Despite it's age, this is an excellent overview of classroom discourse in all of it variations, and the influence talk has, not only in successful schooling, but in successful student identity formation.

I read this book for a class on oral language. It was actually quite interesting. I was even inspired to read through all the reference pages, which I hardly ever do.

This is considered a class in my field and it was a useful read. Even though it's almost 30 years old, there was much in the book that I found to be still relevant. There are also amazingly accurate predictions about the growing rule of computer technology in classroom communication.
