Perform a flawless Level 10 gymnastics routine? Easy. Jump fourteen feet in the air using a spindly fiberglass pole? Please. Turn two hundred dollars into a six-figure business? Piece of cake. Live in a house with sixteen strangers, surrounded by cameras? Uh . . .
With a wry sense of humor and fearless attitude, Angela Rummans takes us on a journey from top-tier athlete to reality TV star and self-made businesswoman in this tell-all memoir. Along the way, she shares powerful lessons of how to get back up when life knocks you down.
Throughout the book, Angela rips the band-aid off her most painful moments and tells life where to stick those lemons. From her highest highs—competing in pole vault at the Olympic level, building a business from scratch and finding her soulmate—to the lowest lows, she shows how it is truly possible to reinvent yourself as many times as you want.
As a live feeder, very little was new from her telling of her life story although a little more in-depth. It was a lot better than I anticipated. (No shade, just never know what the quality of the writing will be). I didn’t love the organization but it did flow in a way that kept me interested.
I came and went while reading this. But as I sat with my cup of tea and clear intention of finally getting back into reading again, I realized this book was exactly what I needed. Angela took me on a ride like no other, I never knew what to expect with a flip of a page. Her writing style may not be for everyone but I loved the jump from different timelines, she seamlessly intertwined past with present and each chapter came full circle. I laughed and I cried reading about her journey through adolescence and early adulthood. Thank you to Angela for fighting your demons and coming to us "Unapologetically Unbothered".
I honestly hesitated reading this because I’m picky about how I spend my time. Being a teacher and mother of three “oh so dramatic” girls I don’t have much free time. Big Brother is one of my guilty pleasures that I dive into deeply each summer. I’m a super fan, live feeder and Twitter follower (like Tyler). I (embarrassingly) admit I spent more than my fair share of time watching these two fall in love during their Big Brother season. I couldn’t wait each day to turn on the feeds and see how these two would manage to find some alone time to nurture their relationship that day. Watching them reminded me of how it was when my husband and I were first falling for one another. Anyhow, it took two strong people to stay focused and disciplined on the game, despite their strong feelings. They both had matching priorities and the mature understanding of what had to be done. I felt that I should read the book to maintain my commitment to ship tangela. Didn’t know what the quality would be but I was cautiously optimistic. I was hoping at least to get a little extra scoop on their viewpoint of how it all began. I was pleasantly surprised that I could barely put the book down. I’m so glad to see Angela validating all of the things that I have learned and decided over the years...living by my gut feeling and expecting that what is meant to be will ultimately happen. Everything happens for a reason and you have to keep moving onward toward your goals and dreams...taking turns, curves and u-turns as you feel necessary...unapologetically doing what you think is best. I will encourage all three of my daughters to read this book. I’d consider it a must read regardless of whether I was a huge Tangela fan, or not.
I originally decided to read this book because I became a fan of the author while watching her compete on a reality game show, and I wanted to support her. I figured, through reading, that I would find more respect and admiration for the author, but that I wouldn’t necessarily be moved by or relate to it personally because I’m not an athlete, model or business owner. Boy, I could not have been more wrong. Angela does a wonderful job of relating her experiences and life lessons learned to everyone. You don’t have to be an athlete to understand the pressure we as humans put on ourselves to be perfect, and you don’t have to be an entrepreneur to understand the fear of embarking on a new adventure, unsure of whether things will work out or not. This book has inspired me to take more risks, put myself out there without fear of failure or rejection and live my life completely “Unbothered.”
I loved the message she was getting across. I love her outlook on life. Even the parts I thought would be boring (ie the pole vaulting) was interesting.
However it got a little repetitive sometimes. Also one of my biggest pet peeves in writing is when people feel they need to name drop brands. Instead of saying purse they say “fendi purse” instead of saying jeans they have to say the brand name. It comes off icky to me but that’s my own personal preference. It’s something that she does in this book and it took me out of it every time.
Overall though I loved reading about her journey. I loved seeing how she looks at the world. It’s a book I would recommend to others to read. I don’t know how much rereadability it has for me but I’m glad I read it.
I loved this book! I followed you on big brother. You are such a role model for girls! After everything you have been through with all of your life experiences you have so much to share with the world. I know you are making a difference with people who have been through similar struggles. I would definitely recommend this book! I hope you write another book!!
I have been waiting for the book to come out since she announced she was writing it and it did not disappoint. My son and I loved Tyler and Angela on BB20, you could tell on the show by the little piece of her life she gave there was so much more to her. What a story she has, thank you Angela for putting yourself out there and sharing your life, the good, bad and ugly with everyone! What an inspiration you are to all, a true role model.
Great book, couldn’t put it down until I finished it.
This book is a great for any young girl stuck in the gym and can’t move on, any Professional athlete who is lost their direction or anyone that needs to step back and re-examine their lives. Angela never gave up reinventing herself and I think other people may learn from her story. Great book Angela!
If you follow Angela- love her or hate her- read this book. I loved her (and Tyler) from day one. I literally could not put this book down- read it in a little over a day. Now I’m patiently waiting for book 2- The love story! Give the readers what they want Angela!
Angela’s storytelling is pretty good. This is mostly because she has a good story. The writing could improve a lot with more work and editing. However, I still enjoyed this motivational memoir because of how much I loved season 20 of Big Brother on CBS.
A sensitive, emotional and uplifting read. A five star bravo*****
I’m a huge Big Brother fan, and have watched every season since the beginning. I just finished watching season 20 again about a week ago (which has been my absolute favorite ever). So when I was looking at Angela’s cookbook on Amazon, I happily came across Unbothered, immediately checked out the Kindle Unlimited version, plunked my self into my comfortable reading place, and read far far into the night. Couldn’t put it down! As I said, having just watched season 20 of BB, everything that is talked about in the book was so clear to me, and very touching to actually hear in her own words the beautiful beginning love story of Angela and Tyler. I give her so much credit for letting us into her world of gymnastics, pole volting ,(and without spoilers), her extremely personal situations. Her openness and honesty during those dark times were admirable. It had to be painful. The ending actually perfect, although I was sad to finish. . . Hopefully, she’ll give us fans more of her incredible stories in the years to come!! She is an inspiration to us all. Best wishes to the two of them❤️
I have never read a book that has touched me as much as this one has. Angela’s story is incredibly inspiring and has left me in tears. She has always been someone I look up to and now I’m even more in awe of her accomplishments. Although the many struggles and the trauma she has been through, her journey towards self-love and independence is inspiring. I have learned a lot from this book and I aspire to have a mindset as unapologetic as hers.
The storyline seemed a bit all over the place with little structure. However, I enjoyed learning about Angela’s past on a deeper level. The struggles that inevitably led her to where she is now, and I know she will continue to grow!
This book is a lot better than I was expecting. It wasn't just about her time on Big Brother. She did a nice jobs of detailing the different phases of her life and what she took away from it. Overall, it was a nice and easy read.
A sweet, captivating story that teaches its readers that you are enough. You can be whatever you want to be whenever you want to be it. Aside from a few grammatical errors, this book was inspiring. The author pours her soul into this novel and truly teaches us what a unbothered life looks like.
I read tons of books but rarely read memoirs. However, when I saw this one announced, I couldn't wait. I have watched every season of Big Brother. BB20 was one of the best seasons, ever. I loved Angela's gameplay and felt she got such an unfair edit. I enjoyed watching her and Tyler play the game. I'm also a sucker for a great romance story. Their story is heart-warming.
I devoured this book. Angela is a BADASS. She is incredibly brave and talented. It would take great strength and a vulnerability to write about your own life. I'd love to see her narrate this book on audio. I'm sure this won't be the last book we get from the talented Miss Rummings.
I was very impressed to read your story I watched you on big brother and to be honest you weren’t my favorite but after watching the live feed’s I learned you had something special I enjoyed watching your growth. You have become an amazing woman and you should be very proud of yourself.I’ve been wanting to write a children’s book for years and after reading your book I know it’s time so thank you for that I can’t wait to see how you’re in Tyler’s journey continues God bless.
I picked up this book because I am a huge Big Brother fan. Angela was one of my favorite contestants on the show so it was natural that I wanted to read this book because I thought it was tell about all the behind the scenes stories. However, yes it is filled with those behind the scenes stories but it is filled with so much more. This book is a book of overcoming adversity and learning what it truly means to live life unbothered.
Honest and open (unbothered) story of a very courageous woman. A role model to all young women.
The story of a young woman who pushed herself to the breaking point and how she survived. The love of her life helped her see what she was missing by staying closed off. He brought down walls. This is a story of surviving as well as a love story. Highly recommend.
This book is amazing and inspiring it is a must read and I will recommend it to everyone in my life.
This book teaches us about self love not only to ourselves but to people we meet cause you never know what someone is struggling with inside so it is better to try and learn something new about some one before you judge them.
