location the book is set in too one of my favourite countries to visit.

I recommend this to all , especially those who think passion is only for the young.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

Virginia Heath is by far one of my favorite authors. I'm always thrilled to read something new from her and Lilian and the Irresistible Duke is a lovely addition to her wonderful collection of stories.

Lilian and the Irresistible Duke is a steamy romance featuring a mature hero and heroine. Keep a fan ready because this one is hot. Italy, art, romance and an attraction between two people that burns right off the page make this the perfect winter read.

Lilian Fairclough is a widow with adult

Lilian and the Irresistible Duke is the final book of the Secrets of a Victorian Household series, but can be read as a standalone. This book tells us Lilian Fairclough's story and takes us along with her on a journey to Rome with adventure, art and romance with the delicious Duca della Torizia - Pietro Venturi.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, with an older hero and heroine. The emotional conflict and rationalisations of older characters gave them immense depth and added to the flavour of

I loved this book because it was about mature characters. Lillian was a widow, mother and grandmother. She wasn't sure what her next role would be in life. And hers was a loving marriage so she missed being married. She is convinced to go to Rome with a cousin to visit a mutual acquaintance, Carlotta whom they both knew. What Lillian did not know was that the two were scheming to match up Lillian and Carlotta's brother, Pietro. Pietro had the opposite kind of marriage from Lillian. It was ...more

I loved the main characters immediately Lilian a widow for a decade is persuaded by her three children to take a well earned break. She sets off for Rome with her late husbands incorrigible cousin Alexandra. Arriving after dark at the palazzo and unaware it belongs to a gentleman who stole a kiss reawakening feelings she thought had died. Lilian starts out on a roller coaster of an affair taking in the beauty and the arts of Rome. Soon her six weeks comes to an end and she's heartbroken to leave ...more

A rare treasure! Seldom is a book written that actually develops a relationship between the hero and heroine without the use of major catastrophes, wars, maiming, crimes, etc. Virginia Heath's writing skills and talent allows her to create characters who are human and believable. The love that binds Pietro and Lilian is wonderful to experience! Every middle aged woman should read this book, even if she's married because the reader will recognize herself in Lilian's all-consuming dedication to ...more

Lilian and Pietro are mature adults who engage in sensual pleasures under strict rules and a timeline. Falling in love is not part of the agreement. Since both characters are mature (late 40’s), they bring a lot of personal history to the relationship and what they expect from it. Ms Heath has done a wonderful job of portraying both characters as individuals who didn’t know how much love meant to them or that love was even possible at their age. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Though I received ...more

I enjoyed this book, for me its classic Mills and Boon. I liked the fact it featured a more mature hero and heroine, it allowed the sensual aspects of the story to flow.
The story revolves around Lillian, widowed with 3 grown children and Pietro, a charming Italian duke. They first meet in London and then again in Italy, where they embark on an affair that both agree will end when Lillian returns to England.
The book is sumptuously written, you are transported to Italy with its glorious landscapes

I have read many of Ms Heath's books and this one is quite different from the last few I have read. The others had adventure, villains and romance in them, whereas this one is pure romance. I enjoyed reading about art and Italy but found I personally missed the adventure. For those who love romance with lots of sex, this one is for you. As usual, Ms Heath has written her characters beautifully and with much feeling. I received this as an ARC and freely give my review.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

I have not read the previous three novels in this series, which presumably featured the children of the heroine Lilian. There were a few references to their love stories and an entire epilogue devoted to their offspring. Those stories sounded a lot more interesting than this one, which was extremely dull. Lilian travels to Italy on holiday, meets Pietro and looks at every piece of artwork in Rome with him. They have an affair and

There is no doubt that Virginia Heath tells a good romance. Lillian and the Irresistible Duke is an engaging love story of two mature people. Both Lillian and Pietro are in their 40's or almost 50s, and it is nice to see that reflected in their actions and speech. Lillian is practical and wise; Pietro is the most romantic hero I believe I have ever read. Also enjoyable were fhe forays into the Italian art world.

As Pietro said “I sense a but...” It was way too steamy for me. I skipped some of the

Lillian and Pietro are characters with maturity and very different life histories that makes this a great read. Their past experiences with love makes for a wonderful new romance. Which their love of art and sharing of Roma brings to life and makes me want to take a trip to Roma and experience it through their eyes.

I highly recommend this book for everyone but especially for someone that enjoys a good romance.

I was provided an ARC by the author. This is my honest, unbiased review.

Virginia does it again, I loved this story of Lillian and Pietro.

Lillian has given her life for her family and husband, not being able to follow her dreams but happy to follow her husband Henry’s journey. That is until she becomes a widow, she consoles herself by focusing on her children and the Foundation her husband set up. The children are all grown and have families of their own, and she feels she no longer has a place so along with her cousin she journeys to Italy to enjoy what Rome has to

It all started with a kiss in a carriage.

Lilian’s children have decided she needs to get away and take some time for herself. Her cousin, Alexandra, brings her along to Rome, and unbeknownst to Lilian, they’ll be staying at the palazzo of Pietro, the Duke with whom she shared that illicit kiss. Both having lost their spouses many years ago, the pair decide they’ll start up an affair while Lilian is in Rome. While neither wants a commitment at the start, will their feelings change by the end of

I just fell in love with Pietro and Lillian. I was a little skeptical when Mrs. Heath mentioned writing about an older second chance at love couple. But boy was I pleasantly surprised. They were so charming and endearing. To love is timeless. This story paints a picture of how sweeter love can be when we recognize its value. Beauty does not dim with age but is enhanced . Pietro was gorgeous physically, but more so because he was a man who truly valued a woman. Lillian showed that a woman at any ...more

I live on the outskirts of London with my understanding husband and two, less understanding, teenagers.

After spending years teaching history, I decided to follow my dream of writing for Harlequin.

Now I spend my days happily writing regency romances, creating heroes that I fall in love with and heroines who inspire me.

When I'm not doing that, I like to travel to far off places, shop for things
