I was a mean girl. Well, let me clarify. I was ruthless only in my casual encounters. In all other aspects of my life, I felt I was a decent person. I always helped my elderly neighbor carry in her groceries. I volunteered on Saturdays at the animal shelter. I gave my leftover food to the homeless on the street. I wasn’t a bad person. My meanness stemmed from my refusal to have a committed relationship. If I was painfully honest, though, I knew that was only part of it. I got off on the luring. The idea of controlling the temptation excited me beyond belief. It was a game, and one I must win. Once I was victorious, I no longer cared about my trophy. The act was just the gateway drug to a bigger high I was after. The seduction. Unfortunately, seduction was not some casual hobby of mine. Since experiencing the electrifying power when I conquer a prize, it had become like an addiction. It consumed me. I would win at all costs. Then it happened. My biggest challenge yet. Only this one had a forty-five pound noose around his neck. I was in over my head…and I didn’t know how to get out.

About the author

I have always been a voracious reader. My favorite genres were tailored to YA type of horror, fantasy and science fiction. I guess it fit being that I am a middle school librarian. I have a young adult series in mind that I always told myself I would one day write. Then, at the young age of 46, I picked up an erotic romance book. I only read it out of curiosity. It was a best seller and ALL the teachers in my school were talking about this particular book. You know the one. It had a certain “tie” on the cover. Instantly, overnight, I became of fan of erotic romance. That summer, I think I read twenty erotic romance books. Since I work in a school, I have the beauty of summers off. I read day and night. My face was always plastered in front of my e-reader. I couldn’t get enough of erotic romance. The passion was exciting and contagious!
What this genre did for me was to bring out characters in my head that I had been dreaming about for years. I became obsessed at the idea of writing my own fantasies. Reading other talented authors gave me the inspiration to write stories about my favorite sexy alpha men. I created the “Girl Series”. Please email me with your comments. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of this series. My only complaint is the waiting in between the current book and the next release. The writing is fast paced, entertaining, funny, sexy and heartwarming all rolled into one great story. The characters seem so real and the story is always a story that could really happen to you or someone you know.

Cassie has been deemed the mean girl in her group of fabulously successful women who love each other to bits. Each girl has earned their respective nickname. Cassie isn't mean in all areas of her life. I mean she volunteers at an animal shelter and is courteous to those around her but when it comes to a romantic life that's when it all changes. She has very specific rules in place and the first rule is she is in control and it is only one night. She enjoys sex and enjoys the men she picks up but she keeps herself at a very safe distance while getting what she wants. Being raised by a grifter mom whose only goal in life was to blackmail the next rich guy also taught Cassie to stay away from men who had kids. She only cared about her own pleasure but she sure as heck wouldn't be responsible for messing up a family.

Lukas, a single dad, just moved in next to Cassie and certainly likes what he sees of his new neighbor. But, he has a few rules himself. He's busy trying to get it right with his business and his kid while worrying about his mother whose battling cancer. His priorities are very specific right now.

I loved the relationship between Cassie and Lukas. Not only was she finally getting to know the woman that she really is but she was coming to terms with her past. It was not easy for her at all. Bennie was such a sweet little boy and really helped give the story the lighthearted feel that it needed. I love how the author tackles some pretty huge, sensitive topics but you never feel overwhelmed with emotion or too weighed down. The relationship that developed was fun and electric. Seriously this couple sizzled.

Ms. Baum please don't make me wait too long for your next release. I love, love, love your writing.

I have been a big fan of the Girl Series dating back all the way to Grace and Vinnie! I love this series. It's about a group of 4 ladies who go their separate ways and still stay close.... now we are venturing into the people that some of them have met when after they have moved away and made new friends.

Cassandra was raised by an unconventional mother, who had her believing that relationships and love are a bad thing and make you weak. Then there is Lukas.... single dad who was left by his son's mother. These 2 both obviously have trust issues. This is the story of how they work through them. And Benny (Lukas' son) is just the cutest! This book had a slow burn feel to it and once those flames take hold... you quickly find that it was TOTALLY worth the wait! These 2 are H-O-T 🔥🔥🔥. Watching the relationship between Benny and Cassie was just as fascinating to read about (in a different way).
This story, and these characters, had me completely captivated from the very first page. 5 full length novels in and I am still very much enjoying the Girl Series! I can not wait to see what Kate Baum comes up with next!
