An excellent synthesis of Freudian psychoanalytic theory and Erik Erikson's psychosocial stages of personality development/dynamics. The author is able to relate the outcome of stages, from infancy to old age, to personality traits as well as psychopathology resulting from regression to fixated stages and their associated compromise formations.
The author writes very clearly and provides the reader with an excellent overview of psychoanalytic/psychosocial developmental theory.
