This book had an interesting idea. A world of shapeshifters and witches seemed like a book that I would absolutely love, but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me.

Let’s start off with the good parts about the book though. The world building was phenomenal. I could really picture the world and everything about it while I was reading this book. The supernatural creatures were also excellent. It was obvious that the author spent a long time thinking up and adding details to the magical creatures that they were including in their story.

Grampa Walsh was my favorite character. He brought some slight humor and interesting scenes into the story.

However, as my rating of 2 stars suggests, this book had a lot of flaws. The two main characters were named Sid and Sin. Can you see where this problem arises? It’s really difficult to remember which sibling is which when their names are one letter apart and when they basically have the same personality. Those two main characters just weren’t as fleshed out as I’d hoped they’d be. Their personalities seemed bland and they were identical to each other.

The plot was also really messy. It kept leaping from one event to the next and sometimes it didn’t feel like the events were connected. At times I wasn’t sure if there was even a main conflict that the book was centered around. Sometimes it felt like there was a bunch of short stories thrown together in one book. The passage of time also got confusing as it seemed that the siblings somehow graduated from the Academy in a month?

The dialogue was very unrealistic. No hate to the author because when I write, I struggle with the dialogue, too, but no one would call each other by their names so much in a conversation. It just felt so unnatural.

The family was a struggle to keep track. Introducing numerous family members from two sides of a family in a 201 page book was a bit much.

My final complaint is that there were some issues with consistency in the book. There was one chapter where Sid sent a mental message to her brother while he was far away then a few pages later she said she couldn’t use telepathy with her brother unless they were touching. There was also one chapter where the perspectives switched in the middle of the chapter and there was no indication that the perspectives had switched. With a little bit of editing or revising, these inconsistencies throughout the book could’ve easily been fixed.

I’d generally say to skip this book unless you’re really into reading free ebooks like I am. This book could’ve been so good, but it had a lot of issues.

Glad I did NOT pay for this book!!!

On Chapter. 2 and already rolling my eyes. I feel like I am walking with two pretentious teenagers. Maybe I missed it in Chapter one, but assume Danes are non-magical people? Already I don’t get the author, like overly explaining on non-important stuff and not giving enough info on things like the actual characters.

For instance one of the siblings overly explaining to the other that they needed to spell an item without wards, etc etc etc, because other beings would know and yet just the briefest of info about Stumpy. The parents disappear and all I know is they are powerful and ousted. Nothing more. I know that may be the build up and be explained later, but seeing as these people disappear in a rather violent way in the first chapter shouldn’t some more info be given???

Sid and Sin??? Really?? Sid looked at Sin, Sin said to Sid, and only one or two brief mentions of their full name so I haven’t the slightest who is who until I remember Sin is short for Sinclair, so boy

I laughed and realized this book was not for me when The girl first says she’s scared before entering their family home, even though crime scene tape is all around it and CSI and other cops are on the scene, but moments later they sneak into the house and she becomes Miss attitude when a CSI spots them and asks why they are inside the house when it’s clear they should not be, and then she gets angry when her brother follows the cops’ order to get out of the house and not disturb evidence. Really?? This book must be for those whose frontal lobe is not developed and would side with the anger from the girl, and NOT for those who are older adults who would think “pretentious little twit”. Why would you trample on an active crime scene and give attitude about being justified in such stupidity just because it’s your house.

Book will not be read, being deleted. Cannot waste my time on rubbish!

Sadly this was a DNF. I DNF'd it at 35%. I really love the concept of this book, it's about twins who are the kids of a wold and witch and thus have powers from both of them. Sadly the story didn't grip me. At 35% I still have no idea what the main point of the story will be. there are these big events that should have some emotional impact, but it's all rushed over and focused on the story and the events lack impact. That's my main issue with the book, it just wasn't gripping me and I didn't feel the emotional impact of things.

I like the idea of showing the point of view of both twins, but as they're constantly together and don't have a pronounced difference in their voices I don't really get why we have both their point of views. There's also very little about their cool powers. I also got confused at times by their similar names Sid and Sin and couldn't remember who was the guy and who the girl.

Shifters, Witches, Fae, Oh My!

Induction is a fun and serious romp through the world of the paranormal. Led by the young adults in the family, Sin, for Sinclair and Sid, for Sidonie are twins and, unusual in the same family, a shifter and a witch.

Something is rotten in Belle Cove, the town they live in. The Belle Cove Police Department, BPD, is supposed to hand off any paranormal crime to the SPD, the Supernatural Police Department, but incidents keep happening to interfere.

Induction is a story about prejudice, species, racial and gender persecution. A bitterness that goes back through multiple family lines and is growing through the next generation.

T. K. Eldridge does a great job making a controversial topic easy to read by developing her characters into such relatable people.

The only thing I would change is the constant drinking of alcohol by both the young adults and the older ones. Personally, I think the story is strong enough without it and the precedent it sets for young readers.

Induction kept me hanging on every word and left me waiting for the next book in the series.

Omg! Sid and Sin rock! The characters in this story seemed to jump from the pages. The story was full of non-stop action, magic and twists and turns. I loved it.

DNF at 57%
Started strong, dropping the reader into a scene where the twins were in police custody. Unfortunately, it was the best scene of the book.

POV alternates each chapter between Sin and Sid. Their internal monologues carried the same tone and feel as the other, and since they were typically together it was really just frustrating and confusing to keep track of.

The reason I finally gave up, however, was the lack of depth and connection to the characters, and the inconsistencies. 57% into the first book, and every character and world building event is skipped over. We’re told Sid first shifted at puberty, alone, and was so traumatized she hadn’t done it since. But then Sin goes on a monologue about how Sid’s shifted several times, though only out of necessity. They decide to train with the shifters, but instead of taking readers through that journey, we’re given “We started training with the shifters”. Wait? What? This is sort of a big deal! Is Sid shifting? Is she okay with it? Do you have friends in that circle? Give me something that makes these names more than letters on a paper.
Then they decide to join the Academy where it’s assumed they will endure brutal bullying, harassment, and prejudice. Again, readers are given “We’ve been at the Academy two months now”. WTF! It’s almost as if there was a purposeful attempt to AVOID world building and character development.
This story is simply the dual monologues of twins, with all the important stuff glossed over because it would take to long to hash out.

“Induction (Sid and Sin)” is an interesting read about twins who were born to a shifter and a witch. Usually babies of shifters don’t survive and the fact these two made it and were twins to boot make most paranormals consider them abominations.

Sid is finishing her undergraduate work and planning to go to med school while Sin is planning to go to law school. Well, that was before all hell broke loose and their parents were kidnapped. Soon they discover their is a Purists group operating on the fringe attempting to eliminate them. To make matters worse some members of their family may be involved. That’s when they enroll in Paranormal Police training to sure up they shifting and witchy skills.

This book had a lot going on including lots of action and colorful characters. However, I had a problem with the lack of real relationships for Sid and Sin with other people. Most of the the interaction was between family. Are there any future live interests for these two or will this be a series of cases solved by the family. Also, what’s up with the names? Sid and Sin is just too confusing.

At this point, I’m not sure if I will be going on with this series or not. While I enjoyed this read, something was off for me. Only time will tell.

From the book premise, this story sounds very intriguing and could be a great addition to the supernatural genre; however, what I read ended up disappointing me. It was a quick read, which normally can be a good thing if you're wanting to pass time, but in this case it was due to the poor quality of writing. The characters and plot were so flat, it was often hard to tell who was who and the main plot line was unclear. At times, I felt like I was reading a first draft of a writing workshop piece than a first novel of a series. The sense of time was confusing - the main characters quickly enter police academy, only to graduate "a few months" later and while they are listed as being in their twenties, the way they are written as or interacted with by other characters, they come off more like teenagers just leaving high school. If there is one good aspect of this story, it is the descriptions of the meals and alcoholic drinks the characters are having. Overall, I was frustrated with the quality this story was and unfortunately wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There are far better pieces out there to pass your time with than this.

Better then Hogwarts!

T. K Eldrige has created a winning series in Sid and Sin! The world of magic, shifters, witches, and the fight for equality between the purebred and mixed bloodlines pulled me in on page 1 and kept me there into the very last sentence! The main characters, fraternal twins Sid and Sin, are fascinating and so well -developed you can almost believe they are real! The mystery as to who are the real bad guys and what is the motive for their actions kept me up until the early morning hours wanting to see how it all ended. Then once it ended I wanted to start another Sid and Sin book because I just couldn't get enough of these amazing people! The only problem I have is that there are so many books waiting for me to read, I can't justify buying another book at this time. So I will just have to put the rest of the series on my wish list until I clear the bookshelves...or maybe just buy more shelves!

A lost chance...

The whole time I read this book I couldn’t help but think that something was missing. The characters were fun, the world was built sufficiently, the story didn’t have too many holes, it had all the markings of a good book. I’m still trying to figure it out but it’s really down to it being flat. No tension, the action is without any feeling, and even the emotions between the characters come off flat. I guess I could sum it up by referring to one scene.: A character is kidnapped, tied up, and should be in fear for their life. Instead they ask to go to the bathroom, are allowed, and comeback to hit the bad guy with one hit, knocking him out, and the character then walks out unharmed. See? No tension. The author has plenty of other books, surely one of them is better.

This book was phenomenal! I'm generally fairly picky about what I read, but Sid and Sin pulled me into their world, and I stayed willingly. From the realistic side characters to the believable bad guys and their motives, and everything in between, this story was a spectacular read.

The book starts out strong and stays that way. There's no worry of turning the page to find you can't go on with Induction. From beginning to end, the book captures the reader's interest and keeps it. The story ends on a perfect point, though I would have been happy if it had been two or three times as long, just to continue the adventures of characters I've already grown to really enjoy reading about.

This book wasn’t like bad,,, it was just lacking
Idk how to describe it but there was like no emotion ??
And they all talked really formally for like no reason ?
And they’re names being like exactly the same was so confusing for like no reason
But there weren’t that many grammatical errors that I spotted, just like one or two I think, so I would feel bad giving it one star
Also this just wasn’t what I expected when I picked it up since Amazon sold it to me as a queer romance book which I got none of (maybe it comes later but I got through like half and just was not feeling it so I DNFed) so 0/10 to Amazon (which,,, we been knew) and like 2/5 to the book 🤷

This was another enjoyable story from the box set I have, where unusual twins Sid and Sin battle prejudice amongst the witch and shifter communities. They are unusual because they not only survived at all due to the mix of witch and shifter in their parentage but that each of them inherited both witch and shifter genes /talents.

Then their parents disappear...

I liked both Sid and Sin, two strong and likeable characters, whose battles within the community haven’t changed their inherent goodness. Who are the villains, however? Read this to find out.

A great, fast-paced writing style and good storytelling, though with some grammatical errors, I still enjoyed it.

Recommended.

I absolutely loved this book!
“Induction” is an amazingly enjoyable paranormal tale with an unusual storyline that draws you into the otherworld of Sid and Sin. The characters are authentic and well-developed as they take you along on their journey and the scenes are vivid and realistic. The storyline’s plot is mysterious and twisted in an enjoyable way. I really enjoyed this read and highly recommend it.

Induction is the first book in the Sid & Sin series and is a fabulous start to this new series.

Sidonie & Sinclair Boudreau are introduced in this story as the twin children of a witch and a shifter who have been kidnapped. This book is a page-turner, full of drama, magic, mystery, and family relationships and loyalty.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

Surprising

When I started reading I was very surprised at the twist on the point of view back and forth from two main Charecters who are NOT romantically linked in a book. Usually when an author choices to use this method of writing that's the formula.
Sin and Sid however are twins and adults and linked yet each there own person. It just WORKED for the story, and was an interesting twist to most books. I enjoy it.

In the current world of protests against racism, I was struck by similarities.

Mixed marriage (shifter and witch) leading to mixed-race children. Bigotry - direct and indirect - leading to bullying, murder and other crimes. Cops trained to ignore racially based crimes.

The races need to work together to overcome the prejudice.

I'm sure that I'm probably looking deeper than the story - but sometimes you need to.

This is just up my street, so to speak! It's the starter to a long series, about twins, a girl, Sidonie and a boy, Sinclair, who come from families of witches and shifters. They encounter problems, trials and tests of strength and courage, I liked them both, engaged with them and the cast of characters - and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series! This is the second series starter I've read by T K Eldrige and I feel I'm going to be reading a lot more of this author's works.

Good, quick read

Sin and Sid (keeping their names straight can be a little rough haha) are two smart and competent 20+ year olds. I enjoyed reading their story. If you want a quick but good read and enjoy weres, witches etc this is a good book for you. The timing is slightly off (at some point it mentions they found something out months ago but I think it was days, that or something needs adjusted with how the timing of the book is written). That’s really my only complaint!

An exciting book that was so good, I already bought book 2 in the series. I thought the point of view of the paranormal was interesting, and out of the norm for a lot of takes on what a witch can do, and how a werewolf acts, for instance. There were a lot of characters, but I never got confused as to who was who in the story. And I always appreciate good overcoming evil, and how that was done made for an excellent book.

Sid and Sin are twins born of a shape shifting father and a witch mother. To have living twins of a mismatched union is something that has never happened and to have the parents married and creating this is considered an abomination. There are those attempting to kill not only the parents but the twins as well. It is very hard to know who to trust. That is until someone comes back from the dead! I enjoyed the many twists and turns of this tale and if you read it-- I hope you will as well!

Good kids, not so nice adults

This book once again showed the adults cause most of the problems in the world, and kids need to help fix it. Some parts went quick, ie the studies in the college section, but what was covered moved the story along. Pretty good story with lots of action, fun characters, magic, etc. I recommend this book and hope the rest of the series is as good and fun to read.

Wow!

So, this is the first book in a new series and I LOVED IT!! Sid and Sin are awesome and bring out the joys of having a sibling as well as showing the true understanding of family. The story is fast-paced and keeps you involved from the first page to the last. I can't wait for the second book to come out to see what's in store for my new favorite twins.

I enjoyed getting to know Sid and Sin. It was a fun story but packed a lunch. Good characters. A little hard to follow sometimes switching between Sid taking and then Sin talking but the different perspectives became natural after a few chapters. Looking forward to book two and hope to see more shifting.

I’ve read very few paranormal type books but this author has got me interested. I’m still figuring out all of the intricacies of this life but what I enjoyed about this book was how the author shifted (no paranormal term intended :-) back and forth between the two main characters in the organization of the book. This allowed, for me, a strong character development.

Pleasant Reading

This is my first book by TK Eldridge. While I’m generally not much of a police story, or mystery fan, I liked the flow of this story. It is a solid story of twins, their magic as it is growing, and the strengths of families. Well written, a relaxing reading afternoon.

A confusing tale of Sid and Sin.

It started very well. unfortunately for her it takes a while understand just who is male and female. It does not matter because you are simply seeing the words Did and Sin as your eyes scan the story. I like stories of Shifters and all. But this was a struggle at times to continue.
