A mentor in the mission recommended this to me and it really resonated with me. I learned a lot about re-writing the stories I created about my life to make them helpful to me instead of painful. Moments where I used to believe I failed I learned how to spin into stories of learning from mistakes. Helped me a lot.

Love this book. Loved 'Visioneering' and this was the perfect next step! Thank you Dennis Deaton for challenging our minds to then challenge our circumstances and always see the sunrising in our own lives!

I practiced my speed reading skills on this book not because I wanted to be through with it, but because I forgot to read it until the day before the discussion with my book club. Even with the speed reading I got a ton out of this book. Almost every page has yellow highlighter on it, marking things I definitely want to remember. Here is an example of something that stuck me as something that should be ingrained in my soul. "Pessimistic people do worse than optimistic people in three ways. First, they get depressed much more often. Second, they achieve less on the job, at school, and on the playing field - much less than their talents would suggest. Third, their physical health is worse than that of optimists. So holding a pessimistic theory of the world may be a mark of sophistication, but it is a costly one."
Ownership Spirit reaffirmed what I have been studying in the 7 Habits books. I am in charge of how things affect me. Even the worst things that can happen to me, I can decide if I am going to be changed for the worse or the better and the more often that I choose either one, the more often that particular path will naturally be chosen.
"Things are never as bad as they seem to be." That is another quote that I liked out of the book. I am going to apply these things along with the Stephen Covey books, and see how my view points change. Ownership Spirit told me that if I do this, the changes in my life will be remarkable. I could handle that.

The truths in this book are absolutely fundamental to living a happy, fulfilling, successful life. This is essentially Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, but much more palatable to a general audience.
This is an empowering affirmation of one of the most important truths we can learn in life: We have the power to choose (second only to the truth that we are children of God with a divine heritage and divine potential).
Everyone who wants to live a life of meaning and greatness should read this book.

Inspirational book on how to "reprogram" your unproductive thought processes from Victim to Owner. Author discusses compelling ideas around neuroplasicity - the brain's ability to rewire itself through repetitive, deliberate positive thought.
I saw Dennis Deaton speak, and was inspired by his presentation. The book offers specific tools, but may oversimplify a person's ability to overcome painful past experiences through "thought therapy" alone.

I LOVED this book. I have tended toward victim-thinking and perhaps pessimism, all in the name of reality, and this book helped to change that vein of thought for me. It aligns with my views about faith and thoughts leading to words leading to actions leading to habits leading to "destiny"....a good read, I'm sure I'll pick it up again!
