This is a must read book - it's not your normal story. This book is about life in the real world where people take their own life and how it affects the loved ones they leave behind. This is a well written story with heartbreak, survivors guilt, love and suffering. If you read one book this year - it should be this one.

This book needs to come with a tissue warning! For a short story, this has all the feels! What an emotionally charged story of friendship, love, loss and survival during a tragic time. Liam struggles with the loss of his best friend, Byron, while trying his best to be supportive to not only his family but Eva and Hunter, Byron's wife and child, as well. From the first page of the foreword to the last page, I was riveted. I am so looking forward to reading the next book, Along the Shore, about Ev

A wonderful, emotive story!!
This is the second time I've read (and reviewed) this book. Initially it was part of the Letting Hope Enter anthology, but Maggie has republished it with the addition of the Foreword and Afterword as a prequel to Along The Shore.
I read the whole, beautiful story with tears in my eyes. Maggie tells this story with such compassion, showing how the characters come to terms with and grieve suicide and death. I felt every emotion that was written, deep within my soul!! And ...more

In the Surf is a beautiful story of the heartache and emotions of the ones still here, when a friend or love one takes their own life.
The hurt and despair comes through in Maggie Jane Schuler's words. Liam's struggle to come to terms with his best friends death is heartbreaking.
Suicide has touched too many lives, hearing about this side of, after the death and the guilt involved was hard to read, yet healing at the same time.

Where to start.... this book is emotional so I suggest having some tissues on hand. I have never lost a loved one to suicide but after reading this book it has opened my eyes, with the statistics that was given I never realized how many people have taken their lives and have attempted too. Someone can seem like a happy person on the outside but on the inside we don't know what they are going thru, remember to check up on your friends and loved ones to see how they are don't be judgemental if the

WOW! Where does one start to describe this absolutely heartbreaking but beautifully written story..... This tragic story is something that has probably affected so many of us. Depression/anxiety is still something that people don't like to share or discuss, feeling ashamed or embarrassed to admit that they are struggling. I felt Maggies words and her story, relating to times when it's affected my loved ones as well. I only hope people start to understand this illness more and learn to be more ex

Maybe a novella but it packs a wallop!
This is a beautifully written story of life after suicide from the best friend's perspective. Have a full tissue box next to you because the feels are very real and deep! Liam 's mind is in turmoil as he tries to reason what he missed seeing, as well as being strong for the widow, Eva, and his own family, how to come to terms with what happen and what the next step is, is there next. Reading through tears at the very real questions and no one to answer. Very ...more

A must read.
Heartwrenching.
Only downside is the terribly designed cover. It doesn't do the book justice. ...more

Maggie Jane Schuler is a wife, mother of three almost grown children, and teacher by day. While she has always loved to read, the thought of writing her own prose did not strike until she was in the middle of writing her Master’s Thesis. From that point on she was hooked.
