A comprehensive guide to the joys of walking presents essential background information for planning and undertaking walking tours throughout the United States, the Virgin Islands, and Europe
I found this book on a book shelf at my moms house. So interesting to see how things have changed since it was written (women should walk in comfortable long skirts) and how much has stayed the same. But I enjoyed a whole bunch of snippets from writers who wrote about walking and have found a few that now I want to read their books.
This book contains some interesting material on those throughout history that saw the importance of walking and some other interesting information about walking in general, not that the info is not already known, but mostly forgotten. But this book was written in 1969 and as someone reading it in 2015 it is terribly outdated. If there were to be a revised edition to fit modern times that would be good. A few of the chapters are rather strange as one is a list of places around the world for walking listing National Parks in the US and mountainous areas of other countries. Another chapter was devoted to "your pedestrian comfort and convenience".
Not that the information is not relevant today, it is, but there needs to be a revised/updated version written in modern language in my opinion.
