With 7th grade about to start, Keiko is glad that her friend Jenna is back from visiting her father, who now lives in Texas. She and Audrey were worried that Jenna stopped texting them over the summer. Audrey has a plan for the school year-- the girls will all find boyfriends. Jenna is tired of following Audrey's orders, especially since she has already made friends with the boy who is Audrey's target, and Keiko is a bit weary of her as well. Keiko had been

This book is such a delight! So many kids are going to relate to Keiko, who desperately wants to keep the peace between her two best friends and have an awesome seventh grade year as a group of three...but nothing is working out the way she hoped. I love the way this story explores all the giddy, awkward confusion of middle school crushes as well as friendships that have turned unhealthy and microaggressions that Keiko faces. Its a fun, engaging, and thought-provoking story that will entertain ...more

It's a new school year, and for best friends, Keiko, Audrey, and Jenna, 7th grade should be epic! They'll be in some of the same classes, have lunch together, join a few clubs so they can hang out after school, and...this is the year that they're going to have boyfriends!  Sounds simple, right? But one misunderstanding leads to another, causing an irreparable rift in their friendship. When it comes down to having to decide
The new school year has begun and with it comes great change. Keiko Carter and her friends, Audrey and Jenna have just become 7th graders and are excited at their new opportunities, future dances, and potential boyfriends. But, conflict between them strikes and begins pushing them apart even though Keiko is trying hard to keep them together.

This was such an amazing book. Debbie Michiko Florence created an incredibly authentic and relatable voice in Keiko. I can see many children relating to

I loved it! KEEP IT TOGETHER, KEIKO CARTER by Debbi Michiko Florence pulled me in and tugged on my heart. Readers will connect with and relate to Keiko and the world shes trying hard to navigate. They will no doubt see their world in hers. As the story unfolds, Keiko ultimately finds herself and her voice as she explores changing friendships, first crushes, and family dynamics. Highly recommend.

I received and read an arc of this book.

[I also loved this book, but I'm sure you'd rather hear from an actual 7th grader. This is a review by 12yo Novalee.]

Keep It Together, Keiko Carter is an amazing book by Debbi Michiko Florence. It was about a girl going into seventh grade named Keiko. But, her friends are drifting apart and fighting, and between a new boy and an old friend. Of course Keiko feels obligated to fix everything.
This book is so relatable. With friends getting into fights about small things that escalate, what do you

Thank you to the author for sharing an ARC with Collabookation.
Keiko Carter is a people pleaser. She feels a constant pull to keep the peace~ whether it's at home when she finds ways to entertain her sister during her grandfather's negativity, or trying to balance between her two friends, Audrey and Jenna. And balancing between Audrey and Jenna is no easy task, as they have so few commonalities besides Keiko. This book is the ungluing of a trio of girls who thought they'd be best friends

KEEP IT TOGETHER, KEIKO CARTER is the kind of book I want every preteen girl to read, because it feels so true to the experience of being a middle-school girl and navigating the tough social waters of female friendship, cliques and crushes. It's packed with pop culture references, friend drama, cute boys, and adorable dogs, and as young readers race through the story, they might not even notice that they're also learning great lessons about hard choices, growing up and growing apart, staying ...more

Everything's supposed to be different in seventh grade for Keiko and her best friends, Audrey and Jenna-- but their bond begins to shift and crumble as the school year begins. Audrey only seems to care about boys, and it brings out a controlling side to her when she tries to tell Keiko and Jenna who they can and can't hang out with. Keiko is a peace keeper, but it's becoming impossible to please everyone in her life! Keep It Together, Keiko Carter is true to both the power and growing pains of ...more

I loved this book so much! True middle grade friend drama story with a bit of sweet romance, plus family stuff and DOGS and BASKETBALL and ACTUAL PORTRAYAL of periods. I loved how Keiko saw that she needed to change as a person to stand up for herself and what she wanted. I hope there will be a sequel!

A great story about friendship, first crushes and coping with life changes. I loved the way this included a lot of lightness, while also tackling micro-aggressions, racism, divorce and self care. I really look forward to recommending this book to a lot of readers!

Thank you to Scholastic for the advanced copy received at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

Keiko Carter is a people pleaser who loves chocolate and her best friends. Life as a middle schooler isn't easy- boy trouble, friend trouble, trouble at home- but Keiko figures out how to navigate the waters of adolescence. Loved this book and definitely recommend.

I got to read an advanced copy of Keep it Together, Keiko Carter. What a gem! I absolutely loved this book all about the ups and downs of those in-between years of middle school!

Keiko is so relatable, wanting to keep everyone happy, even at the expense of her own happiness. She often doesnt recognize how others treat her unfairly because she is so loyal and true. But not seeing people for who they really are also means sometimes missing the true and good friends right in front of you. I loved
