I honestly don't quite know what to make of this. Because, as much as I appreciated such an extraordinary viewpoint of the majorly harrowing subject matter tackled here, there were just so many issues that kept pulling me out of the story.
These things may not bother many, but they niggled me something fierce.
Like, I had to double-check on GR that the author was legitimately British (she is) due to the number of questionable plot points throughout.
It would have made more sense, imo, to age Tayla as 17 and preparing for university rather than as a school leaver preparing for college. Teens don't tend to move away from home for college, student accommodation isn't available to 16-year-olds, and college courses tend to only be 2 years, not 3. Also, one test would not have been enough to make up for Tayla's missed GCSE's.
And why on earth was the weather always so good? I mean, I know it's set in the South West of the UK, but it's still the friggin' UK!
There was just this feeling that everything was a little too slightly Americanised for no good reason.
Another problematic element was how little so many of her traumatic experiences seemed to scar her. For example, in one scene,
This was an interesting read - dark and unique - and, for the most part, very well written. But I really wish more attention had been paid to the finer details and to fleshing out Tayla's mindset, as this would have made for a far more immersive experience.
All-in-all, though, I would absolutely be interested in checking out this author's future work.

I was on a huge erotica and romance reading spree that I expected this to be on the similar lines.
But this is anything but.
This book is definitely not a sweet romance. It is too dark yet this is not an erotica.
It is a cruel reality and it kept me thinking.
The perfect case of ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.
Tayla is 16 years old girl content with her life. She had good friends, nice boyfriend. But suddenly she is kidnapped and taken to a dirty place where many girls like her were kept captive. These girls were treated horribly. Tayla tries to escape a lot of time but only to be captured again. There was this guy named Damien who was one of her kidnapper. He was quite fascinated with her.
After four months, luckily the girls are rescued. Tayla gets back to her life. She joins a college near her home as she is quite scared to go out of country. She even gets a new boyfriend and new friends. Life is again going well for her and suddenly she starts receiving letters. Someone is obsessed with her and is stalking her. And her life is back at being hell.
Due to the heavy nature of the book, I found this book quite emotionally draining. I don’t know what to feel about the ending.

Good Dark read!
I've read some dark disturbing reads and I must say that this one kept me intrigued irritated and conflicted throughout the dark storyline that at times was a lot to try and wrap my mind around or even willing to accept the words I was forced to read. Kidnapping, rape, violence, disturbing twists, a naive teenager that stays naive even after under all the life shattering circumstances she is put through and then an unexpected ending that has me conflicted and not sitting right with the way it ended but it was still a good read that I was finally glad to have reached the shocking end.

CW: This book contains scenes of abuse and sexual abuse. Mature (18+) readers only.
This is a twisted dark story that has been written incredibly well.
Full of suspense, drama and some twisted happenings that at times are very hard to read but this just adds the depth to the story and it is not over the top or glorifying in anyway.
The characters have been written incredibly well and fleshed out very well.
The plot and story line have been incredibly well written and the ending I did not see coming at all.
I hope to read more in this series.
Recommend reading.

Taken by Sarah Jayne Harry. The blurb and my semi twisted curiosity had me hooked from the start with this book. I thought it had a lot of potential and I was really surprised by the outcome (not really what I was expecting at all). It’s almost has a movie like quality of drama and angst and at times, really over the top. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the 2nd book I've read written by Sarah Jayne Harry; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

An incredible story that does include abuse and sexual abuse, which is horrifying. But the story must be told because it does happen and people need to know about it. It is a compelling read that hooked me from the start. This author is a fantastic writer and kept my interest throughout the book.

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: Taken
𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: Sarah Jayne Harry
𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
I love reading mysteries, so recently I read Taken by the author Sarah Jayne Harriy. The story is set in the coastal town of Newquay, Cornwall. One night, when Tayla Robinson was walking home from the party, she realized that someone is following her. She quickly made to her home and saw a strange man on the other side of the street. Since everything was alright, Tayla decided not to share this with her parents. Then same strange man appeared at the food court and at Tayla's school but he disappeared quickly.
When Tayla was walking to her home from Karen's home, she was unaware of the fact that danger is waiting for her. She was pulled in the white van and was taken to the warehouse outside of England. What will happen with Tayla, she is far away from her home? Will she be able to escape or not?
This is a dark tale that one should definitely read. Story is full of mystery, suspense, drama, abuse, friendship to hook the readers. An action packed story with so many twists and turns that you should definitely pick this one to read. Super excited to read the sequel of this. Since the book contains sexual abuse, so it is only recommended for adults.

I’m a little speechless right now, I’m unsure how my review will do this book justice. Firstly let me start with, this is not a book for the faint hearted. The themes and story in this book, unfortunately in many cases are very real.
However, I absolutely NEED the next book in this series. I haven’t been able to put this one down, I have been completely pulled into the story and found myself on edge and desperate to know how this one was going to play out.
This book is completely unique to anything I’ve read previously and I have to say I have been completely captivated. I’ve been completely pulled in and left utterly speechless…. I need more immediately.
I have so many unanswered questions, I really Hope book two clears them up. Tayla is a great main character, although at times you question her sanity.
This is definitely a book that will stay with me. I have been gripped and cannot stop the questions. I need the next book.
This is a book that is so good, I’d go as far as saying it is one of the best I’ve read this year. Highly deserving of five stars and Sarah, if you read this which I hope you do- did I mention I NEED BOOK 2?

Taken
By
Sarah Jayne Harry
Content Warning: Sexual Abuse
Taken is a captivating story. Title of the story couldn't have been better than this. It's a story of a sixteen years old girl who was taken away from her family. Tayla was lucky that life gave her the chance to make it back to home. But her luck didn't stay with her for longer. She was kidnapped again. What Tayla will do this time? The finer details mentioned in the story by Sarah made it an intense read. After a long time, I have read a book that is a part of a series but a great standalone too. Taken is the first book in the series and I have more expectations from its sequel REVEALED.
Story is recommended for adult readers. Writing style of Sarah is impeccable. I enjoyed this story overall. It was a mixture of different emotions. I could relate to this story very well. One night I was returning from coaching and I was stalked by one biker. I was scared to death at that time. This book reminded me of that night but I was lucky to reach my home safely.
Sarah's stories feel so real. I could connect well to her writing. Character development is nice and I really loved the ending of the story.

Wow! What a roller coaster!
I started reading this after lunch and finished it that afternoon. It was really gripping and I wanted to know how it all turned out for the young girl who was Taken!
The writing is very good and really puts the images in your head of this bold and dramatic storyline.
I do want to give a warning: There are rape scenes that aren't easy to read but very well written none the less.
I'm looking forward to reading the follow-on to this book soon.
Well done Sarah.

This is a dark and some what disturbing story revolving around young Tayla, a 16 year old, who one night while walking home from a friends house gets kidnapped. She wakes up to found herself in a cage along with many other girls and soon discovers that she is being held by a trafficking gang.
Months later after their daring escape and she sets about rebuilding her life, when she is once again cruelly snatched away from all she holds dear.
A strange and disturbing story with an ending that you really will not see coming and one I’m not sure fits with Tayla’s character. An interesting but sometimes unbelievable plot line, it’s still well worth a read.

Overall - this story had a great plot; something creepy, scary and downright terrifying for anyone to go through. I did feel like some of the important details and scenes could have been explored further, and it worried me how little the events of Tayla’s life scarred her - I began to question how realistic this was. If it was me, I would have certainly reacted much differently!
The story does end without there being any unanswered questions, (something that I was thankful for!) but seeing as this is book one in the series, I'm curious to see how this will be followed on. I found it an educating read, but also something that would worry me if it was based on a real life story. If anyone likes a disturbing read, this is definitely the one for you!
*Pleased be warned, there are scenes of abuse and sexual abuse, so bear this in mind before you read!

From the get-go I was caught hook line and sinker with this book, there just no way I was putting this down until I had found out was happened! This story delves into every parents worst nightmare. What happens if your child goes missing? Will they come back? If they do will they ever be the same?
Although this story is written through the eyes of Talya a 16 year old girl. The reader is pulled into her fears and emotions. We feel her pain, sense of loss and anger at her situation and finally her acceptance.
I received a copy of Taken via Voracious Readers for an unbiased review.

I am still struggling to put into words what I felt after reading this book. The story was really dark and intriguing, so once I started reading I did not want to stop. I found it a bit of a hard time to really understand what Talya was feeling at times, and I will not necessarily "agree" with her (re)actions, but it was still a good read, and makes you think about the repercussions of long time captivity...
