I’m so glad I purchased this one. I will admit I am bad for going by reviews and blogger suggestions and sometimes pass things up if they aren’t given the right amount of stars and so forth but with this one, I decided I would give it a go. I’m glad I did. It was a wonderful read. I enjoyed everything about it. From beginning to end. It made my heart happy, it made me mad and it had some laugh out loud moments. It was sweet and sassy. It had enough drama to keep you wanting more but didn’t overwhelm you. It was just a good read. It has a hea and no cliffhanger. Perfect.

Friends to lovers, first love, and second chances are the backdrop for this wonderful story, with a twist-of-fate surprise thrown in. And my favorite part is the quirky, awkward, charming Samantha with her superior intellect, photographic memory, love of math and lack of verbal filter or social awareness. Give me an endearing, idiosyncratic character and I’m in reader heaven!

And while I’m so tickled with my reading choices lately, let me tell you, I’ve ben trying a lot of new-to-me writers recently, and this one easily earns a top spot on my list of must reads with Sam and Mazric's story. It’s sweet and tender, inelegant and discomforting, secretive and heartbreaking, and ultimately, euphoric and satisfying. And it’s just so darn much fun!

I dare you to read this book and not fall in love with Sam. She's smart enough that she could easily finish high school before ever making it out of elementary school, so she's a few years younger than the other kids in her class. She really does know it all, but it’s nearly impossible to keep her thoughts to herself, which doesn’t help endear her to her peers. She loves math, and the geometry of basketball, and she's unequally qualified to give professional players some tips. Just imagine what her children will be like!

Mazric now, bless his heart, is a different story. He's the typical, egocentric teenager who desperately needs to buy a clue. Focused only on his professional basketball career, there is a lot he and Sam go through as young adults that, if he had applied himself and questioned a few things, would have been very different. But then Sam did her part in enlisting the family to keep things from him so, while I understand her reasoning, she isn’t blameless. While I didn’t love that aspect of the story, the things it leads to are some of the best, sweetest and most heartfelt parts of their story.

If you enjoy new/young adult romance, you’ll love this story. If that’s not your jam, I still encourage you to give it a try. When all is said and done, it lifts your heart and leaves it with a smile, making you glad you were part of this world for a few hours. Humorous, heartfelt, and oozing with charm, you won’t want to miss this fantastic read!

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story about Samantha and Mazric. The story begins with Samantha/Sam meeting Mazric the day he moves to his grandfather's ranch. She's 8 and he's 10. Mazric wants to play basketball and an helps him with his shot, reminding him it's about about equations. They are best friends and he keeps the kids from bulling her. But as they get older he starts to notice girls but since Sam is to young, she's of limits. She's brilliant so she's homeschooled with they're friend Hendrix. He invites her to prom and their relationship moves to a different level. There's a lot of bumps in the road and things are said. Mazric is torn he still loves Samantha but he thinks she betrayed him. She's hiding a secret because she doesn't want to keep him back from becoming the NBA player he dreams of. Great HEA in the end.

What an outstanding awesome story. It is extremely well written and has beautifully developed characters with amazing personalities. I absolutely adored Sammy. She has so much spunk and humor. She incredibly intelligent and says the most amazing things. Maz is a spectacular character especially in the beginning and how protective he is. The chemistry between the two is off the charts. This story has a fantastic flow and I loved the storyline. This is a must read!

This was a beautiful life long love story. Mazric and Samantha meet as children. We get to watch these two souls grow and experience all their firsts.

The character development is perfect. The angst is off the charts. I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall! I found myself crying. When your emotions are all over you know the book is special. I cannot wait to read more of this series.

This was a true love story that I will be thinking about for days to come.

This book was so good! Like sat down at bedtime to start and by the time you finish you are shocked the sun is coming up good!

Big departure from my normal dark smutty books and it was so worth it. You see the two main characters grow up together and all the storms they go through. Sam was probably one of my favorite heroines ever. She's strong, level headed, genius smart and selfless (so selfless). When she is put in an impossible situation that doesn't give her many options she does what she feels is best. She takes a lot of flack from all directions but holds strong to her convictions.

One of the best part of the book was actually the supporting characters! You find yourself getting invested in all of her friends.

I didn't see many of the twists coming (which is rare) and I was so into the book I didn't realize hours were slipping by. I actually woke up my husband with laughter during a certain scene ( you will know it when you read it)

I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

This story spans the first meet of Samantha and Mazric up to their HEA, in between you will cry, laugh, snort, roll your eyes and have your heart broken and mended and broken some more.

Samantha/Sam has a genius IQ, topped off with an identic mind and a mouth that sometimes engages more than it should combine that with being younger than everyone in her class and you have the makings of a girl forever on the outside of the in crowd.

Mazric and his mother moved to Seven Mile Forge to live with his grandfather after his dad passed away and encounters the young Sam while throwing a basketball at the basketball court his Pappy made for his dad when he was young.

Young Sam is afraid Mazric will be like everyone else and shun her once she starts talking, to her surprise they strike up an unlikely friendship that grows into more as they get older.

This is one of my favorite authors, she throws in many old 80’s movie references, pop culture and the silliness that make kids, kids. We experience Sam and Mazric go from being awkward children to hormone laden teenagers to adults with a lot on their plate. We get an inside peak into their thoughts, hurts, hopes and dreams. Your heart just breaks for Sam time and time again as you see her trying to rise above the fallout from her mother leaving as a child and trying to be the son her dad wanted, to keeping a secret so big you wonder that she doesn’t crumble from the weight of it.

You want to shake Maz for being an obtuse guy that is trying his best to outrun what he knows in his heart is true that Samantha owned his heart when she was just seven. They both stumble and fall and along the way find the courage to take what was in front of them all along.

The author outdoes herself with this very endearing, heart warming and at times heart-wrenching story that will stay part of your heart a long time after the read.

I seriously LOVE me some Billie Dale, but OH MY HELL! She tired to KILL ME DEAD FOR REAL with Wannabe More! This is the story of how two kids met, and the relationship which spanned over a couple of decades. Samantha was a genius, there's no other way to describe the best way. Yeah, she was quirky, but most geniuses are, and I LOVED her! She became best friends with a boy named Mazric, and their journey punched me in the feels over & over again, until I was ready to actually try to jump through my kindle in order to throat punch both of them. They had an intense connection as they got older, but never crossed the friend line, until they did. It was for a summer before he went off to college, with following up with her own leaving. Only things didn't go to plan, and while I LOVED Sam's HUGE heart, I didn't agree with every choice she made, after he left for college. And Mazric, he was a douche, as he didn't look past the surface when some things happened, just got mad & went on with his own life. When he finally decides that it's time to get his girl back, I was LIVID, because as far as I was concerned, he had waited TOO DAMN LONG! And Sam forgave him TOO DAMN SOON! I can't get into the details since they would be spoilers, but just know that it will really mess with your emotions, and yeah, I couldn't put it down for ANYTHING, but I'm still feeling the need to hurt him. And this is why I gave Wannabe More the ultimate perfect rating (would have given it more stars if possible) because I couldn't put it down as Billie Dale had me ALL IN! So just hit that one click button so you too, can see what I'm talking about, but have some chocolate/alcohol/maybe even tissues ready to go! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

'Wannabe More' is More than just a romance book. This is a very rare 2nd chance romance story as the book span's 20 years of the lives of Sam and Mazric and is written so well that by the end of the book you really feel as if you know them. As I said - something quite rare.

The story could have had the potential to drift and not stayed focused but this book flowed from their first meeting at an early age to teenage years and final adulthood. -Samantha has an IQ that is off the charts so although a couple of years younger than Mazric she attends the same classes. As you can image a geeky girl is not always welcomed with open arms. Mazric is handsome and a star BasketBall player - two very different children but a bond that runs deep as they help each other through difficult times

The friendship between Sammy and Mazric is something very special but as they get older things change and adult feelings come into play but do you want to jeopardise a friendship that means everything to you and when life takes you in different directions what then! but a secret could change all that!

Come and join Mazric and Sammy and their friends Preslee and Hendrix (both of these have their own books - Preslee next then Hendrix) on their journeys of friendship and love.

This story was amazingly heartbreaking beautiful, I honestly thought that it was going to be a simple little town romance story but it was so much more!!

First off the characters were a delight, Mazric is a typical male, that wants to get with anything that moves, thinking with other parts of his body instead of with his brain, gets jealous and angry really fast and Sam is this weird introverted girl genius that has a hard time because she has always been bullied, the story goes from when they are little to teens to adults.

You see them grow into their own and make mistakes like everyone does at their respected ages. Mazric and Sam are best friends that bond over basketball, you see their friendship grow into something more, you see the struggles of wanting the best for someone else and wanting them for yourself, to do the right thing and suffer in silence for the good of the person you love.

It was a really heartfelt story, at times I was giddy, angry, sobbing into my pillow, I went through the rainbow of emotions and that's what made it a really great read, I want more!!!

it has a HEA 🥰

True love triumphs...

Will true love triumph in the end? This story tells Samantha and Mazric's story from their childhood meeting until their HEA. There is plenty of drama as well as highs and lows along the way. I suggest you have a nice drink, plenty of chocolate and tissues nearby as you read this story.

I love Sam and Mazric. Where does the name Mazric come from? It's very unique. The poignancy of their story was jumping off the page and I couldn't put the book down. I super enjoyed that Mazzy inherited her mamma's smarts. I'm looking forward to more Seven Mile Forge stories.

This book stuck with me long after I read it… unfortunately it wasn’t in a good way. I’m a sucker for second chance romance / friends to lovers but this one left a bad taste in my mouth.

**Spoilers Below**

The MMC made me so angry the more I thought about how incredibly selfish he was. First, his whole basketball career/success is all in due to the MFC and not once did he ever thank her. Second he had to of known the baby was his AND if he really was dumb enough to think it wasn’t his I still think he was a crappy friend to write her off completely by never checking in on her considering what a manwhore he was throughout high school - how dare he get mad at her for maybe sleeping with someone else when he was off living life. Lastlet… even when he finds out it’s his daughter he STILL goes off and selfishly thinking only himself (and don’t get me started when he was going to hook up with the nurse - it take his grandfather to knock some sense in his stupid head).

I also am annoyed at his mother because I think she enabled him and let him live this amazing life while the MFC gave up everything, I understand it’s what the MFC wanted but at some point I would have said “come home son (wink wink)”. I do understand the idea of letting him get his career going but many years are you going to give this spoiled brat especially when he got engaged!

And then there are the actions of the MFC, I’m torn because while I know she’s a genius I have to remember she was also young. I’m so annoyed she was celibate allll those years. It also irks me that her daughter befriended the school bully and she allowed the bullying to continue.

The MFC had amazing moments when she put people in there place I just wish she followed through on them. I know this isn’t how books work but I would of been happier if she ended up living happily ever after making genius babies with Hendrix because I just don’t think the MMC deserved her after all he put her through in the end.

Wannabe More by Billie Dale is the first story in the Love in Seven Mile Forge series. What a kick-off to a new storyline. As this is my first story by Billie Dale, I am hooked!! and can't wait to get my hands on book 2.

This story is the complete story of Samantha and Mazric. From their first encounter and young kids through their college years. As it is a bit on the longer side of a novel, it is so worth every word. Every word is brilliantly written and the storyline as a whole is beautiful. There are so much depth and feeling and little out of the box but altogether it's perfect.

The friends to lovers first love young adult and second chances. Is just the beginning of their tale. Samantha is a child genius with a photo memory and a thing for numbers. Mazric just wants to play basketball and keep his head down and do his thing. But when he forced to move in with his grandpa, the girl next door is nothing that he excepts.

From that moment on the push and pull and all the drama you can muster up with high schoolers and emotions hit sky high. But when a decision is made and they go their own ways for college things don't look so good. I loved every bit of their story, but if Ms. Dale just wrote their high school drama, and afterward I would still love this story just as much.

Now just don't go on thinking this is just a high school/college romance because it is not. There is soooooo much more to this story and I don't want to give anything away.

This is a must-read. I dare.

Cliche much

Another story about how a pregnant teenager sacrifices her prospect for her boyfriend who is good at some sport. Mind you she is smart and has full ride scholarship to be a doctor. Oh no but she forces a breakup so he can prosper..and all the adults are okay with it. And the next decade while the male goes about sleeping with anything that moves she is at home raising the child, keeping his farm going..yada yada..and can only get a date with someone who's gay or a thief. This is some first grade bs propaganda that's fed in these stories. The male eventually comes back to get the girl, this is of course after his fiancee cheats..and the female main character just accepts him ..as we all know, even though he slept with so many ..she is the one. The female character in this has a backbone..but that just gets buried under the sexist propaganda.

Too slow. First 25% of the book they are 8-12 years old. At 50% they still haven’t aged past 16 & 18. While I don’t mind a bit of backstory I don’t need to read about 4 years of tweenage-angst. Especially to that extent!

Nearly DNF’d a 100 times, only reason i finished it is because I couldn’t find anything to watch on tv. There were some good moments here and there and I really enjoyed Sam’s character but Mazric was a waste of space and she deserved a 1000 times better. She also forgave and forgot WAY too quickly with very little discussion. It’s a pity there was nothing there between her and Hendrix. He was twice the man Mazric was.

This is a different type of story for Ms. Dale, and I loved every minute of it! Did she evoke several different emotions from me? She sure did!!! And, that's what I love about reading! Ms. Dale provided a front row seat to Sam and Mazric's relationship(s)! Sam's been in love. Sam is Mazric's friend! Oh what a web Ms. Dale weaved! Emotional, small-town, romance read!

I like the book about childhood friends and the girl pinning fir the guy. She finally gets the guy only when he leaves for college shes pregnant. And he knows in his heart she would never cheat but he is a whore sleeping with everyone and leaves a 16 year old alone. Then 9 years later wants to come back and for her to jump because he wants her now. He didn't deserve her.

Thanks so much for a great well written book Billie- I’m about to start the next one

Young love, friends to lovers and second chances. A lifetime of toil and a supremely excellent trip through the lives of Sam and Mazric.

The first book in the Love in Seven Mile Forge series a well written second chance story. This is Samantha Gentry and Mazric Vortex's story of a woman who has been in love with a man for a long time. He has only seen her as a friend until his world starts falling apart, so nine years after he walked away he wants her back. But Sam has been keeping something from him for the last nine years. (3.5 stars)

When Mazric moved to his grandfather's farm, he never imagined that he would find his best friend, and he really didn't expect that bestie to be Sam, a girl. From childhood and through the hard teenage years, the two were pretty inseparable. Even with Sammy's genius brain, and Maz's love for basketball, the two stuck close and over time their feelings grew to be more than just best friends. But life waits for no one, and after an amazing summer, they both know that their dreams mean they have to separate, but with promises that they will come back together eventually. When a night from that magical summer ends with life lasting results, Sam is determined to make sure that Maz doesn't miss out on his dream, even if it means she does.

Ok, so this has some really nice build up scenes that show us just how Maz and Sammy's relationship grows. I really enjoyed part one, and then we get to part two, which for me was an absolute let down. I was not a fan of how this all worked out, I feel like Sammy got the short end of the stick. I give this 3.5 stars.

Mazric moves to his grandfather's ranch when he's 8, and he meets his best friend. Sammy's a math wiz, and helps with her father's car repair business. She falls in love with him. This is beautiful and emotional story, following their friendship and love over twenty years. We watch them grow up. And then grow apart. I love Sammy - smart, focused, beautiful - and love young Mazric, and hate adult Mazric, until he comes to his senses. This is my first book from this author, and I'm looking forward to more.
