Be forewarned, as I am not a literary scholar, just an average jill with an interest in James Dickey's writings.
A must-read for fans of James Dickey, both highly insightful and eloquently written, it gave me a fresh perspective and a new appreciation for his work. Although is well researched and in-depth, the book is also succinct and to the point. It links the works of Dickey together with an effortless flow, and devotes time to analyze Dickey's unpublished writings also. I am easily bored with highly scholarly writings, but Claboughs' was neither dry nor generic. The lively tone is constant throughout the book and I would recommend this as a companion to Dickey's writings.
