Eight Wings Academy #1

Faeling for Them

Rate this book

In a world where witches hate the Fae, Gabriella has just broken the borders between the races wide open...

Gabriella is a bad witch. Well, she's not evil, she just sucks at magic, and when she turns eighteen, the unthinkable happens: she grows a pair of wings.

Human born Fae are nothing new. An oddity to be sure, but witch born Fae?

They're a whole other ball of wax.

When she's summoned to the Eight Wings Academy at twenty-five, the doo-dah hits the fan as harsh truths are revealed to her about the Fae. But no matter how hard Gabriella tries to flunk, to escape a society forged on lies, she can't do it.

And it isn't because she's a brilliant student, either.

She sucks. Hard.

Something, or someone, is making sure she passes, keeping her at the Academy against her will, ensuring she heads straight into the warrior caste and into a troupe with three other Fae.

Except her troupe?

They just happen to be her Virgo—her fated mates.

And where Virgo are concerned, they have the final say on whether she claims them or not.

She's FAELING FOR THEM, but can she convince them she's a good catch? When she knows, point blank, she isn't...?

Find out in book ONE of the Eight Wings Academy trilogy.

OHMYGODS!!!! That ending was beyond epic!!!! Seriously, I'm going to suffer from this book hangover for days. I love love loved this book!!! I'm dying to get my grubby hands on book two.

This was a completely different type of omega verse than I have read before. It was completely awesome! Oh and the author owes me some chocolate to recover from the scorching heat in the end.

I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

Faeling For Them was so slow. I felt like the whole book was like a prologue more than a first book in a series. Things are happening but not enough, it's just bland for the content presented in this one.

Gabriella is okay, I didn't find her anything special. Her harem was even less interesting than her. It just feels like we spent so much time on the mundane stuff that we forget to add any kind of liveliness to our main characters. All of them felt stiff and just very minimally fleshed out in personality or details. Their relationship feels very unnatural, even from the fated mates angle. The development moves from barely having any interactive scenes with the guys to suddenly a group with things progressing towards sex at the cost of forced chemistry. I mean they literally think the bond as changing their feelings, it's like a switch reaction from the harem feeling indifferent towards Gabriella to suddenly going bonkers over her. It's just weird and not romantic.

The plot itself is absent with nothing being concretely set beyond Gabriella being fae/witch hybrid and that could cause trouble for her from the faes, that's it. It's like the book doesn't have a motive, there is no build up towards anything beyond just figuring out things about Gabriella's hybrid nature and powers and the building blocks of a relationship with a sprinkling of someone trying to keep her in the academy and someone equally wanting her out shown through maybe one scene. It's why it reads like a prologue. There is just not enough content to really feel like this book was trying, things only got interesting for the cliffhanger scene.

Serena Akeroyd has got to be one of my favorite authors when it comes to RH. Her plots are always interesting. And for those of you who like good steam, she's the author for you. I don't know what it is, but she writes some filthy sexy scenes! Can't wait for book two to be released this month.

On the fence about this.

Not what I was hoping for. There is a lot of dominating behaviour by the guys, and they are quite selfish and arrogant which isn’t the most endearing qualities to have in a make mc - let alone 4.

The instructors at the academy are cruel and there is something moving behind the scenes that is just out of my grasp. So while not the best PR, I’m going to pick up book 2 to see what happens after the cliffhanger end.

So it is academy and it is omegaverse, so I liked the majority but towards the end things start going in a different direction.

Gabrielle is strong prickly and as the guys say make a hedgehog look cuddly and the only witch fae hybrid. Three guys Joseph, Matthew and Daniel. Multiple POVs.

No knotting but does go down the alpha omega route. I liked how all four of them are clueless and discovering things together. The change caught me off guard at first but I’d like to see where this one goes. Does end on a cliffhanger that is slightly wtf.

Thought the book was interesting but one thing that bothers me is when the book cover looks nothing like the description of the main character. Gabrielle is Hispanic with mocha skin and black hair and the girl on the front cover (which I would like if it fit) is blonde?

Just...no(spoilerish)

One thing i do not expect to experience while reading a reverse harem, especially a paranormal or fantasy based RH, is boredom. The entire first part of this book is a waste of space. Useless filler. Pure drivel. The main basis of the entire first half of this book is the FMC to complain about her mixed heritage, her hatred of fae and the unfairness of their oppression of witches. (Truly, its not the oppression that was annoying. It was the fact that she repeated the fact a dozen times over and over to explain her dislike of fae, which would have been, if the other three or four points of the books hadnt followed the same patterns)

Every main point is repeated to the point of redundancy. In the first six or more chapters, she is literally just repeating the same ideas over and over and not at all in an interesting way. I tried to sympathize with her but she was too whiny, too self pitying and woe as me. She doesn't come off as strong, just bitchy.

The romance aspect was just horribly done. For one, i prefer alpha males and these three were not. Of course, a good story can make up for that and I've cone to adore some betas but the problem is that there is no romance at all. Bonds are a tricky concept. If done correctly, it can be a love that transcends reality. But the bond must be only a part of the couples relationship. Here, they didn't even like each other until the bond formed and then suddenly, they're having mediocre sex. (Medicore sex, and that's being polite). I didn't believe in these four being made to last. The only connection they share is a bond which means their feelings aren't real and isn't that usually the beautiful thing about bonding. It doesn't determine love, but is only there to give it this magical oomph? It just didn't work here in my opinion.

I don't like the FMC. She's just not my type of heroine. We aren't all fighters and that's okay but she doesn't even want to try. She comes off as such a pathetic person. Maybe it's just me. I'm too competitive. If i see a mountain, i want to conquer it. It's okay to be scared of that damn mountain but thats what is so amazing brave heroines. She is just impossible to like.

I will not be bothering with the rest in series. I will check out some other series by this authir because the only thing that kept me reading despite disliking every character here was the writing. There were times i laughed and wanted to read a certain paragraph again. I was curious enough to see where it went.

But that ending? It was a cliffhanger and not a very good one. I've never felt such apathy for a story in my life. I do not care at all how their story ends

Strong, sassy, and sexy!

I love, love, love this book! And impatiently waiting for the second book!! This isn't my first paranormal read, but my first from Serena and she has me sold again! I need to read all her other books and I want more from this troupe. Her story telling and descriptions draw me in every time and give me a steamy hug ;)

Gabriella has a lot stacked against her because if being a terrible witch isn't enough let's add a set of wing. The Fae and witches will be thrilled just like her mama. Not! Then comes the fated day she's called to the Eight Wings Academy for training and placement within the Fae community. But don't worry, she's a sexy, sassy, and strong Latina woman who is NOT going to be told what to do, by anyone. Even by 3 very yummy Fae, too bad they are her fates mates!

Matthew, Daniel and Joseph are hot as hades Fae that I would love to lick. They all come from different families and different castes but make it through their tests and choose the feisty Gabriella as part of their troupe. It just might take all 3 of them to tame her but also protect her. There are forces out there that want to hurt Gabriella and a lot of secrets to uncover.

Serena did an amazing job building up their world but I need more. So many unanswered questions and details I need to know. So much more bonding ;) ;) thats is needed. And as always....she knows how to end a book because yes people there is a cliffhanger!

Highly recommend this book!!!

Great read

This story has a different take on witches and fae than any other I’ve read. The connection and the magic of the two races is a very interesting twist. Gabriella is half witch half fae and is suddenly called in to the fae training academy even though she’s been in hiding her entire adult life. Cut off from family, friends the career and life she chose she now faces the world that both requires her to join yet reviles her for being less. And yet there are three who are different. Their relationship starts out antagonist to say the least but is developing into something all encompassing. Right as they are starting to gel as a unit a blast from the past comes calling. A heck of a cliffhanger!
A bit slow in the beginning but worthwhile to see why there is antipathy between the races and why the unlikely relationship is so special. Definitely a winner.

Great!

This really breaks the mold of the typical academy RH, adding in some omega verse rules, New Fae myths, Intriguing world building and a reluctant bond that is just getting started. Very entertaining.

Pros:
- Very Intriguing.
- Latina FMC... finally!!
- Mixed language throughout.
- Only The important parts are really covered, so you jump forward in time a few instances, eliminates drivel or filler writing.

Cons:
- It’s a bit hard to get into in the beginning.
- omega verse just may mess up your feminist mind set, but not quite? Unsure just yet.

This is kinda different. I'll admit....Gabriella isn't one of those likable characters. I liked her more towards the end than I did at the beginning. She was cantankerous and against pretty much everything. You know she didnt want to be there and did everything she could to get sent home. Nope...someone wants her there. She's ignored by all the students and the staff dislike her immensely. Her behavior is understandable. She was born witch and later got wings. The Fae arent the greatest people ever and thats pretty much all she knows. I have to agree at this point they arent great but they aren't totally evil either. I'm thinking there are some not great things she'll learn about witches in the coming books too. She's drawn to 3 guys. Daniel, Matthew, and Joseph. I have to say they are very different. They were raised different and although they have their issues they aren't mean to her but they arent overly nice to her either. They figure out what she is and its unheard of and well someone tries to kill her. They are her mates and they are all reluctant with good reason. However, they all start to embrace it and get some training done for the testing ahead. She's not looking forward to it but starts to soften the more time she spends with her guys. The end is a cliffhanger so I'll warn ya now. I still dont quite understand whats going on and its not exactly clear. Its kinda scattered at this point. Hopefully book 2 will shed some light.

Gabriella is a witch whose magic goes wrong every time she tries to use it. She was brought up believing she was a human born fae. She was summoned to attend the fae academy and so she hid her witch side. There she is bullied by students and instructors alike. She only wanted to go home. While at the academy, she was brought into a troupe by 3 male students in an attempt to teach her how to fly and fight, all while they could also protect her. Life got very interesting after a visit from her dead grandmother.
Serena did an amazing job at world building and storytelling within this series. This is a complete series. I really enjoyed this series. If you like pnr with fae, witches, RH, magic, etc. I believe you will like this series. I couldn’t put it down and when I was finished I needed a few days to think about what to write in my review. This is all I could think of as to not give away the story. Definitely recommend it!

Gaby spends 8 months suffering loneliness at the academy for the fae, she happens to be from a human/witch/fae descend. Someone helps makes it so that she passes her big exam and is promoted to a warrior in training. Then the males she was obsessed about all along pay her some attention and she becomes their troupe's fourth member. Too bad she has no warrior abilities, in fact she can hardly fly with her wings let alone use a sword.
They all learn that the men are her Virgo, or in other words, her fated mates. They feel crazy attraction towards one another so at the end of the book they have one big sexy foursome.
The book ends with a cliffhanger.
It's well written and the world-building is great. The MFC is interesting to read about. Their inner musings can be a bit tiresome so I'd try to get quickly over them to get to the dialogue.

Different take of Fae and witches!

This was a quirky story about a very angry, snarky and fed up witch who just wants to go back to being a regular witch instead of a Fae witch hybrid.

Throw in an academy of Fae where you are taught to duel in the sky, some delicious men that are growly and are turning into baser animals following the instinct of mating and you have yourselves an interesting story.

This was a quick read that I read in one go and a great foundation for the upcoming books.

“Hispanic to her core”

lol the “shes not like other fae she’s hispanic” has me gagging. in the beginning there was a part that the main female character was like i don’t want be a fiery latina like my mom and the women in my family and i was oh self hate but okay maybe the author is hispanic maybe here is an angle idk but there isn’t it’s just to differentiate her self. like yeah i’m tan and look diff (“exotic”) but NO im not a hot head. i’m diff choose me want me love me i’m better vibes…. so yeah i’m good

Waited for all three books to be published before I read.
I'm a fan of her Quintessence Series and Kingdom Of Veronia, but somehow this series was a huge build-up to a very small explosion. I kept hoping that it would get better.

There are some interesting ideas, but overall the characters weren't that well developed.
Kinda rushed and the whole trilogy read like the author was trying to catch a trend wave with the recent interest in 'Academy Romance', but got a low impact on shore.

I can dig it

Wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this book, but I like it so far. Some of the writing caught me off guard and felt almost overwhelming with the descriptions but prob better to over describe than not enough. Not sure who my favorites are yet and I’m not sure how I feel about the MC now with the bond changing all of them. definitely going to read the next one to see what happens next.

I'm not going to leave a star review. I always feel bad leaving anything less than 2 stars. But this was sooooo slow. I couldn't get into this. I fell asleep reading it which is unheard of for me. I really liked the premise but I was disappointed. I'm sorry. I feel bad but we can't all love them all. I'm glad others enjoyed this. I CAN see how some people could like this. Just too slow for me to keep interested.

Hard for me to read

I've mentioned in other reviews that I have a reading comprehension problem, and this book is extremely hard for me to read. This book seem like it was extremely all over the place and mostly about back story I didn't seem like it had in a current content besides the harem getting together. If there was a little bit more going on currently then it may have been a better story. Unfortunately it is not my style.

It could have been better. But I just wasn’t into it. I didn’t even finish. I just think the FMC was whiny. Girl I’m sorry you are weird and was born both fae and witch, and that your family sucks, everything just sucks. But the FMC could acted! Like hell! Practice your witch magic and flying with your wings! Get stronger, read and learn more knowledge! Just don’t hide, whine, and complain!

This wasn’t one of her better books in my opinion.

The overall plot was intriguing enough that I moved onto the next book. The characters don’t start out as super likeable, especially Gabriella IMO. I had just read some other magical teenager high school books and those were more bully romances to start, so I was expecting the same. She’s not really bullied, but she is very antisocial and rude to people. She has her reasons, but I don’t think they’re very good reasons. They do get better later.

only giving it a 3/5 ⭐ because I liked the MMCs. I did not like the writing style or the quickness of the storyline. felt really really rushed. the spice was 4/5🌶️ but for quantity, not quality. meaning, there was a lot of spice but was it good spice? no. not IMO. I just didn't think the characters connected because they didn't even know each other, but we're all of a sudden in love and hell bent on protecting the FMC. like I said super rushed. not for me 😭

Confusing at first

I was terribly confused at first reading this. Almost to the point where, if I would’ve closed the book for good, I would’ve been fine. But something kept me going, and suffice to say I’m happy I did. I’m not used to reverse harems where the men are appalled at the situation. Can’t wait for the next.

Serena Akeroyd is simply amazing! I love her writing! I have seriously not read a single book of hers that I did not love, and this book is no exception! The storyline is unique and captivating. The characters are great! I love the MC, Gabrielle, and her 3 guys, Matthew, Joseph, and Daniel. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

First part of the book was sooo long, really had to push me to keep on going.
Good thing I did because the second part of the book is lovely and what I was expecting.

The book ended in a huge cliffhanger and I started the second book right away!

Would have given 4 stars if it wasn’t for the part 1 of the book.

Easy read, Gabriella was a good main character who didn’t let others put her down. That was about the only thing that worked for me. I think others have the potential to love this book more than me because she had three dominant men and turned submissive, that’s not something that I like but I think it was written well and others will.
