My Secret Crush #1

My Secret Santa

Rate this book
Christmas is not my favorite. Not since I lost my dad last year. The lights, the music, the happy people. Everything reminds me of him. And if he were around still, maybe he could get Chad to leave me alone.

On top of all that, Mr. Walker had to give us this assignment to be a Secret Santa for someone, and you'll never guess who I got. Okay, you probably can, but can you blame me for not wanting to do the assignment?

Except . . . Chad doesn't seem to be a bad guy when his friends aren't around. He might even be someone I could like. But can I handle letting someone in right now, especially when his ex-girlfriend and half the cheerleading squad are doing everything in their power to keep us apart?

Jaclyn is an Idaho farm girl who grew up loving to read. She developed a love for writing as a senior in high school, when her dad jokingly said she was the next Dr. Seuss (not even close, but very sweet). She met her husband, Steve, at BYU, and they have six happy, crazy children who encourage her to keep writing. After owning a bookstore and running away to have adventures in Australia, they settled back down in their home in Utah. Jaclyn now spends her days herding her kids to various activities and trying to remember what she was supposed to do next. She has published six books in a year, and her mind is still reeling from the awesomeness. Her books include Ring of Truth; A Christmas Worth Billions; The Princess and the Prom Queen; Magicians of the Deep; the Luck series--Stolen Luck, Twist of Luck, Best of Luck, More Than Just Luck, No Such Luck, and Just My Luck, a novella; and Endless.

Sweet teen romance

Claire has endured Chad & his obnoxious friends for quite some time. Then she ends up having to be his Secret Santa. Chad isn't so bad when his friends aren't around. In fact, Claire is grieving the loss of her dad, and it turns out that Chad lost his older sister, so he has an idea of what she's going thru.

The more they get to know each other, the closer they begin to get. But Chad's vindictive ex-girlfriend is not happy about it. Which makes the pain of Christmas without her dad even harder.

It's a really sweet & well done story for the most part. The ending is happy, but it's kind of hastily done & feels a bit abrupt. Hopefully, Book 2 will help with those loose ends. Lizzie & Shawn sound like they will make a good story.

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

Claire works at her mother's diner. One of the boys, Chad, who comes in with his friends picks on her and calls her Diner Girl. When her teacher gives an assignment to have a secret Santa and get to the person whose name you drew, Claire is not pleased that she picks Chad's name.

Claire's father died at Christmas time and she's still in mourning. She tries out for the basketball team because basketball is one of the things she shares with her Dad. Chad plays on the boys' team. When he starts being nice to her and helping her with her basketball skills, she is suspicious. Even worse, he's broken up with a girl and she and her friends are out to get Claire.

How can she get through this holiday season? This is a great, sweet love story. I recommend it for girls and women who remember high school angst and young love.

This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it.
It was the type of book that during thus time just gives you a little boost and maybe transports you back to a simpler time in your life.
Claire is trying to get through her first Christmas without her father. Keeping busy with school and the famiky diner helps.
Chad has been coming into the diner, with his obnoxious friends forever. Giving Claire a hard time.
When Claire gets assigned to be Chad's secret Santa for a class project, she is surprised by who he really is not who he is in front of his friends. They have more in common than she realizes.
It's a sweet, lighthearted read.
I'll definitely read more by this author.
This is an honest voluntary review.

My Secret Santa is a sweet story of Claire and her family. Her dad died a year ago at Christmas and this book showed how she handled her loss and the anniversary of his death. It also showed her strength of character and how caring Claire was,

I liked the high school Secret Santa assignment she received. It was funny how she drew Chad's name and he drew hers. It was also funny to realized all the teasing in her mother's diner while she worked was because Chad liked her and wanted to get to know his Diner Girl better. The characters and the story were so realistic as the author pulled you right back to high school days. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

My Secret Santa is a great start to a new series; it is a standalone read though. Chad and Claire, the two main characters, are teens who have lost and are mourning a family member. In spite of that, the book left me feeling uplifted. The characters are likeable, especially once you understand the reasons behind what they do. They get a happy ending. There's some of the typical teen angst and mean girls, but it's not the focus of the book. I'm old, and I enjoyed reading the book. I would recommend it to YA and to clean/wholesome romance readers. I hope to read more of this series and more from Jaclyn Weist. I got my copy through KU.

Claire was an amazing young lady who had grace and spunk. She thought Chad was a pain but..... Throw in a secret Santa assignment which seems to get these two together and you have the makings of either an awesome friendship or the beginning of misery. Of course there are mean girls - I mean this is high school - never understood mean girls. Loved her family and best friend - more than one romance happening in this book. I listened to the audio book and the narrator was just the best. Her switching of voices was smooth and easy to distinguish between characters. I did think the ending was rushed but overall loved this book.

My Secret Santa is a really sweet story of Claire, who is facing her first Christmas without her dad, and Chad, who lost his sister two years ago. There is some teen angst and a little cyber bullying, but mostly this book is about moving on while honoring (not forgetting) those you have lost. The story is well paced, insightful and has interesting characters. I really enjoyed it.

Great story

This book was really fun to read. It makes a point of how hard high school can be. At that age kids can be so mean. You can only do like Chad & Claire did & not let them cause you to let them win.

Very sweet. This couple was cute together. I loved that they had real problems that they were able to work on together. This is a really sweet, clean young adult romance.

Good read

This is a really sweet story. He should’ve dropped his so-called friends and ex girlfriend along time ago. Also should’ve had a chat with his parents about boundaries.
