If your scroll through my list with books read, you’ll discover that I already read quite a few Cinderella retellings. For some reason this story is very special to me and no matter how often I read the same thing, I never get enough of it. So, when a friend told me about this book, I just had to read it and after the first free part I just wanted more and more and more.

And the story never disappointed! Of course, the story is in a way a little predictable at times. It’s a retelling and a lot of

City of Wishes is a fun and original take on the Cinderella tale. I really enjoyed reading every episode, especially because of Elle's perservering personality and kind heart. Like other works by Rachel Morgan, this series has an awesome leading lady and an equally amazing boy at her side, the combination of which led to moments of intense fangirling.

My favorite aspect of the series were the Wishes and how they were

I was excited about the blurb, but I'm not as much of a paranormal reader as a fantasy. Any doubts were quickly erased though as I was captivated by the story, and quickly found myself wanting to know more about the characters and their lives!

I really loved Dex and his friends, and enjoy Elle's fascination and reluctance around them. I also enjoyed Elle's relationship with Sienna her step-sister. I really enjoyed the writing and world-building, and am excited to read more, especially after that

City Of Wishes is a Cinderella retelling. When I read the blurb and saw the Cinderella retelling part I had to read it. I love fairytale retellings and this one isn't a disappointment. I loved it and it's very well written.

City of Wishes is a Cinderella retelling, complete with vampires, faeries, and shifters (i.e., people who can turn into dragons, wolves, etc.). While I have read my fair share of this story as told by various authors, Rachel Morgan’s series managed to feel unique.

Elle Winter’s story begins simple enough. She is a slave in her own home and wants nothing more than to gain her freedom. Normally, this is where the Cinderella story would progress; however, there’s a small problem. Elle is also being
Where to start? I loved this book. It was incredible and it took me completely by surprise and is probably my favourite book of 2020 so far and the only book to get 5 stars that hasn't been a reread. So, if you couldn't tell...I adored this book and everything about it!

The premise and the world is so unique and interesting. I loved the concept and I've never read a fairy tale retelling in a world like this before. The world had a lot of scope and I feel like it lived up to that potential for me.

I thought the story line was very innovative. And the world building was good, I definitely got the picture and it was interesting. However the heroine was a bit too heavy handed, too young and strident I suppose, which made parts of the narrative seem forced. I guessed a few things right away, things about which I would have thought she might question. She just lacked subtlety. I’m glad I read it, and it is true that I rarely put down a book or in this case 7(!) if I haven’t finished it. But I’ ...more

Good but...

The ending felt way too sudden. And are we really supposed to believe that the Godmother is just going to leave Elle alone after manipulating her and everyone else all the way for what... a happy ending? Eh. It needed a better wrap up though, although I was glad for the happy ending.

It’s best to buy all the books, each book is a cliffhanger and so, happy I did. This story had the familiarity of Cinderella story, of course, but with a twist of magic. I love the characters and how it keep you guessing. It was adventurous, charming, mysterious, and out right beautiful storyline. Rachel Morgan will not fail you on YA paranormal romance stories!

Fae are usually twisted types that love to play games not usually fun for the live "pieces". All help comes with a cost or penalty for not thinking up a way to get yourself out of trouble to begin with. Readers are bound to pity the maze-runners. Feel-good ending included, eventually.

I love a good Cinderella story and the twists in this book brought it to another level. I finished reading the series in two days because I couldn't put it down, and I could start it again tomorrow!

City of Wishes 1: The Memory Thief
City of Wishes 1: The Memory Thief is an urban fantasy twist on Cinderella and it introduces us to a whole new reality of fae, humans, vampires, and shifters. In this world, however, humans are considered second-class citizens and lots of them are even enslaved to the other races. Our heroine Elle is a slave to her evil fae stepmother and stepsisters. At least in this retelling one of the stepsisters is a decent being and helps make Elle’s existence a little mor

Ms. Morgan released this book in installments – one every few weeks until the entire story was told. I both loved that and found it to be the utmost of torture. Once again this author has given me characters who won over my heart and a storyline that captured my imagination. But, having to wait to read what happens next…well, it didn’t always make me happy because I have definite issues with delaying satisfaction. Lucky for all of you, the story is now complete and you’ll get to enjoy this capti ...more

The City of Wishes series is six episode serialised retelling of Cinderella. Set in a world where Fae are at the top of the food chain and vampires/shifters are in the middle, humans are regarded as lessers and often enslaved by other races. Elle is exceptional in that she is a human with a special ability - an ability that has made her the target of vampires.

Elle lost her father seven years ago and has been bound to her stepmother by a slave charm since. While she despises her stepsister Mered

All six episodes of the "City of Wishes" in one edition? Absolutely yes!!!

I've read and reviewed each episode individually, and I was hooked in the story from the start. There's so much going on in this story, I wouldn't do it justice by reviewing it as a boxed set, so I'm copying here my individual reviews.

I was very excited to start on a new series by Rachel and I loved it. I love the writing style and this book was so much fun to read. I loved the introduction into a new world and its new characters. It was fast paced and very easy to read.
I loved this Cinderella re-telling and all the little parts in the story that made it different and very enjoyable. I’m excited to see what becomes of Elle, Dex and the other guys, I loved all their interactions with each other.

I received a reviewer copy from the author.

I have a complicated relationship with Cinderella stories. I love them, but I don’t really like when they’re too much like Cinderella, or when things happen waaaaaaaaaay too quickly. I’m also not normally a fan of serial books. I just find that they’re too short and there isn’t really enough time to fully set up the world, the characters, the plot, and everything else a book needs to be good. But then City of Wishes came along and proved me wrong about

Awesome retelling of Cinderella

I loved the series! If you lie S.J. west’s Cyn d’Rella series, Meyer’s Cinder and Maas’ Court of Thorns and Roses, you’ll love these books. When a cursed fae prince who likes to help bumps into a human slave girl who can delete memories - a delicious adventure unravels. Along the way the two main characters make unlikely friends amongst the magical clans and, of course, fall in love. Kidnappings, cons, vampires, fae, dragon shifters and amidst it all a human girl w

Imagine your typical Cinderella story except with Fae and Vampires. Ella is a human girl in a world where humans are viewed as lesser beings and normally enslaved. After her father died she is marked with the slave charm by her Fae stepmother. All she wants is for her and her stepsister to finally be free. While trying to obtain said freedom she meets some surprisingly helpful Fae and Vamps along the way. One of those Fae just so happen to be the Fae prince. But when all seems lost she seeks out ...more

Elle is a human living in a world where the only place for her is as a slave. But Elle is no ordinary human-she’s got a gift that sets her apart from everyone else. Her Fae stepmother has no clue what she gets up to and why she does. While out one night she finds that there may be more to her that even she doesn’t know.

This is such a fantastic retelling of an old classic! It has a healthy dose of fantasy and paranormal romance that will please everyone. The MCs have great depth, and are easily l

This book was so freaking good. Like I really can’t begin to tell you how much I loved it. I would have to say it’s by far my favorite Cinderella retelling, it was that enjoyable. I really felt for Elle. She was such a strong and independent person despite all she was forced to endure. And Dex, well you can’t not fall in love with Dex. All the twists and turns in this story had my sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to read more. I never had a clear idea who was the bad guy and by the end, I ...more
