Before she could move out of the way, Piers bent down, slid his arm around her waist and kissed her cheek, dangerously close to her mouth. His lips were warm and moist, and she tried to repress a gasp as she caught the whiff of beer, musky aftershave and sweaty socks that always seemed to cling to him.

‘We’re getting too old for dealing with overexcited children all day,’ her granddad replied. ‘Last time I dressed up as Santa… and I’m not even mentioning the fake
Cassie Bell owned Bluebell Cleaning after her mother retired from the business, and she enjoyed nothing better than making her clients smile. She cleaned, cooked, handed out corny jokes from her grandad and generally changed moods from sad to happy. But when Cassie met Belthorn Manor’s new resident, Stefan Lambert, an army helicopter pilot who’d been badly injured while on duty and needed a quiet place to recuperate, she was shocked at his grumpy manner and rudeness. But she was doing her job ...more

Perfect! That’s it, that is all I can say about this book, it really is perfect. I supposed I really should make an effort and actually write more to this review then just one word, but really when you have a book that is perfection, what more is there to say? I suppose I could lament about the beauty of the words and the originality and charming story and absolutely gorgeous hero and fabulous heroine, but once I start talking about this book, I may not be able to stop myself.

Oh, Stefan! My

I would liken this book to a modern version of "Beauty and the Beast" or "The Ugly Duckling."
That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I closed the book. Beautiful, heart-meltingly sweet Christmas romance mixed with some mystery elements. I enjoyed reading this book throughout.

Stefan Lambert was both mentally and physically battered and bruised from a very traumatic incident during his stint in the French Army. He has been battling with a severe sense of guilt since the incident, he

A wonderful and magical story that had me swept about with the history and romance and left me just wanting more! There was so much going on in this story and I found myself totally submerged in the lives of the characters - and in Cassie and Stefan you have 2 people who are polar opposites but just have that spark, that neither can explain!

Cassie runs a cleaning business and is one of life's good guys. Always there to help out whoever needs it and a real delight to be around. So when she's

This book was simply perfect. It filled me with love and happiness and all things bright and nice.

Cassie owned a cleaning service. At the manor, she met a borrish Stefan. He hadbeen injured and pain made him gruff and rude. Cassue was determined to clean the exterior and bring out the sparkle to his interior. Christmas was approaching, and she had to work her magic fast.

Marie Laval is a wonderful storyteller. Her writing made the characters come alive. I loved Stefan as I understood him. He was

A book can be compared to a secret gift. You get a box but you have not the slightest idea what is hidden inside. Opening the book is like opening the box. You can take a peek and slowly start unpacking all the goodies.

What did I find in this parcel?

Snow, because it’s a story that takes place in the festive season to create a winter wonderland.
Love, old and new. Old between friends, between family members. New because two people are finding their way to each other’s heart
Suspense, because there

If there's one thing that this Ginger Book Geek likes to do, it's discovering new authors. Marie Laval is certainly a new author for me. Judging by how much I enjoyed reading 'Bluebell's Christmas Magic', I can guarantee that I will be reading more of her work in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Bluebell's Christmas Magic' but more about that in a bit.
I couldn't help but take to both Cassie and Stefan from the first moment I met them. They meet when she is hired to take care of Stefan

I don’t know if I’m losing my critical faculties as I grow older – although I’ve always been a fan of Christmas books, this year they’ve been better than they’ve ever been. And for those of you who might look the other way when I enthuse about a book’s Christmasness (ok – that may be a made up word) I’d really hate anyone to miss out on this one – it might be a Christmas read at heart, but it’s SO much more than that, and I loved every minute. In fact, I loved it so much that I sat and devoured ...more

Feather dusters at the ready readers

This had me chuckling to myself (on the train I might add) and wasn't at all what I expected.

Cassie is a little bundle of energy and her mission as a professional cleaner is to spread happiness and joy to all her clients. She loves to spread (and spray) a little bit of magic everywhere she goes.

Although, this proves to be more challenging when she has to return to Belthorn Manor - to a place that haunts her.

She has been asked to clean Belthorn Manor as

I bloomin' loved this festive treat of a read from Marie Laval; it was adorable and addictive, I also feel like I want to read it all over again to experience the sprinkles of Christmas magic emanating from the pages. Pure delight!
Cassie Bell took over her mum's cleaning business a few years ago and Bluebell Cleaning is particularly busy during the festive season with holiday lets in the Lake District village fully booked. Cassie has also been assigned a late project to cook and care for Stefan

Tis the season and I have another fun Christmas romantic comedy for you with lots of laughs, a beautiful setting, and a bit of a mystery.

Cassie Bell is struggling to keep her business, Bluebell Cleaning, running, taking care of her 77-year-old jokester of a granddad, staving off unwanted advances from her lecherous landlord, and rescuing a hard-headed and attractive Frenchmen from himself by giving him a Christmas to remember.

Stefan Lambert came to the Cumbrian village of Red Moss to hide from

Everybody needs a housekeeping fairy like Cassie!

Cassie Bell has her own cleaning business, Bluebell Cleaning. In Red Moss she cleans with great pleasure houses and adds a little joke to cheer everyone up. Because a smile can lighten up your day. When she’s hired for the Belthorn Manor, she doesn’t have another option than accepting. She doesn’t like that place at all of what happened a few years ago.Resident at the moment at the Manor is Stefan Lambert, an injured army helicopter pilot. He’s

Do you ever get a feeling about a book like you know you're going to love it before you even open the cover? That you are going to fall in love with the writing and the characters, even though you have never read a book by the author before? Well, this is exactly what happened with Bluebell's Christmas Magic and me. I don't know what made me choose the book, but one look at that cover and I got this warm crazy feeling and it wasn't wrong.

I have found that Marie Laval's novels seem to be a satisfying mix of romance and mystery and this one is no exception, with the added spice of a little touch of magic (maybe...). I thoroughly enjoyed Cassie and Stefan's story. They were such a good contrast at the beginning. Stefan is a broken soul who has been through a traumatic experience and is scarred, physically and emotionally. Enter the bustling Cassie with an open- hearted personality and desire to make life better for those she knows. ...more

I love Marie's writing and although not an out and out fan of Christmas books, I have to say this ticked all the boxes. Cassie was a great heroine. A mixture of warmth and strength, she was so patient in her dealings with Stefan, the French helicopter pilot staying at Belthorn Manor after a bad accident. He was grumpy and resentful of Cassie at first. Her breezy attitude as his cook and cleaner wasn't what he thought he needed. But she was a character who grew on not only him but me as well. ...more

A charming Christmas romance, with a cast of interesting characters, some lovely, others are not, a mystery and a something unquantifiably mystical.

Cassie is an optimistic, happy woman, who works hard and goes out of her way to make others feel happier. Meeting Stefan is unexpected and he appears unmoved by her kindness. Hurt at first, until she realises his physical injuries are just the tip of the iceberg, and his emotional damage is far more severe.

A historical family drama seems to reflect

Although I have read wonderful reviews of Marie Laval's previous books I haven't been able to fit them in. I was determined not to miss out on her Christmas novel and I'm so glad I did because I loved this heart-warming story from the first page till I put it down with a satisfied sigh.

This is the story of Cassie Bell, who lives with her lovely Grandad and runs a cleaning business called Bluebell Cleaning in a village in the beautiful Lake District. As well as her regular cleaning jobs for her

BLUEBELL’S CHRISTMAS MAGIC has a little bit of a whole lot of things that I love about Romance, particularly Christmas Romance. Take one super optimistic, bubbly heroine add one grumpy, growly wounded (both mentally and physically) hero, a definite danger lurking around the edges, a villain(s) skulking around being nasty and with very bad intentions, a crew full of funny, ironic, quirky secondary characters and maybe a ghost mixed liberally with humor, tears, and that

Having read and enjoyed two other books by this author I enthusiastically snatched this up as soon as it became available. I wasn't disappointed, Bluebell's Christmas Magic is lighthearted and fun.

Cassie Bell has taken over her Mother's cleaning service and cares for most of the elderly people in her village. Her most recent job at Belthorn Manor is a challenge, acting as housekeeper and generally looking after Stefan Lambert, a French soldier, who's escaping from the horrors of war and requires

They say when life throws you lemons, make lemonade, but, how many of us would ? Cassie has a “magical” personality and takes that with her wherever she goes trying to bring a touch of happiness to everyone she interacts with. Unfortunately she is also having to battle the biggest of all monsters, “fear”, followed by the finger pointing blame game. To top it off, one of her clients is battling his own demons and that makes for some strained exchanges.

Bluebell’s Christmas Magic is a page turning

This is a modern take on the beauty and the beast story. When Stefan comes to Cassie's town to recover from an horrific helicopter accident alone he is met by a good fairy in the guise of Cassie. As Christmas approaches she is determined to help Stefan despite the difficulties and problems that keep cropping up. A good romance with a Christmas setting. OK, I could have guessed the end but the route was very winding and made this a good book to curl up with beside the fire, perhaps even with your ...more

This story is a bit of a take on the Beauty and the Beast. Cassie’s cleaning company has been hired to look after a temporary visitor to Belthorn Manor, a place she is reluctant to be in, but she has to fulfill her obligations, despite the reluctance of the visitor! However, Stefan is drawn in against his wishes, throw in a few villains, some historical background and events, a good resolution, and there you have an enjoyable read (for any time of year really). Sit back, put your feet up, and ...more

I loved this book from start to finish. A bubbly heroine and a wounded hero - can they get past their fears and history to actually find love? Supported by a great cast of characters from local villagers, to a loving family and from some shady guys to a possible ghost! A wonderful story, highly recommend!

In this new novel by Marie Laval (the third published by Choc Lit, and I hope there will be many more), an "overly cheerful" cleaner (and aspiring interior designer) meets a injured helicopter pilot who thinks that meeting her is "enough socialising for one day" (and even "No, make that a month"). I immediately liked both of them, as well as Cassie's grandfather with his silly jokes and puns. There are also some much less likeable characters with bad intentions that the reader can often guess ...more
