Child of the Sun #1-7

Child of the Sun: Complete Edition

Rate this book
Child of the Sun is a very loose adaptation of the biblical Samson mixed with some other biblical tales, biblical legends, and ancient biblical fiction. The story focuses on the first half of Samson's life: before Delilah, before the fall, when his power and confidence was at its height. It is also a love story between Samson and the little known wife of his youth.

The Complete Edition contains all seven issues of the graphic novel. This graphic novel is recommended for mature audiences.

Outstanding art work

Child of the Sun Complete Edition by Michael Van Cleve is a graphic art book of over 200 pages. It does lean to the Christian side on some things but that didn't effect my enjoyment. It wasn't preachy.
The art work was terrific, which is truly appreciated since many graphic novels it's hard to follow the flow of the story or what is going on in the picture! The stories, there were a couple that merge, we're interesting and I never got bored.
This is definitely for older viewers/readers. Adult-ish scenes and pretty gory ones too are drawn very well!
The text too is something else that is another pet peeve I have with graphic novels. They often try to make the font fancy versus readable. This, fortunately, is very readable! 😍
This is definitely an outstanding piece of labor!

Even though I am not a graphic novel aficionado I enjoy this collection very much.
Amazing story about Samson, the familiar biblical characters about his unfamiliar childhood and his younger days. I love the details and "play" of them in the story arc. The author did an excellent job. I love the illustrations too. Only for mature audiences due to a lot of explicit and erotic scenes.

This was an interesting comic book series focusing on Samson of Ancient Israel as well as other mythological figures, heroes and monsters such as Heracles, giants, the Nemean Lion, Theseus as well as several other Greek personas. These comics tell the story of how Samson became who he was and how he got his otherworldly strength. The story does not; however, touch upon the Biblical aspects of Samson and Delilah, but rather ends just as Samson is chosen to be a Judge of Ancient Israel. Further, the story attempts to tie in other religions and pantheons and illustrate how these other religions and people interact with the Ancient Israelites.

It was a relatively quick read and the illustrations are very detailed. I will have to say though that these comics are appropriate for younger readers as there are many scenes involving sex, nudity and violence.

For those interested in comics and want something that is different from main stream heroes, maybe give this a look.

I gave this collection 4/5 stars because sometimes I got lost in who was doing what or where there was a lack of dialogue that made it difficult to understand the transition between scenes. Overall, it is definitely different from what I usually read and it will not be for everyone.
