I'm typically not a poetry reader, however I received this from my much beloved Great Aunt and had to read it again. For me, regarding poetry, it was really pretty good. It's reflective and isn't "deep", just recounts John Betjeman's life from childhood to adult. Many of the poems are pastoral and evocative of so-called simpler times in small hamlets, surrounded by the the simple beauty of nature. I can get into poems like that. Time well spent.

It's always so hard to rate poetry books when there's bound to be poems you like more than others and some that are merely okay. So, in this one my rating varies from 2 to 3 stars, I suppose! And as the book's "introduced and selected for the young" (i.e. kiddos) I'd consider myself to be out of its target range and would've maybe enjoyed it more some years ago. (Though, pictures in children's books are always a bonus, ha!)
