Still Standing: A Pregnant Woman. A brutal attack. An inspirational fight for survival.

Rate this book
Natalie Queiroz was eight months pregnant when she was stabbed by her partner in the most vicious attack imaginable. In the space of nine minutes, and in broad daylight, Natalie was stabbed twenty-four times with a carving knife. She suffered horrific wounds to her lungs, liver, stomach and uterus, whilst the knife missed her baby by a margin of two millimeters, before the arteries in her wrists were methodically severed by the hooded attacker she finally realised was her partner and the father of her unborn child. After heroic intervention by passers-by and police, the attack was brought to an end, but her ordeal was not over. An air ambulance rescue was launched, and against all medical odds, Natalie and her baby survived - but not without life-changing physical and emotional damage.Still Standing is the story of one life-shattering event - what came before that fateful day, what happened on it, and how one woman and her baby survived to rebuild and heal together after it. At once a shocking story of evil, manipulation and violence, and a truly moving reminder that a life can be pieced back together, no matter how bad the damage, this book will empower and inspire anyone who has ever faced true adversity to rise up and stand tall.

Heartbreaking + Brilliant!

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. I was so emotionally entangled in the story from the very beginning that I could not put it down. Her account of the actual act was absolutely shocking…that she could recall nearly all of the nine-minute attack is just unbelievable. I can’t even imagine watching the man that I love continually stabbing me. I think my jaw was literally hitting the table. While I can’t relate to the physical scars, I can relate (somewhat) to the emotional scars of discovering that the man that I live was all lies and not who I thought. I definitely had flashbacks of my own trauma from my previous marriage. It was both difficult to go down that road, but also enlightening. I pray for you and your girls, Natalie.

I felt incredibly humbled, emotional and moved after finishing this account of Natalie's shocking story of attack and subsequent survival.

"Good truly can come out of anything."

Very inspiring to read. And how blessed she is by her supportive family and friends and daughters in spite of the trauma and evil she has had to face. An incredible story. Incredulous to read and what a brave lady. May she go from strength to strength surrounded by all the love she deserves. Read it with tears in my eyes ... I hope many many people read her book and it helps them be brave and strong in adversity too. Humbling.

Wow, wow, wow. Betrayal and psychopath comes to my mind. How can a partner who loves Natalie so much stalk her just to try and kill her and her Bebe. Bobby stabbed her 24 times because he felt like a failure. Not only did he lie to her, betrayed her but has no remorse for what he did. Obviously there’s something super wrong with him…
It makes me angry for the author and every other woman who suffers the same consequences.

What an inspirational woman

What Natalie went through at the hands of someone who she thought she loved and thought he loved her was absolutely horrific. The fact that her and her daughter are still here shows what an inspirational woman she really is. The person who did this really shouldn't see the light of day again in my opinion.

Very difficult and emotional to read

What an amazing and beautiful woman to survive and thrive after this horrendous attack from someone she loved and trusted so much. He deserves a much longer sentence than he got for trying to murder his daughter as well as Natalie as this was clearly a pre meditated attack.

Inspirational

What an amazing book. Just finished it with tears streaming down my face. One cannot imagine the physical and emotional pain that Natalie has been through. The bravery of the people who tried to help her was awesome. Thank goodness she had such a strong support network around her to help her through this. It was really interesting to read the effect well meaning, but thoughtless comments had on her during the early stages of her recovery. It will certainly !take me think twice about the way to approach someone who has been through an event you cannot possibly relate to.

She dealt, and is still dealing, with this horrible, life-changing, event great dignity and I hope the future hold a lot of happiness for her.
